An update. Although I do like going to Osaka Marketplace for their premade sandwiches (which I saw recently is made in a place in San Mateo), the parking here during lunch and weekends are not the best situation. Due to a lot of the popular restaurants in the area, it's really hard to find parking well Osaka is also popular too. So if we can, one person in our party waits in the car as the others pick up food inside. Lines also are getting long which means it's getting popular but they move fairly quickly. It's still quite nice inside and organized at least of what I see which is primarily the left side of the store. We may not go as often these days but we still love the crab sandwich, shrimp sandwich and other premade food. They used to have this chestnut dessert but I haven't seen it in a while or they moved it. We'll be back as usual! read more

So many diverse Japanese products for a reasonable price. Came by to pick up a quick lunch! Tried the pre-mades: CA roll and futomaki. I don't even need to give a breakdown for the CA roll. Easiest option, best outcome. You can't ever go wrong with the CA roll! The futomaki was a bummer though. The rice was a bit stale and the filling inside the rice was pretty dry. They have a small food court located on the side of the supermarket, very convenient to sit down and eat. I usually come here for their fresh rolls, Japanese bento plates and onigiris. Although still fresh, their deals for their 20% off are always a steal. I thought it was a weekday deal but found out it's daily and around 5pm. I ended up getting their Mr. Crazy Roll which consist of sashimi salmon and uni over California rolls. It was delicious! I always love coming here for their beauty products and anything cute like Hello Kitty or random lunch bags. Yes, it's still operating and I was able to find some rice seasonings and chasuke additions for around $1.99 per pack to make a good rice dish filled with quality iron/vitamin D/potassium at home. Nice. They do have sales every week if you take time to browse the aisles. Shelves are still organized and clean. Staffs are still surviving and busy at the checkout lines. Osaka Marketplace deli foods are some of the best and most convenient for good value. I'm always able to find good teriyaki, sashimi, and tempura items in bulk. Today, their fish bento boxes (nutritious & delicious) are still $11.99 each. Can't beat that during high inflation foodie economy times. Worth it. Good value for the meal quality. If you're looking for good grills, they have all types in the home goods/kitchen items section. Dried seafood toppings and pasta sauces are still affordable. Osaka is worth shopping for groceries, especially if you know what you're planning to cook at home in advance. Japanese ceramic items are around $1.99-$3.99 each/special sale right now. My go to Japanese Market in the Bay Area! I can't even can't how many times I've been to Osaka Marketplace. They have a wonderful selection of fresh fish, pre-made food, produce, meats, and even gifts! There's also a food court if you need to satisfy your hunger before accidentally buying everything in the market. The staff are always super friendly and are always happy to help you find something. Even if it's on the other side of the store. Also if you purchase a gift, they provide gift bags for you! The one time we got one it was free of charge as well. It's a decent sized store. Big enough that it you slowly go through every aisle it could take longer than an hour. The market currently gives off small business vibes which I love-- but they are expanding and just opened up a second location in Foster City and soon a third location. Osaka marketplace always has a great selection of packaged meals and I do enjoy stopping by when I don't know what to eat. Today they had ichigo daifuku for $5/piece. They were providing samples of warabi mochi right when you walk inside. The yellow mochi had a custard filling while the green mochi had a red bean filling. The mochi was alright... but it was nice to try. I'm not a fan of the filling since it wasn't sweet. I prefer a sweet white bean paste (shiroan) filling but that was not an option. Large Japanese market in the area that has a fresh food section with sushi! If you go towards the end of the day, all of the food is 20% off so you get more bang for your buck. I got the Alaska roll and the spicy tuna roll and they were both decent and fresh. Osaka Marketplace is located in a plaza that is conveniently located in the intersection next to the entrance to Highway 880, and surrounded by wondeful eateries including Pineapple King, Taiwan Cafe, and Tou Les