The french onion soup was excellent, caught me off guard for a place like this where you wouldn't think they specialize in it...but it was really good. The pan fried cod with pork scrunchions was just as good (I probably could've done without the scrunchions though, but it's fine). My mom said her pesto chicken linguini was to her satisfaction. The striploin...was the most overcooked thing my dad has ever eaten. So he requested to swap to the chicken linguini, which the kitchen did end up doing. Breakfast was good here (especially considered it was included with the stay). No complaints with the food we were served there. Service was a bit unattentive in the sense that the servers refused to refill our water...and when I asked to refill the water, the server only refilled my water and not my parents (whose glasses were also as empty). I will say that despite the shortcomings with service, the food here is really good for a hotel restaurant, and I'd still recommend it to those in the area.

I ordered a simple lunch of the Newfoundland split pea soup and a bologna sandwich. I really like split pea soup and their version was one of the best that I've had. It was chocked full of seasoning pork, carrots and as a bonus, a big dumpling was located in the middle of the bowl. The bologna sandwich took me back to my childhood days, as not many places these days offer bologna as an option. The bologna itself had a very good flavor and the sandwich was fixed very much like a BLT, with lettuce, tomato and mayo. Based on my experience here, one should at least give this place a try and if I happen to be back in the gander area again, I certainly will be back.

On our first visit about a month ago, the staff accommodated over our 30 hockey players and parents with less than 2 hours notice, allowing our son to safely eat in a restaurant with his hockey team for the 1st time ever. Our server Heather and manager Don were exceptional and attentive hosts, and our family and team were sincerely grateful. On our 2nd visit yesterday, we were lucky to be served by Heather again, and she remembered our son's allergy AND HIS ORDER from over a month ago! We are so impressed and thankful to these wonderful people for their outstanding professionalism and incredible customer service. The food was, as always, excellent and the service was authentic, genuine, and first rate. The breakfast and lunch options are prominently displayed on the menu by the counter, but the top item drew both my attention and hunger - the touton breakfast sandwich. Coming with the standard egg, bacon and cheese in a split touton. There's a "mega" version that comes with another touton stacked into/onto the regular version, with an added sausage patty, but I stuck to the base version. We grabbed our coffees (serve yourself from carafes) and sat down to wait for my food. My wife snagged a piece of carrot cake and it was top notch - wonderfully light, fluffy and moist and the delicious cream cheese icing, was, uh, the icing on the cake. Sorry, I had to! But hey, it worked, and they were good enough for my wife to steal a bunch of them! When you walk in there is a door chime that sounds for the staff in the back to know when customers come in. I waited 5 mins and still no one came to the counter. I could see a guy in the back so I know SOMEONE was working there. He did not even look towards the counter during 5 minutes. So I rang the bell on the counter. No response from him at all. I waited another 5 minutes then called out to him a hello. No acknowledgement. So I rang the bell again. Still no response. I don't have time for staff that ignore paying customers, so I turned to leave. Finally after 15 minutes, he WANDERED toward the counter, I told him not to bother and left.
