My only concern was that i asked for my hair length to be between my chin & shoulders (so about 1-1.5" off). I had an amazing experience today and can not recommend SARAYA more highly. I went in with my hair 3 colors due to my attempts to home color while growing out my gray. It was a mess. I walked in without an appointment and Sam and Omar immediately talked with me about how to achieve the look I was seeking while I grow out back to my natural color. Don't go here. He rushed my hair cut & left my hair choppy & uneven. He didn't even ask what I wanted & when I asked for layers he said to come back in 2 weeks. One word to describe my first experience at Saraya Salon: disappointing. I had an appointment with Omar, but since I came in earlier Sam took me in for a haircut. He asked what I wanted and showed him a picture of myself with the hairstyle I wanted. He seemed to understand what I am requesting since my hair is not the most compliant one. He spent 20 minutes with me and when I asked him how can I style my hair parted on the side he said, "it's impossible." I literally told him I need some length on the side and showed him my photo for reference. If a haircut cost $45, I would expect some quality and attention to details. Sadly, neither quality not attention to details occurred during my haircut. I left the salon feeling unheard and disappointed. Lastly, I would expect the clippers and items to be cleaned/sanitized in between clients, but Sam did not do so. I would say, if you are to try this place, your money and business will be best suited for another salon/barber shop. I will never come back to this place again. read more

Just down a bit off Michigan Avenue, this salon was easy to find and get to. The Salon has online booking for appointments, which helped a lot because i was in chicago for a business trip. Jad listened to the issues. I've been having my hair and came up with a brand new plan that looked extremely professional. He styled it in a way I've never done before and it looks great. The style really brings out my highlights and low lights and is very flexible so I can do many things with my haircut. The salon was pleasant and there was no pushy upselling. I had an appointment with Sam. I arrived 5 min early. I waited. He had someone else, who I assume is the assistant because they never introduced themselves to me or really spoke to me, wash my hair and start my Brazilian blowout as he was finishing up with another client. After finishing with his client he never came over and this assistant completed my treatment. Nobody spoke to me or explained the process. I had previously scheduled a Brazilian blowout with Sam about 6 months prior and it was cancelled last minute and rescheduled with someone else. First time trying a new salon in a while & never again. I went in for a partial highlight & cut. I initially loved the color, but the more I look at it- I realize it's very ashy almost grey. All I wanted was a touch up of my blonde highlights. Neda also botched the haircut. I asked for face framing layers starting at the chin. She clearly made a mistake chopping one side too much, because I left with one side looking exactly like I wanted & the other side looking like a bad bang. Instead of acknowledging it & fixing it, she curled it so I couldn't see the difference until I got home & brushed through my hair. I immediately went back for it to be fixed & she had her coworker attempt, but it still looks bad & I didn't want any more damage done so I left. I get married in 4 months so really hoping this bad haircut grows out by June :( read more

I had an appointment for an updo because it was close to my venue. The location was easy to find and really nice. I walked in and waited for my appointment. The front desk person asked if I needed anything to drink, which isn't offered anywhere. My appointment was at 4:30 and I was a little early, but that's ok. However, I waited and waited and didn't get in the chair until 4:50! I was a little worried because I wanted to be back to do my makeup in time for the event. I was a bit upset about it, but I didn't really make it known. I wanted to see how they did my hair, and they redeemed themselves quite a bit. Arwa did my updo. I gave her some ideas and she personalized it and made it look even nicer. While she was doing my hair, she was very candid about how some parts of it would look and we fixed it to look more modern than I originally thought. I wanted the front to be a bit poofy, and while this look is really pretty, it didn't fit me, and she showed me. I was absolutely grateful for that because she didn't try to get me in and out, she wanted me to look and feel beautiful! I certainly did after I left. For my first cut, Jad gave me perfect shaggy, textured layers and styled it to perfection.
