I've been a customer for about 20 years. I originally signed on with Excel Communications, and my account was absorbed by Impact Telecom when Excel went out of business. Not sure if Lingo purchased Impact, but my correspondence now comes from Lingo. On the plus side, I'm saving a pretty healthy amount every month compared to what I was paying AT&T for similar service. Here are a few of the annoyances I've experienced, both with Impact and Lingo over the last five years: 1. The modem box that they send has two phone jacks. I only needed one, but I thought it was great to have the second jack as a backup in case something went wrong with the first. Something did indeed go wrong with the first jack a few weeks after they sent the box. I moved the phone line to the second jack and asked Impact to replace the modem. The customer service rep refused to do so and told me to just keep using the second jack. Fortunately, that jack has continued to work properly since 2015, but if it ever fails, then I have no way to receive an incoming landline call. 2. When I was using AT&T as my landline carrier, I could do call forwarding to my cell phone. In practical terms, that meant that if I was unable to catch an incoming call in the first few rings, it would roll over to my cell phone and I could still take a live call. Impact / Lingo does not provide that feature. That's probably a minor issue for most customers, but I always wanted to be available to take calls from family members or business contacts right away. 3. The Impact / Lingo web interface allows me to add phone numbers to a Blocked Caller list. I've been updating my list weekly for the last five years, meaning there should be hundreds of numbers in that list. One day about a week ago, I started getting a barrage of calls from telemarketers and scammers, many of which have called me before. I checked the Lingo web interface, and all of my blocked numbers had disappeared. I asked customer service to restore those numbers, and someone wrote back telling me to check the lights on my modem. I explained that this had nothing to do with my modem and that the problem was that they lost my data. They said they didn't have a backup, so I asked them to simply send a spreadsheet containing my incoming calls for the last 24 months. They sent one month of calls and said older data wasn't available. I replied by sending them a spreadsheet containing older data that it took me about 2 minutes to pull off their website, and asked them to send the remaining data. At that point, they simply stopped responding. read more

They are awful - our fax line hasn't been working in months, and I learned that all the phone lines in our city were decommissioned 6 months ago. No one told us.... I called to get a refund since I have been paying 150.00 a month for nothing. They sent out a technician twice who confirmed the lines were decommissioned. They won't give me a refund and state I have to pay a contract cancellation fee. My contract renewed 3 weeks ago. read more

Avoid this company like it was the black plague! Made multiple calls to cancel service and was told it was cancelled only to receive a collection notice charging an early cancellation fee of $711.60. This company appears to be engaging in fraudulent billing practices. Despite calling multiple times to cancel my subscription, I continue to be charged every month. They switched my plan to a prepaid service without my authorization and have repeatedly increased the fees. Customer service has been extremely unhelpful, and they even claim that my number is not registered in their system--yet the charges continue. All of my attempts to cancel through customer support have failed. I have now had to contact my credit card company to block further charges. Tried calling them to get a bill through my cancel date and was unable to get that and the rep kept telling me that they bill a month behind. But I would not think I should be billed for the entire month and only up to the date when I canceled service. Tried to escalate and not successful and no one calls back although they said someone will call. So now forced to pay the entire amount. This is like a scam. Lingo made unauthorized changes to our account, including canceling active phone numbers without permission. A basic request to forward a phone line took two months, and their cancellation process has been intentionally difficult. We are still waiting on a final invoice. We didn't realize how badly we were being scammed until our new provider started looking into everything. We had phone numbers on our account that belonged to other businesses, and we were supposedly renting phones from Lingo. Now they are claiming we own them. No one at Lingo seems to know what they are doing, and getting anything resolved is nearly impossible. I work with many phone vendors and have never had this many issues. Terrible company to deal with - sales reps are extremely rude. Increased our monthly rate from $175 to over $300 in a 12-month period. Their only notice was fine print on page 2 of our monthly statement - which we have to log into the website and manually open to see. Horrible service They held my phone numbers hostage for 2 weeks, resulting in me losing business since the phone line came up as disconnected. After multiple phone calls lasting hours, the most they could say is "we have already elevated your issue as an emergency, however it will take at least 5 business days to resolve." Then they disconnected my fax line and I had almost 45 missed faxes while the "emergency was being elevated, but would still take 5 business days." There aren't any managers - if you want to speak a manager, they tell you that "they are all in a meeting and will call you when they are done." Never got a call back I still don't know the full effect that their negligence caused my practice. Do not use this company. read more

