The Dr introduced himself but I was silently crying I didn't really acknowledge him and I now feel bad because he was very kind- so I'm sorry Dr. Bemanian!!! Let me start by saying that this is my first negative review on here. My nurse friends said that I need to post something about my experience. I had an endoscopy/colonoscopy a little over a month ago. Never met Dr Bemanian before that day, only a PA. First of all the procedure seemed rushed. I was in and out of there within 90 minutes. Leaving I felt okay, still a little loopy from the anesthesia. But when I woke up the next day I knew something was really wrong. I took the dog out in the morning for a walk and completely passed out. Luckily a neighbor was there to run and get help from his wife which is a nurse. After I was able to get back home, I passed out again for a 2nd time. That is when [[HIGHLIGHT]]I called the doctors office and told them what was going on. I only got a receptionist to call me back with a relayed message from a nurse saying," if I pass out again... go to the ER. I was probably dehydrated."[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It turned out that I was not dehydrated, I was bleeding out. I was passing a lot of black blood for several days. Finally went to urgent care with my regular medical group. They told me I was anemic now after losing so much blood. My hemoglobin dropped way down. The blood was coming from a biopsy of the upper GI since it was black. I was having shortness of breath, dizziness, weakness and constantly tired. I had a trip to Europe planned a couple of weeks after the procedure, which got ruined. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I called the office several times that week following the procedure, but no call back from the doctor or any doctor.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]And after 5 weeks, I still have not received any call about any of the results.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I truly regret having this procedure done with this group. I am far from being the same, my quality of life right now is poor. And I wonder if I will ever feel the same again. read more

I went to Dr Bemanian for 4 years for IBS-C. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Every time I went there, he took notes and acted like he cared what I was going through but really didn't.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] All he would tell me is "I can give you a refill for Linzess, but IBS is a lifelong disease for which there is no cure". I dealt with IBS the best I could and saw Dr. Bemanian occasionally when things got bad. However, he just repeated the same above line. After four years, he decided he wanted me to take several expensive tests to confirm I had IBS. I argued he should already know that and cut off my services with him. Years later, I found out I had an ongoing hernia I knew nothing about. Dr Bemanian also said nothing about it. When I had an operation to address the hernia, I soon returned to normal digestion with no further IBS. I wished Dr. Bemanian had the interest and passion to find out the root cause for my IBS. However like many doctors in Irvine CA, Dr Bemanian is only interested in billable hours, not curing you. read more

I don't recommend this doctor . He gave me a wrong antibiotic which created the ongoing issues with my stomach that I never had before I go to this doctor , he sent me to a outside lab for some tests and since their machine was not sterilized the test results come out incorrect , after two days that I took the antibiotics I had so much pain in my stomach that I had to go to emergency room and they sent me for the endoscopy and another gynecologist doctor lee told me that all these pain can be the result of taking too strong antibiotic that was not needed , new doctor sent me to lab to repeat the test and everything came out good and they found out that previous test results were incorrect and I didn't need to take those antibiotics at all and his diagnosis and his lab were both wrong [[HIGHLIGHT]]I called the dr Bemanian office then and he said that he is sorry that these things happened to me[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], this issue that doctor Bemanian created caused me not to be able to eat for a long time because of the pain and I lost weight drastically and all these caused more completion and still after few months I still am involved with this issue and my stomach became so sensitive that with any little stress the pains come back , I regret that I didn't do my homework and didn't research enough about this doctor before going to him , but if you are the one who loves to take lots of medication this doctor is definitely a perfect fit for you read more

Stay away from this Doctor's office - they are bad and no caring or follow up. It is very bad place and bad uncaring doctors and not friendly environment . They only want your money. In particular I would not recommend Yu and Bemanian to anyone ( Bemanian has chosen the wrong field - he is sorry excuse for a Doctor). I met both and both are bad , money hungry and do not care. Both are sorry excuse to be doctors. They are very arrogant, money hungry and always busy and seems to rush through appointments without really listening to concerns. Yu's diagnosis and treatment was bad and after the consultation, there's no follow-up or any real care shown. It honestly feels like he's just trying to get through as many patients as possible without giving them the attention they deserves o he can collect. I've seen many doctors, and Dr. Yu is by far the worst. If you want a good doctor who actually listens and cares about your well-being, look elsewhere. read more

I have had two colonoscopies with Dr. Bemanian, and it is that time again. I looked him up and was curious what others were saying. Boy it is either all on or all off but obviously heavily tilted towards the all in. I could not disagree more with the hands off comments -- that is not my experience. He was very hands on and empathic. He is exactly what I want in my doctor. First and foremost he is a pro and found my issue (polyps) both time. He explained at pre-op exactly the process. He did a great job interacting the morning of the procedure both times. His team was great. The follow up was helpful. My rating is a strong 5 stars. read more