Jours. Opened until 9pm, and also on holidays, it's such a great spot to drop by for Japanese focused (but Asian groceries), some deli food, and picking up last minute gifts. There is so, so much there, not just produce and groceries, but gift sections including plushies, pottery, stationary, beauty masks, Hawaiian snack aisles. I can find most of what I need for Japanese dishes, with pricing being generally reasonable. This supermarket can also be a fun place to walk around too for families with little ones. For ready to eat food, their sushi and bentos are discounted towards the late afternoon/evening, which could be nice if you wanted to stop by for something to take home to dinner. Recently, they've added coolers also for their bentos. Sushi there is pretty good, but I have seen a few trays towards the end of the day where the avocado has browned. They also have a small food court too, but the hours are a bit unpredictable. Mochi donuts and Andersen Bakery bread is also available. Staff is generally polite and helpful. This is our neighborhood Japanese market . This past Saturday it had an Osaka festival. They were selling tickets at the front entrance for their fresher made food . Inside I stopped by two different counters . A red leave called Red Shiso that tasted like raspberry drink . It could be mixed with beer or other drinks , or it could be mixed with ice water 2:1 ( juice 2 to 1 water ) ratio . It tasted great . I also love the imitated crab meat hand sushi demonstrations and sampling. The whole store has a lot of different merchandise: kitchen ware , ready to eat sushi , sashimi, bento boxes for grilled fish , chicken , fried calamari, hand rolls , etc . I grew up going all the way to San Jose for Japanese groceries at Mitsuwa or Marukai. I am so glad that now we have Osaka much closer in the East Bay! This store is a great size with almost everything you can think of! Produce, bakery, freezer, refrigerator, meat, dry foods, cooking utensils, skin care, etc! It's also very clean and I've noticed some days they also give free samples of food (similar to Costco) and have also seen events here outside like food vendors and such. I love coming here because they definitely have certain snacks and brands that cannot be found at your regular grocery stores like Safeway or Luckys. My family and I ate at the food court here. There's not a lot of tables, around 8 that can accommodate parties of 4. The booths can accommodate more, but you have to take chairs away from the other tables. One guy was laying down on the couch seating of one of the booths. And the tables weren't cleaned right away, but I think they're short-staffed. The food came out pretty quickly though. We ordered two bowls of udon, one kitsune and the other wagyu beef, chicken katsu curry, karaage skewers, grilled chicken skewers, takoyaki, and fried shrimp. My kitsune udon was okay. The broth was light and the tofu was sweet as it should be. But there wasn't a lot of udon noodles. I could barely see them in the broth. My dad's wagyu beef udon bowl was much fuller, and he liked it. My mom liked the curry, too. We enjoyed the skewers, and I especially enjoyed the grilled chicken. It was nicely charred and a bit peppery. I added a jidori egg to my udon. I liked that the yolk was jammy, but the tempura part was soggy. I don't think it's worth the extra $1.75. Just stick with a regular egg. The grab-and-section of the store had some decent options of curries, sandwiches, onigiri, etc. There were also discounted mochi donuts. Because of the blackouts, I decided to get a chicken katsu sandwich in case I came back to a dark apartment. There's three small portions, about an inch tall, for $8.99. It was fine. I wanted to get sushi to add to our lunch, but I heard someone sneezing behind the wall where they handle food, so I didn't get any. The grocery portions of the marketplace is good. Lots of varieties of Japanese items as well as Korean items. The produce looked fresh. The bathrooms were disgusting. I almost slipped on the stall. And the garbage cans were overflowing. This was around 1pm, which means it probably hadn't been cleaned since the morning. I don't live in Fremont, so I wouldn't go out of my way to visit here. But if you're already in the marketplace and are hungry, the grab-and-go options would suffice. read more