I was an auto pay good customer for over 5 years but the price continued to soar for a simple fax only line. When I tried to simply cancel the account, they required me to give them a 30 day notice or they were going to charge me a cancellation fee. I gave the notice and then when I called after 30 days I was told that it would take another 10 days and that I was in the middle of a billing cycle so I would have 1 more full bill!! Beware this company. I am the office manager for a provider who has used this company for only one fax line for several years. The provider was on autopay and after losing service for two weeks with no accountability or compensation from the company she decided to cancel the service. After cancelling the service and paying the final bill, we assumed the matter was closed. Then the provider received another bill for $360 for an early termination fee. This information was not given when speaking to the representative that canceled the service. They claim there is a breach of contract and this is due to early termination of the "contract". However, they have given no documentation or evidence of a contract nor is there any documentation under our account on their website. I called regarding issues with call forwarding and a few days later called regarding not receiving inbound calls. The lady that I spoke with was very impatient with her comments like, "I just told you..." When I told her it's great that she understands all of this but I need her to be patient while I ask my questions so I can understand it to, she interrupted me to say she was going to put me on hold and let another technician explain it to me. I hung up after being on hold for 30 minutes with no additional assistance. I will now have to call back and speak to someone else. I wish I could leave negative stars. I have an elderly friend who somehow ended up with Lingo. The service is terrible, you can't leave messages or even check if you have any. He is in bad health and has missed doctors appointments because of the phone service. You can't even get through on the phone to Lingo customer service so have to use email and then they will claim that the problem is fixed....for less than a day and it happens again. I have been using Startec. Now lingo communications for several years. I used to have a regular account but since i do not used it often i changed it to a prepaid account. I have had no issues until now ( except at times a long wait just to put load to my account) Today Oct 2 2023 i called Lingo to put funds since i needed desperately to call home since my family member is terminally ill. The payment department put the funds to a CLOSED account do when i tried using my prepaid account it said I only had 67 cents. I called customer service back to correct it because i needed to call immediately. They told me they cannot do that since they have to write management to make that decision. I was willing to re load again for as long as the funds should be refunded to my credit card since they do not know how long management will respond and if they will refund the funds. I did not want them to credit my prepaid account since i do not know when i will use it again. Still the answer is we have to wait for managements answer. I then requested that he send me a copy of his email to management so I will have a reference to this situation and complain to VISA...he refused but i insisted and so he asked his supervisor.. only then they sent me a copy. The customer service is limited in resolving customer issues even just transferring funds that they already have to the correct account... Very expensive landline service for inferior service. In 2020 I lost my phone service twice, once for a few weeks, and then for all of November and December. They delayed and delayed fixing it, tried to threaten that I'd pay a fee if it was an internal wiring issue, then took almost a month to come fix the problem (it wasn't with my wiring). They never issued a credit for all the time my phone lines were down. Customer service is a joke. I called them tonight to cancel my service and the person who answered put me on hold until their office closed and left me on hold. I didn't realize it until 30 minutes later when I tried calling back just to get "Call back during business hours" If you have any other choice, avoid this company. read more

