Walked In at 720 (they close at 9) and after waiting over 5 minutes someone came to greet us, (after three staff seeing and ignoring) We were asked if we had a reservation, we did not (they had maybe 25% of seats filled) so she went back and talked to a server for a minute. (now standing at the door for over ten minutes) we were told the kitchen was closed for the night, keep in mind an hour and a half before close and had just asked if we had a reservation. Extremely bad service and I'm inclined to believe it was because we were a younger couple. We were excited to see when we arrived this summer in Midland to start the boating season that someone had finally brought a Italian restaurant to Midland. Of course we had to try it, we have been there twice so far and both times something has been strange.. When you first walk in the door, you see a completely different restaurant then the Wimpy's that once was and only lasted a short time. Its very busy, which is nice to see in such a small town that people are supporting a new restaurant and giving them a chance. We both ordered the Veal Parmigiana and a large cesar salad for the table. The salad was actually very small for costing 10 bucks and wasn't amazing either. The veal on the other hand was completely odd, like from space. The breading wasn't like breading, if that makes since.. more like a soggy piece of bread left out in the rain. The meat was good quality however. Most meals come with asparagus and pasta with pesto sauce, which pesto is not for me and its a bit odd from the normal pasta and tomato sauce. We both changed our sauce, mine to tomato and his to alfredo sauce ( the alfredo was an extra charge). What I didn't like was they CHARGE for bread and butter!! We both felt very very sick after our meal and we never thought that it could be the food so we went back for another try and guess what? WE WERE SICK AGAIN! We happened to mention to some locals that we tried Lilly's and before we said anything they said their friends went there and they got sick and they had the veal as well! We even mentioned to the owner the veal was very odd with the breading and her was response was "that's how it is" She must be doing something very wrong with people are getting sick. Had dinner here and it was pretty good. The menu is great looking and it's got a lot of diversity which is nice. The atmosphere is really nice and our bartender server was great. We got two apps and two entrees and that was enough to feed four people! The appetizers were absolutely fantastic, but the entrees lacked some salt and flavor. I got the chorizo truffle pasta and the pasta was wonderful. Cooked perfectly and al dente. Update: the next day. Reheating the pasta was great. The little salt I had added really sunk in and gave it great flavor! read more

We went to Lily's for the first time for my moms 80th birthday. We made reservations and were made to wait anyways. Keep in mind, we were with four elderly people over 80 that were made to stand and wait for our table to be prepared. (Our table had no one at it and it looked ready) I approached the bar tender to ask how long the wait would be, only to be spoken to with attitude in return. Strike one! Secondly I had told that same bartender that if it was a long wait that it wasn't a problem and we could just go home. I was told by him, that if that is what we wanted to do we were more than free to do so! Strike 2! When we got our food a few of the pasta dishes looked half empty! Strike 3! Then when we got the bill we noticed there was a liquor tax charge on it, none of us had any alcohol! We asked for an explanation and we were told that it was an old system that they worked on and it was an incorporated tax! There was no straight explanation as to why we were charged! They also add their own gratuity on the bill and expect an additional one because they don't let you know about it! Strike 4! Will I ever go back to this place?! Absolutely not! Would I recommend it?! Absolutely not! While paying the bill, the waitress purposely put the Interac machine prompted on the tip page encouraging a tip which we obliged. Upon getting home we realized that there was an automatic gratuity on the bill of $52.56, not realizing this we added an additional $52 (15%) thinking this would be the tip. When we realized what happened we went back to get the additional $50 back because as we said, the service and food was definitely not worth $110 tip. When we returned, the owners were extremely rude and proceeded to use profanity to the fullest extent! Acting completely unprofessional and condescending! Ok me and my food junkies have been coming to Lilly restaurant for the last 3 years, we drive 2 hours just for this place and every time has been amazing from the customer service to the food and knowledge of food. This place is located at the bottom of downtown Midland, close to the water. This is my second time going to this place and both times I was pretty impressed! The atmosphere is warm and inviting, it is pretty modern in comparison to Midlands other restaurants. It is also one of their dressier restaurants. With that being said I've definitely gone in wearing a hoody and jeans and was still served wonderfully! The servers are all friendly and welcoming. From what I've been told it's a family owned business and more then likely the owner or manager will come and conversate to make sure you are getting the best out of your experience. The food... the portions are large (even the apps) last night I had a Thai pasta and it was fantastic! The sauce was nice and creamy... again it was a large portion! If you go order their mojito! I came to Midland for business from the U.S.A. I work in Philadelphia and New York City so I know good Italian. While trying to decide between whether or not even wanted Italian or something else. The owner Lilly asked if I could be helped or had any questions. I didn't know she was the owner at first but I can tell you that her knowledge of the menu and description of the food made want Italian. Lilly gave me great recommendations and mentioned that they could customize any of the dishes to my liking. I ended up going with the chorizo sausage fettucini in a very light cream sauce. It was absolutely delicious. I wish it had been a bit spicier but it was still very good. She also recommended a few beers as I told her I was picky. Once again a home run in the selection. The atmosphere was great, the food was delicious, the beer was icy cold, and the conversation at the bar made for a very enjoyable dinner. I will absolutely be coming back and bringing my co-workers along. read more

