We had such a great experience with Liquid Cosmos Divers on Hawaiʻi Island. The boat was really comfortable and custom-built for divers, and we loved the selection of advanced drift dive sites. Jess, the marine biologist, made the trip even more special with her knowledge, warmth, and enthusiasm. She also captured an amazing spotted ray video and shared it with us. There aren't many shops that truly cater to more experienced divers, so we were thrilled to find them. They also offer beginner courses, and I'd highly recommend Jess for any ocean-loving kid who wants to be a mermaid or is fascinated by the sea. Our experience diving with Liquid Cosmos Divers was simply fantastic. This was my family's first time diving off the Kohala Coast of the Big Island, and we picked Liquid Cosmos Divers because of Mike, Jess and their purposely built dive boat named "Moonshine." Scheduling the three days of diving with Mike and Liquid Cosmos Divers was very easy and Mike kept in contact with us through the entire process. We met Mike and Jess at the boat ramp, which was easy to find with ample free parking. Their boat is very clean and you can tell that Mike and Jess put a lot of time and thought into the design to make it comfortable and very safe for diving. Although Mike offered to put our equipment together, he had no problems letting us put the equipment on the aluminum 80 cylinders filled to the rated pressure with Nitrox. Before leaving the harbor, Mike conducted a concise safety briefing. During this briefing, my family could tell that diver safety and comfort were very important to both Jess and Mike. As we got close to the dive site, Jess did an amazing job describing the types of animals we might see at the site and how to recognize them. Underwater Jess used an erasable slate to write information about the animals we were seeing and why they were important. My 14 year old son loves learning about the marine environment and Jess taught him so much in the three days of diving. Jess is an amazing dive guide and dive professional and my family and I loved diving with her. Although I cannot predict future dive or sea state conditions, in June of 2026, we had calm seas, 80 to 90 feet of visibility and warm water temps between 77 and 78 degrees. We saw dolphins, sharks, puffer fish, several rare or endemic species of reef fish, multiple eels, nudibrachs, and schools of barracuda. The coral was in great condition and Mike and Jess took us to a location that had coral for as far as we could see. Mike is a great boat captain, diver and water guy and placed us directly on each dive site and then safely picked us up. The boat has prop guards, which made me as a father happy, and a warm water shower that made my wife very happy. Between dives, Mike brought out apple bananas, papayas grown by his house, and vegan muffins that were very tasty, while Jess conducted a comprehensive debrief on what we saw during the dive. I could tell that being friends with the environment was very important to Mike and Jess and no trash or waste was ever thrown overboard. Mike and Jess make sure each diver has their own stainless steel water bottle to keep waste to a minimum and to keep the divers hydrated. The boat has plenty of dry storage, plenty of shade for the divers, and a ladder that is easy to climb. When my family returns to Hawaii we will definitely be going back out with Liquid Cosmos Divers. read more

My husband and I recently went diving with Liquid Cosmos, and we were so impressed with Mike and Jess. It's clear that Mike and Jess care deeply about the ocean. They really focus on teaching you about the environment and making sure you and the sea life are safe. That means a lot. Diving with Jess was a huge highlight for me. Her love for everything underwater, from the smallest organisms to the biggest creatures, was obvious from the moment we started our briefing. One of the best moments was when she spotted three longnose black butterfly fish, which is apparently a very rare sight! Her excitement for what she does is contagious, and she helps you appreciate all the small details. Then there's the boat, the "Moonshine." As a former marine professional, I have to say it's the nicest center console dive boat I've ever been on. They thought of every single detail, like having a hot shower on the back and a sea anchor Mike used to make getting back on board super easy. My husband and I are both relatively advanced divers who showed up with our own gear, but it's clear that Mike and Jess take incredible care of everything they own. I'd be completely confident renting gear from them knowing it would be in top-notch shape. Jess and Mike were outstanding! They know all of the best dive spots, care deeply about the ocean and marine animals, and really want everyone on their boat to have an amazing experience. While diving, Jess wrote down and showed us the names of every animal we pointed out and she found so many cute nudibranchs. I've been on dives all over the world, but this was above the rest. We were lucky enough to also see dolphins surround the boat and whales jumping nearby. It was a perfect morning. read more

What an awesome dive operation! We've been coming to the Big Island for years now and tried basically all of the Kona operations. When we were on island this latest trip, the only shop down there that we love and would recommend (Pacific Rim Divers) shut down for several weeks for vacation. So we decided to look for diving up north in Kohala, and came across Liquid Cosmos. And we are so glad we did. Mike and Jess and both super knowledgeable and friendly, and their boat/rental gear is top of the line. We especially appreciated the small intimate operation. And the diving off Kohala is a step above anything else we've done on the island, with a wealth of healthy coral and abundant fish life. We will be coming back no doubt. Extremely professional dive outfit. I've dived all over the world and met a lot of dive guides. Mike and Jess are the real deal. Extremely knowledgeable (Jess has her phd in marine biology, Mike is a seasoned search and rescue diver, they have 15k dives between them), very nice boat (built from scratch to cater to divers), and they work their tails off to provide a top-notch experience. I can't recommend this business highly enough. My dad hadn't been diving in 10 years, and they were extremely patient and attentive to him. On the flip side, my husband has a bunch of photography equipment he brings on a boat, and they knew just what to do (how to handle the gear, helping him get shots, etc.) And I was happy to get tasty (vegan!) banana muffins and fresh fruit from their garden As a side note, I would especially dive with these guys if you're staying in the Mauna Lani complex. The hotel unceremoniously yeeted Mauna Lani Sea Adventures in a very messed up way (ask any professional diver on the Kohala side about it, they'll tell you about it.) This is a way for you to support a small, local business while you do your dives, and it's only like a 10-minute drive to their boat slip. read more

