This supermarket may not be the best, but the only fish market that I know of in the area that sells a variety of Wild Caught fish and tells you where the exact source is from. Not many markets do this or in comparison to multiple markets I've gone to in the Bay Area. Additionally, they also clean and fry your fish for you! Just get a ticket and wait for like less than 15 mins (depending on if there's a long line of customers). This location is pretty decent or a hit-or-miss. May not have everything you're looking for, but for me their fish selection is a must. They also have a decent selection of staple vegetables and fruits like bok choy, bananas and yams. I'm taking one star off for the mislabeling or maybe I did buy the wrong fish (when I took the fish home, I saw a different name marked on the sticker). This isolated incident isn't going to keep me from coming back. And when I do, I'm always headed straight to the fish aisle. The minute I walked into this grocery store for the first time, I turned to my daughter and said it felt like we had stepped into the movie The Backrooms. Most of the interior signage had been removed, leaving behind the outlines and remnants of the old lettering which gave the store an abandoned feel. There was also a very strong odor. I've visited plenty of Asian markets before so I'm familiar with the typical smells but this was noticeably stronger. If I could give zero stars, I would. I've been shopping at this supermarket for over 10 years because it's close to my apartment. Unfortunately, I've noticed a consistent decline in customer service. Many of the cashiers are rude, unprofessional, and spend time gossiping--often in Vietnamese, which I understand. This used to be my go-to spot for quick groceries, but not anymore. I'd rather shop at a store that values professionalism and treats customers with respect. It's disappointing to see long-term employees behaving this way, as it reflects poorly on the entire business. It depends on what you come to this Chinese grocery store to buy. Cantonese-Chinese songs are usually playing in the background. Don't expect excellent customer service here. They do the minimal to keep the place operating. Inflation prices have impacted most grocery stores. This location has gone from a 4-5 to a 3-4 rating these days. It's not as exciting to visit anymore. They used to be fully stocked with grocery items, especially in the meats/freezers areas until their refrigerators broke down few years ago during pandemic, causing lesser customers to revisit. Only entrance doors on left side is open. They still have good deals if you compare them to 99 Ranch stores or Marina grocery store though. It's less expensive and more affordable at Lion's Supermarket. Fresh clams $11.10 for roughly 1.7 lbs., $6.99 per bag frozen shrimp headless with shells on, and $6.99 per bag cuttlefish/carved squid. You can do a lot with grocery items here. Inexpensive. Some of the shelves looked empty, but it's still a convenient place to stop for fruits and vegetables. Lots of noodles and sauce ingredients too. One piece fresh ginger $0.35, 2-3 pieces red/green bell peppers $1.40-$1.69, full bag of green scallions $0.99 each, etc. Saw fresh shrimps with heads & shells on $3.99 per lbs. Sometimes, it goes for $2.99 per lbs. If only they invested into a much better building. This place is old. Food packaging are pretty clean and bundled up pretty good. I would still pick up items here knowing that it is more expensive elsewhere around here. Employees chat with each other very much. Manager needs to smile more. They have the basics. Inventory is limited these days. Empty shelves are common. Glad to have a Lion's Supermarket in Milpitas, CA. As shocking as it may be, this particular Asian supermarket may be the worst of the worst when it comes to me stepping foot in.... No refrigeration was working or being used the way that it should have. Items we're being stored randomly in the fridges and was simply very awkward. There was a lingering stench that I can only assuming came from this mess. While there were a couple of snacks I was intrigued by, everything else was just okay. There were plenty of empty slots in the shelves throughout the market. I'm not sure if this store is going out of business or possibly gearing up for an upgrade but how things are currently being managed is a complete N-O!! Lion supermarkets can be a hit or miss when it comes to fresh produce. I have been buying groceries in Asian shops for last 6 years. Lion's at Milpitas always have fresh vegetables and fruits. Fish is also often fresh, so, I buy without plans to get only good ones. read more