You know I attended Bemanian's office for a while but on and off because I felt that the man could just not get to the bottom of my symptoms. He also kept giving me some pretty nasty prescriptions that threw my digestive system out of whack.. I really wish he'd spent more time with me and took the time to really get to know me as a patient and realize he's giving me toxic stuff. I did my own research and realized the medications he gave me weren't going to cure me all they did was keep me coming back to his office. See I took a PPI and Sulcrafate extensively under Bemanian. My MD told me I needed a colonoscopy due to my age. I met with Dr. Bemaniam. He was professional and I knew he was a specialist at what he did. Easy to talk to, and it went so well. He made sure I did not vomit afterwards, and I was comfortable when I woke up. Yeah! I was ecstatic when he called me to see how I was feeling. I find that rare with doctors. I need to see him again due to a car accident where my stomach was hit hard. I'm looking forward to getting things taken care of with such a fine doctor. read more

I went to Doctor Bemanian at the recommendation of my GP. The office is relatively well run and the staff was nice. Doctor Bemanian himself was pleasant and professional. The reason I'm giving 2 stars is a complete lack of follow up from his team. After an initial consultation, his initial step was some pretty invasive testing which ended up not providing any insight on my symptoms. The follow up appointment was with a doctor-in-training (not sure what their official title was). Unfortunately, she was unprepared for the appointment as she used her phone to lookup medications as well as the technical meaning of the notes Dr Bemanian had left in my chart. I don't expect doctors-in-training to have everything memorized and I also understand that they need to gain experience. However, the lack of preparation and lack of oversight made me feel like I wasn't getting Dr Bemanian's full attention. Dr Bemanian and his team then requested routine blood work and other testing which indicated a simple infection and they prescribed medicine. After that, there was zero contact. No follow up phone call to find out of the symptoms have cleared up, no follow up testing to confirm that the infection was gone. Nothing. And unfortunately my symptoms have not cleared up. The complete lack of follow up makes me feel like I was not an important or valued patient. Due to health insurance changes (and the above), I have decided to try another doctor. read more

He even took time out and called me himself to give me my test results (all good things!), and that made me feel like my health is truly important to him. The entire staff treated me so well, and were very responsive and sensitive to my inquiries. My husband started going to Dr. Bemanian over a year ago to treat his UC flare up. For over a year, Dr. Bemanian failed to recommend proper testings and procedures related to my husband's condition. Instead he kept prescribing different medications and increasing the doses of those without any sign of improvement. His lack of understanding about my husband's unique case and risk factors, lack of proactiveness and simply lack of care resulted in my husband's flare up to last until this day. So we decided to visit another doctor for a second opinion and soon realized our mistake of staying with Dr. Bemanian for all this time. I've never met this doctor. However we interacted with 2 sets of staff before we told to leave. Dr. Bemanian saw my 88 year-old mother in Hoag Hospital and based on that interaction, we booked an appointment which was 1 1/2 month after her procedure. We were concerned about this long timeline, but Hoag assured us he was the best. Not living in the area and by the time I parked in a non-handicapped spot, got my Mom and wheelchair in the outer office, signed in and then went into this doctor's actual office, we were 15 minutes late. There wasn't anyone in the waiting room, but were told to reschedule because we were 15 minutes late. After waiting 1 1/2 months for the appointment, it was very disappointing to be told to go away because we were 15 minutes late. read more

This medical organization, Digestive Disease Consultants of Orange County, is terrible and I give that organization a grade of F. I had a procedure scheduled with Shahrooz Bemanian, M.D. I met him prior to the procedure and was impressed with his professionalism and credentials. He is not the only gastroenterologist in the City of Irvine or within neighboring cities. As a consumer of health services I have choices and this physician is not the only one. There are literally scores of gastroenterologists everywhere. My personal physician, Charles W. Jackson, M.D., referred me to Dr. Bemanian and by the way I just need to say that my personal physician, Dr. Jackson, is FANTASTIC. He is very through and conscientious. Before meeting Shahrooz Bemanian, M.D. I completed the required paperwork with great accuracy. I am all about being accurate especially as a trained mathematician with a doctorate and multiple publications, I personally know all about exact directions required to do a task or to do something. I followed Dr. Bemanian's directions very precisely and I did not deviate in any way. I am still so upset at that medical company every time I think about what happened... I scheduled the procedure and Dr. Bemanian wrote a prescription for me to consume and digest as preparation for scheduled time of the procedure. Well, the prescription did not work so I was okay with that and I gave Dr. Bemanian an opportunity to perform the procedure at second time. Everyone deserves second chances. Here is what I do not get... This guy has the degree of Doctor of Medicine and he writes the same exact prescription which did not work last time. In my mind I am just wondering "why?" If the previous prescription did not work last time then why use the same prescription. Logic dictates that if something does not work then perhaps a different approach might be a good course of action. However, I figure, oh well ... He knows what he is doing and after all he has the acronym M.D. after his name. Sure enough, I followed the instructions with incredible mathematical precision and not only did I do that, I also went on a liquid diet for four days to ensure that I would be internally clear for Dr. Bemanian to examine the intestine with the scope. The results, as anyone with any common sense would expect were identical--that is--inconclusive. Then Dr. Bemanian has the gumption to tell me that we need to schedule a third trial with his associate who, in my opinion based on the experience I already had, is probably another incompetent gastroenterologist... When that suggestion was made I looked at him right in the eye and I told him politely: "I am done with this... I will just need to go somewhere else or not have this procedure done at all. If I select to do it again then I will have it performed by another gastroenterologist who uses logical problem solving skills. The office staff was not that great either... But, I must say they were incredibly nice to have provided the medication for free because my insurance did not cover the prescription (it was not expensive). However, my disdain for the office staff is rooted on the fact that I had to inform them no less than 17 times that I do not wish to be reminded of my upcoming procedure via text messages and that I prefer phone call reminders. Well, you will not believe this... They never once honored my request. I was very clear and they indicated that they understood my request which I clearly communicated slowly and in English. Again, my experience was absolutely terrible and traumatic and I am still quite upset. The funny thing is that that company never called me back to asked me how I was feeling but they did call to set up a third appointment. I think they are interested in billing insurance companies for their services but I did not see any evidence about what medicine should be about, that is, the well being of those who trust them to take a person's health seriously. So this is my review and I will tell everyone I know that if they select this company that they should look for other choices and other gastroenterologists. read more