Dined here with a group of 12. I arranged the dinner with Cory, one of the owners, who recommended wines, and arranged congenial seating for our group. The food was brought out quickly and all of us enjoyed the dishes. This is not top tier Italian, but the prices aren't either and the quality is excellent for Midland. The room is convivial and was bustling on the Saturday night we went. Cory is moving location on the Main Street in 6 months or so. We would (and will) return for another warm night of good Italian food and wine. read more

My husband and I went there after a recommendation from a couple that we got talking to while cleaning our boat up. We have been to Midland over the last month every weekend and just wanted someplace nice to go to dinner. We made a reservation and went for dinner. I wanted to try the gnocchi, but they were out of it. So I had roasted veggie pasta. It was very good. My husband had the striped sea bass and he said it was very good. The food was good, the atmosphere was nice, staff was great. I would go there again, and I still want to try the gnocchi. read more

Went to Lilly's after a lovely day at our friend's cottage. Made reservations for 7:30pm and were seated immediately. Unfortunately that was the best part of the service all night. After we ordered expensive wine and appetizers, our server disappeared. After a while the owner took our table and seemed to be taking over, no explanation or anything but as long as we were being looked after, it was fine. Unfortunately, he ended up being too busy joking around with the bartenders and female servers....until he noticed we were looking around for him or anyone to take our dinner orders. He finally came over and casually took the order. We ordered our meals and after 20 minutes were told one of the meals had sold out......(a small accommodation of a free dessert or drink should have been offered....but nothing was done). It was getting late and slowly the restaurant was emptying and we finally received our meals. The food was alright. Frankly the Caesar salad was the best part of the meal for me. We asked for light dressing and they did deliver a good salad. The other meals had too much sauce, salt, seasoning and tasted similar even though they were different entrees. Was not a total disaster, but may go elsewhere next time we are up north. read more

My wife and I try to go every week. It is quickly becoming our favourite local spot. The decor and atmosphere are fantastic, casual with a touch of class. The food is fresh, and delicious. On busier nights menu substitutions are not recommended, so if you can, go early, or through the week. Great chicken parm with alfredo. Filo wrapped brie will blow your mind. I have to comment on the veal review. The veal on a bun at lunch is fantastic, its no Sergio's, but its close. I have to admit, one lunch I had to send it back because it was under cooked, these things happen, problem was promptly fix with a free app. Oh and lunch is the only time fries are on the menu, and man they are great. read more

I would give the food 5 stars,but due to the lack of appropriate service I have to downgrade them to a 3 star. I don't feel it is the 2 servers that they had as they were very nice and pleasant but is the lack of help that it is an issue. NEVER AGAIN The service and ambiance of this restaurant is strange. We had a reservation & were seated at a table where the setting sun blinded 2 of us & the bartender told us it wouldn't be a problem within 10 minutes. We asked to change tables & were told that they would be busy within 15 minutes with other reservations. There were several other empty tables to choose from and we eventually insisted on moving to another table. They acted like they were doing us a huge favour. Unfortunately, the new table was directly under the speaker which had a radio station playing music which likely suited the wait staff, not the generation of many of the patrons. The music sounded like we should be doing a cardio workout, not what I want while dining with my in-laws. Over the bar was a large screen TV showing the movie Ratatouille. Why? Maybe the bartender doesn't have a TV at home. Are they trying to be a twenty-something bar and not a restaurant? The food was mostly good with the exception of bread, which was an extra charge and although warmed up was stale. They should have said they were out. I was suprised to see such a bad review from the first reviewer. I live near Midland and know many people who live in Midland and Penetang and have heard nothing but good things about Lilly's. I finally had dinner there for the first time this week and I had a great experience. First, it was a Monday night and not very busy when I was there, so not sure if that makes a difference. I shared the filo wrapped brie appetizer (which was FABULOUS), ordered the mushrooms and sun-dried tomatoes pasta, and shared the chocolate bomb dessert. I did find their red sauce a little spicier than expected, but in a good way! Everything was really tasty and I felt the prices (my dinner was $16.99, the appetizer was $11.99 but it was an entire wheel of bri, with probably around 15-20 pieces of garlic crostini) were very reasonable for the portion sizes offered. The portion sizes, however, are very large. If you don't like taking home leftovers, I would skip the appetizer and dessert. I ended up with a full extra meal out of mine. The only slightly negative thing that happened was I ordered a latte and the waitress came back a few minutes minutes later to tell me they didn't have any milk! How do you not have milk? However, I guess they tried to use a bunch of those little creamer cups to get enough for one, but couldn't, so I guess they at least tried! I thought it was a little strange, but not that big of a deal. I ended up just getting a regular expresso instead and it unfortuntely it was almost tepid when it came out. However, one of the other people with me ordered one as well and theirs seemed to be hot, so maybe it was a fluke? My husband and I are from the area and tries this restaurant a few months ago as per a reference from a friend. The food was wonderful, I have to suggest the Filo Wrapped Brie, it was awesome. I had thePasta Carbonara which was a large portion and yummy, my husband had the Chicken Parmigiana and was quite happy and again a great quatity. Upon request they made a Wonderful Chocolate Martini which was not on their menu. We happen to have a night out again without the kiddlets tonight and are going back. read more