I used to swing by before work or after work to get the some needed items. On one occasion as I was walking and granted it was 7:45pm and they wil be closing at 8pm; there was 3 cashiers at the register and one one older employee lady harassing customers in Vietnamese as they were walking in because it was close to closing time. She thought it was funny since lots of the customers walking was Chinese, Hispanic or Caucasian. No more will I be heading to that store. read more

This was my first time to go to this supermarket as my Vietnamese friend told me about it. I will never return to this place. The cashier is disrespectful to customers. She was just talking with someone on the phone. Other employees are so impolite. They don't answer your questions nor help you. The cleaning person mopping the floor will just continue mopping and will wait for you to leave and has a big frown on his face because you were on his way. People in the seafood department would not acknowledge you nor help you. All of the employees here look angry if you are not Vietnamese. They'd only be nice to their fellow country men and to white American people but never to another Asians. Their place is dirty, lots of empty spaces and so it's scary to buy anything because you'll not be sure if it's already expired or an old commodity. So if you're not Vietnamese I will not recommend this supermarket. There are other Asian supermarkets where you'll enjoy shopping and learning new kinds of food and employees are respectful and appreciate you to be their customer. Frozen durian whole fruit here is a big gamble. Bought 10lbs for $35 and cut open to find thick leathery pulp tasting bland. It was like chewing a thick slice of water-soaked beef jerky, not the creamy goodness you expect. They clearly don't do much quality control on the durians, like checking if it was properly flash frozen. Or maybe they're being hoodwinked by the exporters who mix bad and good fruits in the batch. They dump junk like this on unsuspecting customers. They also have big sign saying no returns, which in itself should serve as a warning. There were some in the past that were good, but it's a hit or a miss. If you end-up half the time with junk, then that's $7 a pound, which is no longer worth it. This Lion Market in Milpitas is owned by greedy scammers who post price tag on shelve low prices to attract people to buy then at the check out, you will need to pay 50% more than what you see from their shelve price! I purchased these bone China spoons and their tag prices were on the blue basket for 89 cents each on 6/10 at 2pm. There were 5 of these prices tags for 89 cents on the attached photo. At the check out lane #1, a supervisor/casher (dual roles) scanned at the spoon for $1.29. I then told her it should be 89 cents each as seen on the shelves. She went to the household section to check for the price tag and she told me that is old price and now it is $1.29. I told her your store should honor the price of what customer sees and they said you don't need to buy. She then asked her store assistant/warehouse clerk to make sure to remove that $0.89 price tag. In this scenario both the supervisor and store clerk knew old price was less than a dollar but they still charge at what their "systems" show at and make customer overpaid 50% extra from the original price tag! ( I brought 5 spoons and they made me overpaid $2.) This store has so many tricky, unfaithful, dishonest supervisor and their staffs grouping together to trick customers to overpay their groceries and home goods! The manager does not honor their price and put blame on customers by overcharging. Also this Vietnamese owned grocery store inside smell like rotten dead mice, my clothes was smell like dead meat after short staying of shopping. I highly doubt of their quality of safety and hygiene on meat and fruit. I would suggest people to shop at H-Mart, Osaka Market, or any other Korean market chains for their fresh produce, honest, and polite customer services. read more

The price for products and food sold at this store location is fair, compared to Korean H-mart and 99 Ranch supermarket. Produces are fresh, even with seafood and meats. Overall I will give 4 stars, minutes one star for my cashier's at check out. The male cashier pretended he only understand English, not Chinese. Lucky for me, this supermarket called - "Lion Supermarket" was not too far away from my cousin's house, so off we went to pickup some extra roasted green peas to take home to the 808! Upon getting to this strip mall, I see this fairly large Asian Supermarket...........kinda reminds me like a 99 Ranch Market. Upon walking into the supermarket, we found what we were looking for (Roasted Green Peas), and while I was there, I saw that they sold Powerball tickets too. So I decided to plop down $4 bucks for two Powerball tickets............ after all, the jackpot is now up to $900 million on Saturday Jan. 9, 2016. Since nobody claimed the jackpot yet..........on Sunday Jan. 10, 2016 the jackpot has reached over a billion dollars! WOW! Someone is gonna get lucky indeed! I stop by once a month to restock on items I'm not able to find at my local lions. I only come here for dried goods and snacks. Sometimes produce. I stay away from freezer sections as I've had a bad experience with the items (ie, expired mochi ice cream). I think they may have an issue with their freezer. I've never purchased meat at this location either. I always check the expiration date on every item. Sometimes they are expired. They carry my fave chili oil so it keeps me coming back. read more