May 11, 2024: I have thought many times that I should report the fraudulent activities of Lingo, but since they had stopped trying to take money from my bank account (i.e. they stopped trying to evade a block on my account) and since I was very busy, I let it go. Today, this filthy company had the gall to have a letter sent from a collection agency for $79.04!!! If anyone owes someone something, Lingo owes me for its unethical behavior and abuse of my time. I wrote what is below some time ago. Now is the time to let the world know of my experience. Written in summer, 2023: July 8, 2022, Lingo disconnected my landline with absolutely no warning whatsoever. The next month this company charged me $76.18 for service when I was completely disconnected and had no service. I had to dispute this charge with the bank. Lingo was blocked from my account. This company has put me through untold hell trying to find a solution to having no telephone service with no prior notice. Now this company is charging me monthly ($4.05, $5.56, $5.59, starting February 2023) for a line which I never authorized them to install, and which provides no service whatsoever. Lingo changed its merchant ID number in order to get into my bank account again (the bank told me this) and it keeps changing the monthly amount by cents in order to evade a block on a specific monthly amount (the bank told me this too). I am disputing these charges with the bank. The bank told me that, if Lingo continues to try to charge my account, the bank will report Lingo for fraudulent activity. When I have communicated with Lingo, I have been told not to cancel with them until my phone number is ported to another carrier (a complex issue which I was never able to figure out). But I have had no service with them since July 8, 2022. They continue to charge me for NO SERVICE WHATSOEVER AND A LINE WHICH I NEVER AUTHORIZED THEM TO INSTALL. Now my bank has blocked them again. Perhaps they will change their merchant ID number yet another time in order to get into my bank account. Lingo has caused me to waste untold amounts of my time and it has scammed me. This is a criminally reckless company that mishandles their business customers livelihood. On September 6th, 2022 a Lingo Technician was scheduled to disconnect our fax line 816-579-5527. Instead, the Lingo Technician disconnected the Business Phone line that has been in service for over 50 years. We have been battling Lingo to get the phone service restored for over a month. We have talked to dozens of customer service reps & sales reps on 37 separate occasions, all reps promise a return call to resolve the issue. They will not provide a reference number, time frame for restoration or contact information to assure the matter will be addressed. Multiple Lingo Representatives have admitted that this was their mistake yet refuse to resolve the issue. This is an established Business phone number for a rural area business. If I could give this company a negative number review, I'd do so. Residential phone service is beyond terrible and customer service is a joke. I've dealt with them on my elderly mom's behalf for several years (couldn't get her to change companies). There have been multiple outages lasting weeks or more than a month, sometimes with us calling to report the outages daily. Once, they had made a repair, I was calling daily, asking to be transferred to a supervisor or manager, which they can't do so the supervisor has to return the call. My job doesn't always allow me to step out to take a call at any time, so I missed many of those calls only to have to leave a message. After a month of these calls, when I finally got someone who knew what was happening all that needed done was a switch flipped. Most recently, there was another outage of more than a month. Once again, with frequent reports. Now we have a arranged service with another company and they're saying that she's subject to an early contact termination fee??? We can call back once she gets the final bill and ask that it be forgiven. They were very lenient about her tendency to miss payments. That's the best thing I can say about them. read more

Update. After filing a formal complaint with FCC, Lingo reached out to me and rectified the situation and refunded the excess charges. Although the dispute has been resolved to my satisfaction, the very fact that I had to escalate it with the government regulatory authority is a bad sign. Kudos to FCC for having the system in place that protects individual customers from companies like this. If you are being a victim of such practices, keep in mind that you have your rights. Go to www.fcc.gov and file a consumer complaint. The system works. read more

So disgusted.. Friday evening my business phone line went out which I called Lingo and had a repair ticket created. I requested call forwarding be added to the line immediately. As of Saturday calls are NOT forwarded & No call back from anyone. I called Lingo and was told it was assigned to a tech. I asked her to please message tech to get call forwarding working ASAP since I work in telecommunications I know how this works. Lingo is a reseller of AT&T, Lingo puts ticket into AT&T, Lingo can call AT&T they have a certain department they can call regarding the repair ticket to have call forwarding worked in, it takes less than 15 minutes to have call forwarding to be programmed. 2 hours later call forwarding still not working and now Lingo is no longer answering their customer service number. My business landline being down is affecting my business and costing me money. Today now Sunday going on day 3, NO DIAL TONE, NO CALL FORWARDING, WHICH MEANS MY CREDIT CARD MACHINE DOESN'T WORK, MY CUSTOMERS CAN'T CALL IN TO GO ORDERS, & SINCE MY PHONE IS A RING NO ANSWER MY CUSTOMERS ASSUME I AM CLOSED. Horrible customer service!! I have 1 office with one phone line and one fax. Nothing else. I work by myself with no employees. When customers would call into my phone they could not hear the greeting or leave a message. "Please enter the number you are trying to call" was all customers could hear. I went back and forth for 2 weeks, loosing new business, and was constantly told they could not find a problem and were unable to repair the problem. They showed absolutely NO concern for the issue. I was a longtime customer and I have been using your landline telephone service since it was Primus. However, since Lingo took over, I started to have many problems. Including, not able to get connected to my mother's phone# in Japan. Most recently, on January 2nd, my conversation was abruptly cut-off after 3 minutes of talking with my mother in Japan. Worst of all, my mother's voice was recorded and played to me repeatedly and made me think she was repeating herself. It was bad enough that while I was figuring out what was going on, my mother was very worried and tried to call me back but she was not able to. I called Lingo customer service on January 3rd, 2021. Lingo's customer's service was busy and the recording told me the wait time was 6 minutes. However, I was kept on-hold for 25 minutes and worse Lingo's customer's service hang-up on me. I sent the message via Lingo's online account, but no response as of January 26, 2021. I called today (1/26/21) and got a hold of a live staff and explained everything all over again. She said it will take a while to cancel the service. I'm sad to know a service company which is so bad at serving clients but the same company is so confident that it bills such overpriced charges, and automatically charges clients' credit cards every month. read more
