(2) I called front desk to cancel the appointment already, somebody took down my name, DOB, appointment time, and who it was with. So next time before you call me and inquire about my "no-show", maybe you want to check with the front desk first to see if they are doing their job? Not going to come back.

It took more than 5 calls back and forth to actually be scheduled for an appointment because the person taking my info was unsure if they accepted Aetna, even though Aetna listed her as a PCP for my particular plan. When they finally confirmed, I was told the next appointment available was in 6 weeks. Although I was already annoyed, because of her reputation, I was willing to deal with it. I received a call this week to say that they would need to reschedule, even though my appointment is just a few days away. When I called to reschedule, the receptionist informed me that Dr. Gounder is no longer taking new patients. I stated that I had made this appointment 6 weeks ago to which she replied, with an attitude. "What do you want me to do about it?" Extremely unpleasant experience from start to finish. And now 6 weeks later, I have to start over to find a new pcp.

First, they only accept cash which should be a red flag from the get go, then they told me that despite my Health Insurance's 35$ copay they would only see me for 75$. I really needed an albuterol inhaler so I said fine and paid. Once I saw the doctor a few things struck me as being very bizarre right out the gate: 1) Dr. Smec tried to up-sell me on some vitamin supplements that would've cost me 95$ or some horses#@t out of pocket. I've never had a doctor in my life try to directly sell me something that they should just be telling you to buy on your own at a pharmacy or health food place. 2) She told me that instead of using the albuterol inhaler I use for the asthma that I've lived with my entire life, that instead I should suck on Himalayan salt crystals. I'm surprised she didn't try to sell me a salt shaker for 60$. 3) She tried to get me to pay out of pocket to go to a facility where she'd "find out the root of my problem". Again, she reiterated that this would not be covered by my insurance and that it would be expensive. 4) She wrote me a prescription for one, one albuterol inhaler with NO refills. One. Upon contacting my pharmacy to try to get another, after finding out I had no refills, the pharmacist and I tried to contact her several times. My pharmacist left several messages and I called twice both times I was asked to leave a message. The doctor never responded to me or my pharmacist. Finally, a week later, my pharmacist got in contact with Dr. Smec and she denied my refill. I have been using albuterol for years. It is not a controlled substance and I don't somehow abuse it. What is a fact is during allergy season I really need an inhaler and have now not had one for almost a week. DR. SMEC IS A SNAKE OIL SALESMAN, A FRAUD, AND A QUACK. It's all about the $$$ to her. She'll try to sell you over priced crap, and tell you to do things like suck on salt. Who knows how many people with different ailments she's told to suck on salt. What a joke. I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau and Office of Professional Medical Conduct. What a sham and a waste of time and money.

When I called other doctors the waiting time was two weeks and they charged twice as much without insurance. My experience at doctor Stec office was very positive. I remember once coming in to see Dr. Hentek with a chest and sinus infection. She saw me, gave me a perscription and left the office. When she came back in the exam room, she noticed I was in pain and couldn't stand. She asked me about it and wrote me a perscription for that as well. . Dr. Hentek saw that I was in pain and treated me for that distress. I'm thankful for her genuine concern. I realized that it didn't occur to me to ask her about anything for my back because I'd been told that the pain would pass by another physician and that I should just take Alieve. I'm a person of color and as such, I've experienced doctors who are hesitant to perscribe pain medication so I subconsiously didn't ask even though I was in the doctor's office. I have changed general physicians though. I had a visit with Dr. Hentek after I'd lost a significant amount of weight 30+ lbs. Dr. Hentek made a comment to me about making an effort to loose more. I shared my regiment and told her about the results I'd had in the previous months and instead of suggesting alternate options she just told me about the negative effects of excess weight and told me to loose more. Of course I have some idea of the negative effects of excess weight otherwise I wouldn't have embarked on the effort I did to loose the weight I had. Physically the doctor is larger than I am so I felt she should be a little more sensitive and construct in offering feedback on weightloss. I was pretty insulted so I'm no longer seeing Dr. Hentek. Women if you're a size 14 or above; you might want to see another doctor.

I never make yelp reviews, and am surprised to find myself leaving this one. I guess it's true, reviewers are only the people who had very good or very bad experiences. Dr. Nachamie is a wonderful doctor who helped me through some rough stuff and I recommend her to anyone without reservation. I was a freaking mess and I don't know if I'd be doing so well if I hadn't met her.

Regardless, I trust the doctor that recommended Dr. Gilbert implicitly so I said that I'd be willing to pay the $300. The woman then told me to call my insurance to make sure that their office accepts my insurance. At that point, I asked her if I should be doing all of her work for her. "Isn't it YOUR job to make sure that you take my insurance?" Only then did she say she would try and call but she's "very busy and do not have all day to spend on the phone with insurance companies." She called back the next day to tell me that she couldn't get in touch with my insurance and that I'd have to do it myself. Unfortunately, her office just called to notify me about a $200 yearly membership fee, that would be due at the time of my first appointment. I've had this appointment for months, but they only gave me 10 days notice about a charge, not covered by insurance, to see a doctor who, despite the positive reviews, I'm not sure I'll like. It's like being surprised with a $200 copay that negates the point of having insurance. So disappointing... I'm sure she's a wonderful physician and me having to cancel my appointment is my loss, but new and current patients should be warned (with more than 10 days) that this office is charging everyone this fee going forward. This office should also not be listed on my insurance as in-network, because this yearly fee betrays the spirit of that.
