This edgy boutique in Chelsea will soon become a favorite with urban, handmade, and eco-friendly clothes - you'll definitely keep coming back to check out the large selection of "wearable art." Such interesting pieces can be found as an origami-structured suits or basic knitwear with unexpected details. Lingo has pieces that allow anyone to show a little personality edge without standing too far out in the crowd. With brands such as Prairie Underground (great organic sweat shirts), Butter dresses, Nature vs. Nurture, Kelly Lane, and Filly, you are sure to find something quirky and unique. The owner Shin Yee Man knows how to choose clothes that are accessible enough for everyone, but have a one-of-a-kind, handmade quality that makes them more personal. A favorite is Cinderloop's grey draped tunic with uncommon red string that tucks and pulls to create a unique shape ($148). Most dresses range from $100-$180 and tops from $30-$100. Some collections are by local designers and organic and handmade pieces can easily be found. The accessories are just as unique as the clothes, with purses, belts, hats, wallets, clutches, earrings, rings, bracelets, and necklaces found throughout the store. Eccentric bright jewelry are made of beads, feathers, string, precious stones, and silver and range from $20-$150, with the most unique rings made from Horn and Seed Pod for $20-$90. I stumbled across this boutique while wandering Chelsea and immediately fell in love with its collection. The owner has a great eye for pieces that occupy that rare overlap between sophisticated, edgy, and wearable. I picked up a blazer that I could pretty much wear with anything, anywhere, and always receives compliments. Shin is also friendly and charming, engaging without being pushy, informative and helpful, the kind of owner who inspires loyalty. This will be my go to spot for unique pieces. read more

As a reticent shopper, I love Lingo's: - Interesting and pretty clothes - Reasonable prices - Honest, interested but not-pushy owner - (local to me) I have purchased so far a dress and some hand-crafted baby wear for a friend, and regularly contemplate their business-cool after-work selection. This store was just a quick walk by---but an absolute HIDDEN GEM! I've been shopping there for at least 3 years and the owner of the store is absolutely wonderful. She remembers me every single time I go in (albeit because I left a gigantic Sept issue Vogue in the dressing room once by accident) but I never leave empty handed. I've gotten mostly tshirts but also have spent on jewelry and baby clothes. They are all very unique and the owner also designs her own stuff. Definitely worth a look if you're into unique stuff. I would say that this place is definitely better than Edge NY or the young designer's market in terms of great quality for the prices. And she has a great eye for what looks good on a customer's bod/coloring. And there's no BS. She's gonna show you exactly where the mark down stuff it....With Pepper wandering around and those wooden floors and chill music, i felt like i was (dare i say it?) in BROOKLYN. ah! and it was divine. Girl, i got three structured yet casual, summer into fall, small designer dresses for $300. Go. Now. Buy your late summer/transition/fall stuff there now. Keep her in the 'hood. we need this kind of store in Manhattan! .... This is a well-curated shop with unique, flattering, and eco and labor-friendly clothing. I bought an assymetric Porto "Istanbul" skirt, and I can wear it forwards, backwards, and sideways. It is edgy yet elegant. What made my stay memorable was the owner, as she's familiar with all the designs, how fabric is cut, etc. She has a cute dog too. Arrived at the store well before it opened not knowing it didn't open until 1. Owner was fantastic. I am from out of town and it was the only chance to go during a conference break. Owner immediately understood, let us in, let my husband take a nap in the chair and immediately helped me find a ton of things that would look good on my shape. It was a wonderful experience. I have been buying clothes at Lingo for many years and always come back because the choices the store has combined with the expertise of the owner in advising you what will work best for your body type and taste are truly unique. I am a physician and professional woman going to many conferences and need clothes that can be all at the same time - professionally looking, elegant, as well as casual, comfortable, and yet easy to take care of. The choices are also great for women in all age ranges. I feel great wearing clothes from Lingo and always get many compliments. On top, all the clothes I have bought from Lingo were such good quality that they lasted for a long time. If you look for unique and exceptional merchandise with outstanding customer care, look no further.
