Dr. Abreu refused to see him unless he signed up for three treatments in a row which was completely cost prohibiting, even though it was proven that just one treatment had beneficial effects for him as he was trying to get through one of the most difficult periods of his life with all time low mental health. We were on the brink of homelessness while this millionaire needed to take multiple thousands of dollars from us before he considered seeing. Not only that, but he was absolutely despicable and rude talking on the phone with him. Dr. Abreu is a money grubbing person of low morals and character and I can say with certainty that he does not give a damn about ketamime and people's mental health. He should be ashamed of himself and I recommend if he cares so little about his customer's wellbeing to perhaps try a different field than mental health care. After making ageist comments about our father (he was a very young and active 80 year-old) and reminding us several times, as an excuse for why they weren't invested in continuing life-lengthening care, that he had been in and out of hospitals over a handful of months, the nephrologists and a cardiologist got together with a representative of the hospital's ethics committee and decided to allow him to die. Indeed, our father had been to hospitals several times. He was on a journey to discover why his legs were swollen. The doctors treated him with kidney-damaging diuretics (Lasix), which acutely (temporarily) damaged our father's kidneys, prednisone (which damaged his skin), and gave him a medication for destroying his immune system, as they incorrectly assumed he had an autoimmune issue without first confirming this diagnosis. Destroying your immune system apparently prevents it from attacking the body in an autoimmune issue, but it allows you to be more predisposed to getting infections or not fighting them. Our father did finally gain an accurate diagnosis: a very manageable form of leukemia that doesn't shorten life, if managed, which, after his correct leukemia diagnosis, he was doing. The side effects from the medications he was incorrectly prescribed during his hospital visits caused additional hospital visits, as the side effects were worse than the leukemia and leukemia treatment (which he was tolerating beautifully). While hospitalized for the side effects from the incorrect medications the hospitals gave him, he obtained infections such as RSV, C Diff, and a bladder infection. Due to my father's physical issues from the side effects of the medications, the doctors at Providence decided to not provide life-saving treatment and instead wanted to give him pain medication to lessen the effects of the death sentence they decided for him; otherwise known as "comfort care." We argued that dialysis could be an option as his biggest issue was fluid accumulation in his body. Providence's nephrologist said no, but when we asked for a second opinion, the second nephrologist said she would give him two weeks on dialysis only. We worried about this as it sounded like they would "pull the plug" after two weeks no matter how our father was doing. The dialysis was very effective. My father began recovering. His blood work revealed steady progress, which we were monitoring. He was chipper and not in any pain but also very worried, like we were, that the hospital would "pull the plug" on him as they had threatened by saying they would only give him two weeks of dialysis. We searched for how we could get him needed continued care after the two weeks and discovered that the state of Oregon shut down all long-term care facilities in the state. It would appear Oregon doesn't value the life of anyone who might need long-term care. The closest long-term care facility was in Seattle, Washington. We were ready to have our father moved to Seattle, Washington, if needed. While at Providence hospital, our father's kidneys showed signs of improvement, as he urinated with the appropriate color. On the last day of his two weeks allotted for dialysis, the hospital gave him a pill form of a medication that helped to stabilize his blood pressure so he could tolerate dialysis, which lowers your blood pressure while being treated, instead of the correct IV form of the same medication. The hospital admitted that the pill wasn't as effective or helpful as the IV version of the same medication, which our father was previously getting. Thus, on the last day of the two weeks of dialysis, his blood pressure dropped too low to safely continue. The nephrologist known as "Dr. K" let us know that she was going to let our father die. She refused to allow our father to again be on the IV medication that had worked for him which would allow him to continue dialysis. We argued with Dr. K on behalf of my father that if his blood pressure improved, would she allow our father to continue dialysis? She said if his blood pressure improved, she would okay it. We asked our father if he had seen a cardiologist while at Providence, and he said he hadn't. We got a cardiologist to review our father's chart, and she confirmed he could indeed continue on the IV form of the medication that effectively stabilized his blood pressure so he could continue dialysis. Even though our father's blood pressure was stabilized by the IV medication that was cleared by the cardiologist, Dr. K, would not allow him to continue the needed dialysis. According to the dialysis technicians, it takes a few weeks up to approximately three months for an acute kidney issue to heal. We were invested in giving our father that time. Providence Hospital was not. Upon learning that Dr. K would not continu