There aren't any fish markets near me, so whenever I'm in the area, I make it a point to stop here. Their fish is fresh and packaged well, and I like that they have an ice bucket for you to scoop ice and take with you to keep your raw food cold. If you come after 4 PM, their hot food, sushi and pastry items are all marked down 20%. This includes sashimi platters! On the weekends, the selection is usually pretty good, but idk about weekdays around 4 PM. Each sushi roll is about $12.99-14.99 before discount. The rice isn't overly heavy but it obviously isn't as soft as freshly rolled sushi. A few pieces fell apart when I picked them up, but I appreciate that each had good filling to rice ratio. They have little stickers along the top to tell you what is in each roll. Sashimi platters are placed separately from the sashimi bowls and sushi rolls, just a FYI. I almost missed them when I last went! I got the flaming roll, sumo roll and the special bonito #3 plate for about $40. I feel like this was priced well after the 20% discount, so would def come back to try more next time. The sumo roll had a torched salmon on top which I thought I would love but it ended up just making the fish on top super dry. The flaming roll tasted more fresh so I ended up liking that one more of the two. All the sashimi in my plate was super fresh. While I didn't end up eating the rice under the fish, I think the ratio of fish and rice was appropriate for a meal. I wish they had extra soy sauce packets on the side somewhere but they do offer you chopsticks at checkout. They have your standard selection of Japanese snacks and goods. Their ceramic bowls and plates are super cute, and they seem to have a pretty fast check out system with all lanes open during the weekend. They have a security guard at the door who checks your receipt btw. Parking is okay, there's a shared lot in the plaza but it's pretty busy as there are a lot of yummy stores in the plaza (Pineapple King, Happy Lemon, etc). read more

I've visited this Japanese marketplace at least 4x since discovering it last month during a house remodeling adventure in Fremont area. To be expected, we got the munchies and I went to my handy dandy helper - Yelpie - to assist finding us some good snacks in between our remodel hunt. Very lucky to have found this gem and for this amazing HH pricing too! After 5pm, all room temp/cool ready to eat items -- inari, poke bowls, nigiri, onigiris, bento boxes --- all 20% off. Selection varies! 5/5 Inari - perfect seasoned inari! Don't event meet soy sauce 6/5 Salmon Aburi - this is my 4th time visiting and I've never seen salmon Aburi here. Boy am I so glad I did!! It is my all time favorite. Not pictured cause it was devoured too quickly: 3/5 Beef Onigiri - never had this one before either. It was marinated well but happened to get too much rice ratio to protein on this one. 5/5 Salmon Mayo Onigiri - the way these things are packaged are so ingenious. My first time opening, I felt like I was living in 2030. Japanese makers found a way to properly separate the nori from the rice during packaging so it doesn't get soggy or moist while it's waiting to be purchased. Super cool! 5/5 Urchin - my bf loved this one! I normally don't enjoy this type so I did not try personally. 5/5 Mixed Poke Bowl - great variety of fish to rice ratio. Shoyu sauce (included) really brings out the flavors of the fish. You don't need much. Don't forget to ask for napkins and chopsticks at the register! I am reviewing the food court. First the good: I didn't think the food would be that good because the prices were so low. $13 for ramen? But it was actually really good. I got an oyako Don with katsu chicken and that also was really good for $12.50. The only reason I took 2 stars off was the ambiance is very unprofessional. These are easy fixes and there is so much potential. But first of all we put in our order at the kisosk and ten minutes later my husband went to go check and all they said was "it's cooking" but they actually forgot the order. You could see them going to the place where they get the order and talking to the cooks to make our food. The place was literally empty and it took forever to get our food and there were like 6 workers! They were laughing and joking, moving a slow as a snail. I wish I could work there! Looks pretty chill to me. The other thing which was very annoying was all of the workers sitting in the dining area blasting their YouTube at full volume. There must have been 4 workers all sitting at their own table, on their phones, 2 of them at full blast. The area is not that big so it feels like you are overtaken by the workers and cannot eat in peace. And it is Saturday lunchtime, not the end of the night when I maybe could see it being more appropriate then. I just have never seen this before at any restaurant in the US. Anyway this place has great potential, mainly for their food and prices. Portions are also not