I'm a regular here it's literally across the street from my house. Its an Asian market and I am always feeling so welcome here but today I asked four different people for help. One man didn't speak any English it's ok. I moved along to someone who did and I asked for the Asian barbecue sauce if they carried a smaller size. The guy right away told me no. Did not ask for any help did not guide me to another person. I know there's another size I just couldn't find it anywhere. Then walking back the man who could not speak any English tried to help me find someone else to help me. I said it's ok he insisted. He's not what you call great customer service. Clean Asian market compare to many other markets in the South Bay. The vegetables are super fresh. Many vegetables I bought stay fresh in my fridge for over a week. The mints, basils, and many herbs look locally grown as in locally grown in someone's backyard. The herbs look smaller than ranch 99 market's herbs but they're so fragrant and last so long. Don't buy fruits in the refrigerated area. Buy fruits in the display area in the middle. Prices for everything is cheaper than ranch 99 market. Everything is cheaper by at least 50 cents a lb. That adds up to a lot of savings if you're buying lots of fruits and vegetables. Meats and seafood are fresh. They sell free range yellow chicken for $14. The butcher would even cut the chicken in small pieces for you. read more

Horrible and terrible customer service. We bought almost $200 worth of groceries at Lion. We took some plastic grocery bags from the vegetable section to bag later because we were in a hurry. After we checked out and loaded the groceries into the trunk, this cashier lady came out and grabbed the bags away. She was beyond rude and said those bags were $0.10 each. Be reminded those were not carry out bags. I didn't see any signs near those bags that said they cost. She's not the only rude cashier at Lion. This place is just horrible. read more

These super market are getting more versatile where they have the American products too. To become one of the - one stop shop to go places - I loved the fact that I was in the mood for hotpot and they have literally rows of choices of fish, meat, and non-meat frozen items I could choose from. It's like they read my mind. - The parking space is typical - crowded with crazy Asian drivers (I could say that, right?) - Prices here vary from time to time and it is cheaper than the ones in San Jose - I am a fan. Very disappointed in the customer service but what can you expect? I was walking through the grocery store and while passing by the meat and fish area, I slip on a several dry beans that are left out on the floor. My knee almost gave out but I was able to catch myself from falling entirely and while this is happening I hear loud laughter coming from the two men working the meat department. I did not think it was funny at all, my knee almost have out while slipping on these beans that the store failed to sweep and because of that I was left embarrassed and I could have been injured from this. I've been here many times as a kid, and I finally came back on my own recently. Nothing has really been updated or remodeled. The check-out lines still have these annoying metal bar dividers that make the lanes very narrow and definitely would not pass as ADA-friendly. Or if you're a bigger person, have fun squeezing your way down the check-out aisle! There's also a $5 minimum in order to use a card (annoying!), so bring cash if you only plan on buying a small item. And for another heads up, many of the cashiers do not speak or understand English well here. Besides that, I do appreciate the huge selection of Asian items that are offered here. I was able to find my Chinese cough syrup with ease. I also appreciate the fresh seafood they offer in the back as well as other non-food items such as stools and plastic basins. read more

I've been coming to this store for years and it's definitely priced cheaper than Ranch 99 (unless they're having a special). I now come in if I need to replenish my supply of Chinese staples (fresh Chinese veggies, shiitake mushrooms, foo jook, salted turnip, sweet radish, etc.). Their meat department is almost non-existent. Very sad. I did buy two big live crabs yesterday for $5.49 a lb. Each were over 2 lbs.
