Catherine, Sarah and Carter's care, presence and expertise was unlike anything I've ever experienced. I felt heard, my husband and 2.5 year old were included in the process, and we had the softest "landing" into a family of four thanks to their presence, consistent check-ins and sweet at home visits in the newborn days. I had a somewhat scary migraine experience during my pregnancy and Catherine was immediately responsive in helping me get the care I needed, calmed me down over our phone call and ultimately ensured I felt good about what the plan was. I ended up needing a workup at the hospital and the briefing Catherine gave the OB made everything so seamless and gave me confidence that if I needed hospital intervention during the birth, it would be executed with such professionalism and care. I came into their care later in pregnancy (28 weeks) and they were able to easily cultivate trust over our time together so that I was excited to have them by my side to welcome our daughter into the world. My daughter's birth was fast and they took so much time with me postpartum to talk through the experience together, it was so comforting to be able to reflect and process with them. I was blown away with how fluidly they work together as a team and how everyone has equal seating at the table. While we had hoped to have a natural labor and stay in our home with Angela as long as possible before going to the hospital, medical necessity required a hospital induction. It was the last thing we wanted and had my husband and I worried that my labor was no longer in our control. However, because of Angela's tremendous support (and timely massages!), I was able to have a wonderful, pain-med free labor and birth a healthy baby boy despite being induced with Misoprostol, Pitocin, and having the OB breaking my water. I can't imagine such a rewarding experience despite the interventions being possible without Angela and know that hiring her was the best decision we made. We look forward to, hopefully, having her be our midwife for a home birth on baby #2!

She said something like "It's common for doulas to doze. This is what we do." Sleeping with a baby on the couch, wrapped in blankets is one of the most dangerous things you can do with a baby. It is a suffocation hazard and anyone who knows about babies knows this. This doula chose to take a nap while holding my baby even though there was a bassinet and crib within 20 feet. Her denying that this is dangerous and trying to make me feel like I am misled is even more concerning.

How anyone goes through this process without a doula, I have no idea). Upon our first meeting, her enthusiasm, passion and knowledge was evident and we appreciated her confident, straightforward manner. She was proactive about reaching out to check in with us throughout pregnancy and we happily took advantage by asking many questions along the way. When it came to the birth experience, things could not have gone any different than we expected so again we were grateful to have Olivia by our side to thoughtfully explain and compare various options. We ended up needing her earlier than we anticipated and she arrived quickly and immediately went into action. She ensured both myself and my husband felt cared for throughout the entire experience and her kind gestures (taking photos, giving my husband breaks, bringing us food from the cafeteria afterward) were greatly valued. Lastly I found her postpartum visits, which are highly individualized, quite useful in helping me process my birthing experience and simply get an extra nap knowing my son was being well looked after. I was on the WIC program and Olivia was a student at the time and needed to attend so many births in order to graduate. I had heard of doulas before and was a little hesitant because from my understanding they can be very naturopathic and very laid back and while I do like alternative medicine, I do need more structure and that's exactly what Olivia provided. She's very knowledgeable on different drugs and medicines to help during labor but also what kind of essential oils and massage and stretching positions will help too! She was a really great asset to have as a student but I was lucky enough to snag her again recently for the birth of our second son in March 2021 and now that she has 4 years of experience under her belt she's ever better! Giving birth is such an emotional experience and even if this isn't your first rodeo, it's so different every time so having someone like Olivia to explain what nurses are saying and knowing you and your concerns and explaining those to your health care professionals so you can just focus on laboring is beyond helpful. Not only is she helpful in the delivery room her postpartum services are top notch. I swear every time I see Olivia at our postpartum services I just break into tears because she makes me feel so safe and is a person I can lay all my fears and worries on without judgment and she always seems to be able to make it all better. Then, once you're done crying she offers to help during her 3 hour service by watching baby so you can shower or nap. She'll offer to do laundry or dishes even. I always choose the nap, though. Haha. Every year we send her updates of the life she helped me bring into this world and I know Olivia will be apart of our family for the rest of our lives and I can't wait for her to be apart of the next birth. As far as pricing goes, I was a little nervous because this job is so important and the more important the higher the price, right? The first time she was with us it was free because she was a student and I was apart of WIC but omg, her prices are amazing, completely fair and worth every penny. Olivia is just absolutely the best and you will never be disappointed with her level of care.
