Seek care elsewhere. Office staff is incredibly dismissive and rude, and are condescending with questions about billing or clarity on statements. Appointment availability was months out, regardless of severity of pain, recent hospitalization or symptoms. DeGuzman spent a total of 10 minutes with me on the phone, and then post-procedure, my results were given to me by the front desk person who didn't address the reason for my procedure or understand the context. My issue was unresolved and I have taken my case to another local doctor with a great staff and timely follow up with the actual doctor, vs the office manager. My Doctor Donald Moy referred me to Dr.Deguzman and i've had nothing but troubles with trying to get an appointment. Ima young guy and Dr.Deguzman and his team doesn't respect the jewish community. They keep pushing my appointments out. When i try to call or get a hold of someone they never answer me. When i finally get ahold of someone they give me attitude after me asking them very kindly why i haven't been able to get ahold of anyone. I can't speak to the Doctor's quality but I am unhappy with the responsiveness of the office staff. I called the office on a Tuesday morning and was put on hold for 8 minutes. I called again and was connected to a voicemail system which promised a callback within 24 hours. As I did not hear back on Wednesday morning, I left another message on the voicemail system. I finally received a callback at 6pm on Thursday evening. I am sure the office is quite busy but I am not interested in chasing a doctor for a routine colonoscopy which would cost me $600 out of pocket and cost my insurance company thousands of dollars. If there's anything I've learned from dealing with doctors in the Newport Beach area it is to avoid doctors that don't have office staff answering the phone. If you call a doctor during business hours and you're shifted to a voicemail system, find another doctor. read more

Don't plan on ever actually talking to Dr DeGuznan. The first office visit is with his PA and reams of fine print that is very patient unfriendly. You need to get your own insurance estimate. On procedure day, I talked to the doctor for 20 seconds. He discussed the results with the person who was my ride! Would you agree to use a doctor if he explicitly told you up front, first thing that you would never actually talk or meet with him? My results were ok but I have questions about diverticula and received no guidance on how to arrange my follow up. read more

Dr. DeGuzman has to be the worst Doctor I've seen at Hoag! Both of my appointments I was seen late. After my colonoscopy he came into talk to me, while I was still under sedation and gave my info to my husband, which isn't even on the form!! My 2nd apt for an endoscopy, after being 1-1/2 hours late, I was brought into the procedure room and he was working on another persons chart on his computer right in front of me!!!! After the 10 days, I called to get my results, o hold for almost 20 minutes, then was told the Dr. would have to call me back. The next day I called again, no Dr. The 3rd day, I called and was told he would call me back. That late afternoon he called me back and told me it was fine. On my appt with my Regular Dr. she told me 3 issues that needed attention and I would need a follow up endoscopy. I will not be going back to him! read more

I've had a long battle with biliary dyskinesia, and have spent the last 8/9 months in pain, unable to continue my career from it. I was told on what will be my last visit "can you live with this pain? Because we've tried every test and not sure we can help you." So I'll be seeking a specialist to help with my quality of life, as a 27 year old. It was incredibly unprofessional, as well as downright rude to insinuate a patients pain isn't valid just because you as a medical professional can't help. Stay away from this practice if you fear your illness is large, as if it doesn't fit a cookie cutter expectation of care, Dr. Deguzman isn't qualified to treat you. Go hear if you have heart burn, he can help with that. read more