i suggest to avoid east pavilion sca health surgery center, and use instead a more reputable…read morefacility like providence hospital. this center is located inside providence hospital, but not affiliated with providence. this center is not on the epic system, which all of my medical records for 16 years are, at providence health and legacy health. i had to fill out my record, allergies, medicines, surgeries from memory on their form. no one gave me any verbal messages or instructions on the phone, only sending me emails telling me to sign on to their system. my surgeon is amazing, but she prescribed me a drug to which i am allergic. if she had been able to access five years of history with legacy urology and from 2019-2024 and providence from 2024-present, she would have known that and the history of my bladder struggles leading up to this surgery. no one instructed me to take any type of special showering verbally on the phone. i read this in their massive paperwork embedded on page three only saying, "as your doctor instructed" and no directions. my doctor did not instruct me, or if she had, i last saw her 12/18/25, and the surgery was 5/13/26. i am 69 years old, almost 70. for any surgeon notes, i had to also sign into another non-epic system, athena health, which i could not access through my phone. this is the worst part: i live alone, close friends are physically in other states. an acquaintance of mine offered to take me home. she is a business woman and would be in an important zoom meeting from 10-11 am. the center didn't tell me the surgery time till 1:00 the day before. at that time i was told to be there at 6:15 am and would be ready to go by 9:30 am. i told my ride that, and she said if not, she could pick me up at 11:00. i told admitting all this before the surgery. everyone was kind and as they should be up to my waking up from the surgery. then they were horrible. this 25-something year-old nurse texted my acquaintance during her meeting from my phone, and came into my room over five times between 10 and 11 nagging me and also calling my friend during her zoom presentation at work because i wasn't ready to go till 10 am!!!! my friend did call the center back while on her zoom call on her laptop, but no one could speak to her from the center. they even nagged her when she got there to wait at the curb, while she was still in her zoom call transferred to her phone, so it was definitely interrupted. i finally told the nurse to leave my room and not come back. then her supervisor came in and did not apologize for her charge's horrible behavior but insisted it was my fault for not reading that the ride was supposed to come within a half hour of go-time. like that made it okay to harass me and my acquaintance. no one went over after-care instructions with me, or double-checked how i was until it was time to leave. i know my blood pressure sky-rocketed, and i also have heart disease, but they only were concerned about this when they started unhooking the monitors at the last minute when my ride had arrived. now they wanted me to stay another hour, but i knew my blood pressure wouldn't go down till i was out of that emotionally toxic atmosphere. they didn't even know i have four stents in my heart arteries, including in my lad until the nurse went over the health questions before surgery. (i have had heart disease since 2006.) and still, they didn't keep a close eye on my blood pressure they were so concerned with sending me home that they failed to check on how i was. they just had me quickly sign things to get me out. i heard things like "she's the last one here" at 10:35, only an hour or so after i woke up from an invasive bladder surgery! the center instead gave my acquaintance the written aftercare instructions , which she just gave to me in the car to read. and i did have questions about how to help my throat and voice since they intubated me instead of running oxygen through my c-pap non-invasively, like legacy and providence do. scarey experience, but i believe my doctor did a good job on the surgery.

Not silly stuff, but things pertaining to why I am there or other services they may offer. If they take the time to explain things in a manner that I can understand, well done. If they fail to do so, act like I'm an idiot and won't understand, or brush them off I won't go back. Making a point of this as Dr. Bespaly always does a really great job. He gave a very thorough explanation about nerve ablation on my last visit. I have been to his clinic 3 times for ketamine infusions. Anyone curious about this treatment I highly encourage to do some research online first. They do work well for me personally, but there is one caveat... The cost is high and currently no insurance will cover them. Most doctors will repeatedly feed you antidepressants until one works, for some folks they just will not work and have terrible side effects. The worst part is SSRIs take weeks if not months to get results, if they even will work that is. Ketamine there is no waiting, it works by the following day. So... if you compare the quick results of ketamine to the months or years of frustration and lack of quality of life trying different pills, I think it's worth it. The experience itself can be a bit weird or intense. It felt like I was continually falling or sinking (was laying in a recliner), and my mind was swirling with thoughts. The thoughts were mostly what had been bothering me, but in a new positive light so to speak. I found it to be relaxing, but I could imagine it might be a bit frightening to some. I suggest bringing some chill music/headphones and preparing a playlist in advance. You will need a ride home. One infusion will have lasting positive effects for a few months, again this is for me personally. Getting a bit long winded here but wanted to share my own subjective opinion and experience. Kudos to Dr. Bespaly and his team.

The offices in both cities are lovely, the staff immensely helpful and warm, anesthesiologists top of the line, and pre-and-post-op care very thorough. The best part of my experience was being able to trust the skill of Dr. Portuese. He (somehow) transformed my nose into a well-balanced, lovely version of itself. Even though I'm a rather reserved person, I posted my photos on realself.com and hope that will be helpful to someone else who is doing their research into surgeons. I know I spent countless hours looking at photos, figuring out if I could actually go through with changing a facial feature as prominent as the nose. Well, I did it! And here I am just a few months after surgery, and I rarely even think about my nose, it's just that good of a fit! Recovery for me was issue-free (thank goodness!). It was a bit rough to be down and bandaged up for a week, then it was back to the full-time work at the 10 day mark. I'm glad I planned for that amount of time, as it was just about perfect. My in-office computer generated photo is spot-on with my actual result. My life-long wish has turned out so well! TL;DR: Dr. Portuese has a good eye for the art of the surgery, and plenty of experience to figure out how to get the best result. I'm a very happy patient and feel so free!
