It had challenges, usually the result of sub-contractors that worked for him, just like every project does. I wanted to update my rating from 4 stars to 5 because even years later Barry came back to fix things that I needed help with, and even recently he gladly provided some information to a friend that needed expert advice. He's a great guy, and I'm glad he's still in the business. I'd use him again in a heartbeat.

Highly Recommended General Contractor…read more I first heard about Barry because he did some work on my in-laws house. Then I come to find out that he built my coworkers house (Roger H). Both spoke very highly about the quality of work performed. In my experience, it's very difficult to find an honest contractor these days without paying those exorbitant bids from the big guys. As for my personal experience with Barry I got a bid for some demo work on my new home. His bid was one the lowest, almost 1/2 off some of the other bids we received. Do not take this recommendation lightly, at least get a bid from Sherman Co.

From start to finish, the project moved quickly and stayed on schedule, which we really appreciated. The team was on-site every day, clearly committed to getting the work done right and efficiently. Everyone was respectful, professional, and easy to communicate with throughout the process. They paid close attention to detail and made a real effort to keep the work areas as tidy and organized as possible each day--something that made living through a remodel much easier. We're very happy with the results and would absolutely recommend them to anyone looking for a reliable, hardworking team.

Our master bath turned out amazing and was completed within the budget and timeline Alejandro promised. We couldn't be happier with the result!

I had a designer do the plans which Kevin followed but the work involved demo and rebuild of part of the old garage which had some serious out-of-square and sagging issues. Kevin fixed all of those issues. The second project was a patio cover built to county plan over what had been an uncovered area. It is now a gorgeous yoga spot for my wife. Throughout both projects Kevin was on top of everything, easy to work with and had lots of great suggestions yet also listened to my inputs. I could not more highly recommend Kevin and Custom Builders and Exteriors. He does great work!

I do not recommend working with Manny and Jasmine…read more As a property manager, I hired them for a full apartment renovation in Escondido after the previous tenants left the unit in very poor condition. While this was more than a standard turnover, the project still should have taken no more than two months. Instead, it dragged on for several months. I ultimately fired them after repeatedly being charged for work I had not approved, being told crews were on-site when they weren't, and constantly getting the runaround on the project's status. After hiring a new contractor, he identified the source of a lingering urine odor within minutes - something that had gone unresolved for months because Manny was never on-site. The workmanship was also poor. I had to hire another contractor to redo the staircase. When I went to pick up the flooring, the shop let me know that they always had that flooring in stock. Jasmine spent almost a month telling me it was "ordered and on the way". Within one week of the tenant moving in, the upstairs shower leaked into the downstairs bathroom because the wrong shower valve had been installed, requiring remediation. I felt bad for the tenant, whose move-in had already been delayed by a month due to Jasmine promising the work would be done by a specific date and then having to extend the renovation. They also were not familiar with basic California smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector requirements, which I had to explain to them. A rule that Manny as a contractor and Jasmine as a project manager should know. As of today, they still owe the homeowner money for the remediation. Jasmine has sent photos claiming a check was mailed, but we've never received it. I stopped responding to her because I don't trust her. I hired them to make my job easier. Instead, I spent months correcting mistakes, disputing unapproved charges, managing delays, and ultimately hiring another contractor, who completed their mistakes and remaining work in less than two weeks. I would also like to note that their Yelp profile advertises "damage restoration" services, but that was not my experience. Their estimate included removing mold-affected drywall in a water heater closet. However, before I terminated their services, they told me that this was "not something they do."
