As we head into our 5th year, I am confident to say that we made the right decision. Our main priority was that our kids would be able to speak Spanish confidently and build relationships with the Spanish speaking side of their family that lives abroad. Well, we got that and so much more! The teachers at HudsonWay are irreplaceable. Their Spanish teachers are all native speakers from different countries and they each bring a warmth and special touch unique to their cultures. Their English and Math teachers are top notch. Because of the smaller class sizes, the teachers are able to provide a much more individualized approach to teaching and provide each student with what they need. They are also always available and happy to connect with parents. My kids have really enjoyed the engaging activities, projects and presentations which increase in complexity and rigor each grade level. As a parent, I too have enjoyed them, as we are invited in to see presentations and projects multiple times throughout the year. The community is tight knit and the parent board is very active in providing additional activities and experiences for the students and families. HudsonWay is comprised of families from all different backgrounds and walks of life, but at the same time, there is a common thread that runs through the community which is valuing language and learning. This makes HudsonWay a unique and special place; we are a diverse group in so many ways with a common cause bringing us together. Although my kids are in the Spanish program, they have friends in the Mandarin program as well as they are together for English, Art, Music, Phys Ed and more. NEW I have my child…read morecurrently enrolled at Kiddie Academy. This experience is current; it happened just today, August 31, 2023. I haven't had the opportunity to see how the school will handle as the director and assistant director were already gone for the day but I have had the opportunity to see what is considered qualified as it relates to the teaching staff. So basically my little baby was left in a highchair for well over an hour and a half. He wasn't being fed but just locked and trapped inside of it for what could only be assumed was to be kept out of the way so he wouldn't be an inconvenience to the leader of this classroom (Ms. Trinity) that continued to walk passed him cleaning and handling the other babies as if he simply wasn't there. Kiddie Academy does provide video but they do not provide sound to the video so I could see my son crying and wriggling around in discomfort but i couldn't hear if she was saying anything to him. Once I realized how long he had been sitting there and I could see his discomfort I jumped in my car and headed there (I wanted to more so see them organically than call ahead). Just before I arrived Ms. Mary, the teacher my son is drawn to and who I believe was not before in the room (there was someone else in the room, sitting out of view and while I'm not 100% sure I don't think it was her) removed him from the chair and began changing his clothes. When I arrived I was told that he was spitting out his food so it got all over him. Ok...so he was being a baby (not even yet 1) and was left in his wet dirty clothes for what seemed like almost 2 hours to me (I was on my computer and would check in on camera occasionally). When I confronted Ms. Trinity she said when the babies do something like that she usually let's them sit for 5 minutes. 5 WHAT??? He had been sitting there and sitting there and sitting there and NO ONE checked on him or helped him. This does not end here and I hope that Kiddie Academy regains my trust I will additionally say, in roughly the 3 months that my son has been attending this school, that after his adjustment period of getting used to this new situation every time I put him in Ms. Trinity's arms he screams his head off. When I put him in the assistant teachers arms Ms. Mary (the person to me that seems to have a true natural ability with these babies and who should, if anyone be the head teacher) he is completely quiet and at peace (I've even mentioned to Ms. Mary that I noticed that he flocks to her - she remembers I'm sure). When I expressed my concern to Ms. Trinity over the time she left my son in that highchair she simply said, "well I don't keep track". These people log every meal, every diaper change and poop, take pictures from the day and let me know if he napped. I call bullsh*t! To the Director, Ms. Issa and Assistant Director, Ms. Aisha (and the Owner, if you get a moment to read this) I wish you a wonderful labor day weekend and I will be looking forward to speaking with you next Tuesday morning on the above matter and how hopefully you can ensure nothing of its kind ever happens again to my child or to anyone elses. Newark offers the international baccalaureate (IB) degree. It is a mysterious degree that the…read moreschool brags about that they use to claim they are a high level academic achieving degree. There are many problems with the IB program. The easiest problem to demonstrate is that IB classes and exams can only be taken in only in the junior and senior year. There are many amazingly academic students that must wait until junior year to take the IB exam. If you look internet you will see many smart student question this policy. Are all student homogeneous? Do all student suddenly become smart at the same time? The school had tried to get rid of all AP exams but have failed in many areas. The most notable is math. There are many kids taking AP calculus in middle school and quite a few finish both AP calculus exams in middle school. The school could not also get rid of AP history. AP history is done in the sophomore year. After further review the science depart felt that AP Physic C was more rigorous than IB Physic HL. There were problems with the Econ SL class that the econ teacher created a Econ honor class to replace it. Unfortunately all other AP classes have been banished from newark. At one time classes were designated as hybrids AP/IB classes. This allows many of its students to achieve AP national scholar status which requires the a student to pass for AP exams with a score of 4 or above. IB is also very expensive compared to AP for the school. The school tuition is outrageously expensive. IB program is contributing to this outrageous high tuition.

They are full day students…read more Their pre-k program has both a structured component where the students work on themed projects as well as an opportunity for self directed learning where they can choose to spend time in any area of the classroom. There is a large playground where the kids get to run and play in the morning and the afternoon. During inclement weather they play downstairs in a large room - often playing games like freeze tag or duck, duck goose, or using hula hoops. Their teacher emails us a weekly newsletter to let us know what they're working on in the classroom as well as including names of books they will be reading, words to songs they are learning. The environment is very personable. The teachers and the director of the school really take the time to get to know each of their students. I know my children are learning and being very well cared for while at school all day. They have an excellent after care program in which all of the kids who stay go to the large art room. Some of the activities that the kids are involved in are: finger painting, playdo, using the large hollow blocks, book reading and music - we have teachers who play both the piano and guitar. My children are never quite ready to leave school when I come to pick them up.