I am a newer patient to Dr. Bemanian for Lynch Syndrome. I've unfortunately had to have colonoscopies every year for the last decade and will every year for the rest of my life so needless to say, I'm familiar with Gastro Docs and the procedures. Dr. Bemanian is BY FAR the best doctor I've had. His office was clean, his staff friendly and professional. He is incredibly personable and professional and I can't remember the last time I felt so comfortable with a physician. His staff booked me in only one week for my yearly screening. I didn't have to do a single thing. The prep medication he prescribed me was by far the easiest prep I've ever done(and we know that's often the worst part). The Newport Beach Endoscopy Center was also the most professional and comfortable experience I've ever had. The wonderful woman at the front desk worked out an insurance issue so I didn't have to. I waited only 5 minutes in the waiting room to be taken back for both of my procedures. The nurse that helped me before going into the operating room was the absolute sweetest and helpful nurse I've ever had. Ever. The Anesthesiologist was thorough and assured me that I'd be comfortable throughout. Once I was rolled into the procedure room, Dr. Bemanian welcomed me and made sure I understood what we would be doing and made sure to answer any of my questions. He even chose to do some biopsies in both procedures to make sure that everything was covered. The staff within the procedure room ran like a well oiled machine. And for once, I didn't feel embarrassed about having a colonoscopy where total strangers see parts of my body so intimately. Once out, the nurse made sure I was safe to leave. The Dr. came out and provided me with all my paperwork/photos and told me they would call as soon as my results came back. The Endoscopy Center also called the following day to check on me and see if I needed anything. After all of this, I am 100% confident in Dr. Bemanian and his staff/care. I have selected Dr. Bemanian based on the great reviews he has here on Yelp, and he did not let me down. Although I spent most of my time sedated, he was kind, gentle and friendly/professional during the short period I was alert/awake. My daughter who was there to help out (so ended up spending more time with him) also liked the doctor. Prior to that I had so much pain in booking my procedure with another doctor that was originally referred to me by my physician (called them more than 10 times, talked to people, left messages, the lady who was supposed to book never called back..), Dr. B's office was a complete breeze, so much easier to deal with, what a difference. The lady (Michelle) who booked me was through, prompt, responsive, so easy to get help from, and before I knew (literally and figuratively..lol) the medication was ready at my pharmacy. I had a procedure done with Dr Bemanian last year, which was coded incorrectly for a 33 year old and led to us having to pay almost more out of pocket than insurance paid; and we have great PPO insurance! Set up a payment plan for our astronomical portion and paid monthly, after having already paid FOUR separate bills for this procedure. I knew we would get one for the anesthesiologist, but I wasn't expecting a bill from the doctor, another from his separate office and 2 separate bills from third-party pathology offices. (Again, I am 33...pathology...is that necessary? I think not.) We also paid $250 day-of, which I assumed was my copay, done deal. Anyway, after 6 months of paying monthly we got a collections letter. They sent us to collections on a debt that was being paid! I literally paid the week before we got the letter! Guess they needed money really quickly to pay for their new office and rude front office staff. RUN from this office. Reschedule current procedures with an ethical, honest surgical center and doctor. read more

Very clean office on Beach Blvd. Very efficient paperwork and pre-procedure process. Dr. Bemanian answered all my questions clearly. I never felt that anyone including staff were in a hurry to get me out of there. It's not that I need to be somewhere a long time, but I do require my concerns to be addressed. Procedure day...went to Pacific Surgery Center on Newport Blvd. Again efficient check in. Very capable staff. Dr Bemanian came by to check on me and then we did the deal.