bad. But everything else can be cleaned up and streamlined, and they could have a lot more business! I recently got a huge sashimi platter with tuna, salmon, hamachi, scallops, masago and seaweed salad for $40 after the evening discounts and the quality was amazing for a platter from a grocery store. I used it to make hand rolls. Would recommend! The poke bowls and sushi seem great as well. I've tried the Too Good To Go order from the deli here too and the value is really good for $5. I recently visited Osaka Marketplace in Fremont (near 680/880). I usually enjoy shopping at this Japanese grocery store because it offers fresh sashimi and a good selection of Japanese products. Unfortunately, my experience today was disappointing due to poor customer service. I was looking for a Japanese beer, but the shelf was empty. I saw an employee coming from the back and politely said, "Excuse me." She didn't respond, so I said it again a bit louder. She replied, "I need to go help a customer," and quickly walked away. I was left thinking, I guess I'm not considered a customer. She could have easily said she would be back, but she never returned. Later, I was looking for azuki (red) beans. I asked another employee where I could find them, and she told me to ask the cashiers. I went to the checkout area, stood in line, and waited my turn just to ask. The cashiers didn't seem to know either. One said they only carried canned sweet red beans but didn't know where they were. When I clarified that I was looking for real azuki beans, they said they didn't have them and didn't know what I was talking about. Ironically, I eventually found the azuki beans myself. The point is, Osaka Marketplace really needs to improve employee training--both in basic customer service and in knowledge of the products they carry. Quick synopsis - 4 stars for the actual marketplace, 2 stars for the food at the food court, ao averaged it out to 3 start. I was getting an alignment done on my car nearby and the wife and I are travelling to Japan in October so we've been trying to immerse ourselves in Japanese culture lately, (going to Japantown in SJ and SF). We decided to eat lunch here and kill some time. The food court has a decent array of options with Ramen, Curry, even Wagyu sandwiches and Takoyaki, (though the menu says "Tacoyaki"). They supposedly have Suishi there too but there was a sign that said that they were out and would be back in 15 minutes. This was wrong because we were there for about 45 minutes total and nobody ever came back. You order from a kiosk so if you want to ask questions about things you're kind of SOL. I ordered the beef Ramen and Wagyu sandwich because I wanted to try it. The wife got Tonkatsu Curry. The Ramen and Curry came out pretty fast, but we ended up waiting quite a while for the Wagyu sandwich. I went back to the counter a couple of times to ask about it and was told they forgot about it. They gave me the option of getting a refund but I wanted to try the thing so I decided to wait. The worker ended up giving a skewer of Tempura Shrimp because of our wait but even that was a little weird. It wasn't just a piece of Ebi. It had something squishy inside as well, like some sort of paste or something. It was very off-putting and I only ended up having 1 bite of the Tempura. As for the Ramen and Curry, they were ok. The beef on my Ramen was super over cooked but still ended up having a decent texture. But the noodles were definitely just something out of a package that you can probably buy in the store. The Tonkatsu was pretty good. As for the Wagyu sandwich we waited so long for, well it certainly was not worth the wait. There was way too much cole slaw on it so that ended up being pretty much all I tasted. When I took off the cole slaw and tried just the meat, it was pretty salty. Very disappointing. Hopefully the Wagyu in Japan is better. After lunch we walked around the market and had a good time picking out snacks and drinks. I was very excited to visit Osaka Marketplace. Honestly, I like to visit any big Asian markets. My husband and I visited for the first time, and we were immediately drawn to their fresh food area. Since it was the end of the day, lots of sashimi, chirashi bowls, and hot plates were on sale. We decided to try a few things. I always loved the fruit sandwich when I was in Japan, so I was happy to see that they had it here. The bread was soft and spongey while the cream was light and loaded with different fruits. I got 2 chirashi bowls which included uni, and they were delicious and fresh. They had a small platter of bluefin tuna which I made into onigiri the next day.
