I had seen some favorable reviews on this restaurant, so when I finished my shopping, I went in for a quick lunch. I'm really glad that I did. I ordered a simple lunch of the Newfoundland split pea soup and a bologna sandwich. I really like split pea soup and their version was one of the best that I've had. It was chocked full of seasoning pork, carrots and as a bonus, a big dumpling was located in the middle of the bowl. The bologna sandwich took me back to my childhood days, as not many places these days offer bologna as an option. The bologna itself had a very good flavor and the sandwich was fixed very much like a BLT, with lettuce, tomato and mayo. Based on my experience here, one should at least give this place a try and if I happen to be back in the gander area again, I certainly will be back.

Our son has anaphylactic allergies to dairy and nuts, and Swiss Chalet's excellent allergy program means it's the ONLY restaurant we know about that he can safely eat at in Canada. On our first visit about a month ago, the staff accommodated over our 30 hockey players and parents with less than 2 hours notice, allowing our son to safely eat in a restaurant with his hockey team for the 1st time ever. Our server Heather and manager Don were exceptional and attentive hosts, and our family and team were sincerely grateful. On our 2nd visit yesterday, we were lucky to be served by Heather again, and she remembered our son's allergy AND HIS ORDER from over a month ago! We are so impressed and thankful to these wonderful people for their outstanding professionalism and incredible customer service. The food was, as always, excellent and the service was authentic, genuine, and first rate. We highly recommend the Gander Swiss Chalet/Harvey's; exceptional people should be recognized and celebrated for the value they add to their patrons and their company. Never coming again. The squid rings were extremely salty and way too greasy. I know deep fried squid rings ought to be greasy but this was extreme. Ended up with a family member getting sick and throwing up from the heart burn afterwards. The batter hardly stayed on them. Not to mention them dumping the hot rings straight into the Styrofoam tray which melted onto a couple of the rings. Absolutely dangerous. The poutine had watery gravy with very little flavour, they used store bought fries which some were a bit hard in the middle, maybe udercooked? Not sure what caused them to be like that. They also had no flavour. At least they tried to make up for it with about half a blocks worth of cheese on it. The only decent item was the loaded wedges, which weren't initially given to us. We got takeout and had to turn around and go back for the rest of the meal which they forgot to hand to us. And then treated as if it were somehow our fault by the moody staff.
