The walking trails and loop around the park make for a perfect spot to walk and get some steps in. They have a playground and a lake as well, so it adds a lot of variety. During this particular visit I went for book club. It was such a nice day outside so we decided to have it here. It was perfect to sit in the sunshine and enjoy while discussing our book. There are shaded overwatch towers for parents to watch their kids in any part of the park, there is a splash park and multiple playground areas dependent on your child's size. We stayed for over two hours and the kids did not want to leave. Our kids ages range from 10-4 and everyone had a good time. My mother in law walked the trail several times. The other parents/kids were very friendly too, great park, great atmosphere. The only downside, which isn't even bad, it's expected, is that the bathrooms were not that clean, but it was manageable for what was needed for the kiddos to pee and go back to playing. When I'm St Louis again, we would come back!!

There is a toddler area, area for "big kids" & a "secret garden" though some bushes. While overall well designed... I do not like the many entry/exits & blind spots. The best area to keep track of the big kids maybe on the top of the ramp outside the wall. With mix toddler & "big kid"... follow UnCool Dave rules & tell the "big kids" they must stay on or over the AstroTurf area.

The shade is minimal so the kids do work up some heat - beware there is no water fountain so come prepared or go in to the visitor center, they have a small cafe where you can buy refreshments. There was parking right out front of the visitor center and the park was not not crowded on a Sunday afternoon. My kids still vote Shaw Park as their most favorite place to play.