My 15 year old son, 18 year old daughter, my husband and I did the Discover Scuba as a private charter with this business. Mike and Noe were highly professional, exceptionally knowledgeable, and they handled small issues with grace (son had trouble equalizing, husband got seasick). We dove in crystal blue water and saw an abundance of creatures including octopuses, turtles, sea slugs, eels, shrimp, and a variety of fish. Their banana nut muffins were also delicious. We dove with Mike and Jess aboard Moonshine on 1/15/2024. Mike and Jess were amazing and knowledgable. Mike was extremely helpful from the moment we step aboard Moonshine. Jess being a marine biologist was beyond awesome to dive with. Before the dive she briefed on what we would see and had color photos of everything we were looking for on the dive. This dive organization is truly exceptional. It is run by a couple, Mike and Jess, who both have decades of experience. Their knowledge of both the technical aspects of diving and of the marine life is unsurpassed. Jess is getting her PhD in marine biology so she knows a huge amount about the ocean and the critters you see in it. Mike is a technical diver and so even though three of us were experienced divers he still gave us lots of tips to improve our-skills. This was particularly helpful for my husband, who is an older man and had some difficulty with buoyancy. Mike figured out that the type of BCD he was using was the problem and so for our last day he used a different one and it was much better. The fourth member of our party was a brand new diver who got certified during our trip with Jess. She did not have a lot of ocean water experience and so was quite anxious about it. Jess was incredibly calm and patient and our new diver felt safe and taken care of the whole time. Now let's talk about the boat. You can really tell the quality of a dive organization by the boat they use. Jess and Mike custom designed their boat using the Coast Guard boat frame and then outfitting it for divers. It's perfectly set up to be comfortable safe and easy to maneuver in. Jess and Mike handle small groups of up to six people which results in a lot of personal attention. They know the dive sites off the north coast extensively and even installed mooring locations used by their boats and others which are to Coast Guard specifications. This involved drilling safely down into the ocean floor to create an anchor that dive boats can hook on to. We spent three days of diving with them. Jess, and Mike provided delicious fruit, protein bars and homemade muffins for our snacks. I hope we get to come back. Truly an exceptional experience. Mahalo! read more

I have dived all over the Pacific Ocean, from Palau to Truck to the remote Mortlock Islands, and I have never had better dives than with Mikhail and Jess of Liquid Cosmos. They have forgotten more about sea life than I will ever know. They have very deep knowledge about both local life and oceanic life in general. Among other things, Jess is an expert on all things coral, and offers fascinating insights both before and after each dive. They do an incredible job of ensuring you're safe and catering to all skill levels from beginner to expect. Their equipment (and snacks!) are high quality and clearly carefully chosen. But the highlight of an already great dive was the expertise they bring to the dive. Jess is a marine biologist and will explain what you're seeing in the water, highlight what different behaviors the wildlife is exhibiting and direct you to areas with particularly special animals. Went on the morning 2-tank dive with Mike and Noe, who were both very friendly, accommodating, and knowledgeable. My son and I absolutely loved the twilight and night 2 tank dive. From our initial call to Mike, the whole experience was very professional and well run. The boat is a fantastic design for diving, and with just 6 divers the experience is so much more personal. Mike clearly explained the safety procedures before setting off from the port, and Jess took us through a detailed introduction to Nitrox diving. The boat handles beautifully, and on the way out we were lucky to encounter Spinner dolphins. With Jess being a marine biologist her knowledge was invaluable to the enjoyment of the trip. All the gear on the boat is very well maintained and Mike had it ready for us as soon as we hit the first dive spot. It wasn't long before we were in the water for our first dive. Jess guided us through the dive, pointing out rare creatures and species endemic to Hawaii. The fish life is amazing, and so different from home. Throughout the dive we always felt safe under her guidance. Muffins and fresh fruit were provided during the trip to the second dive spot. As the sun went down, a full moon rose over Mauna Kea - amazing. The twilight dive was the best. The flashlight provided was excellent, and as the water got darker the fish life came alive. Eels, slipper lobster, fish galore, a big lava tube - this dive had it all. To cap it off at the end of the dive we were visited by 2 manta rays. A quick shower on the back of the boat and we were headed back to port. An absolute highlight of our trip to Hawaii, and would definitely dive with Liquid Cosmos again. read more

I messaged Liquid Cosmos after arriving in Waikoloa and asked about a dive trip that week. They responded within 24 hours and got me on a morning dive with 4 other people. The entire experience with them was AWESOME! I hadn't dove in 6 years. Mike and Jess made sure I was comfortable with all the gear before the first dive. Their boat Moonshine is the best dive boat I've ever been on, a custom built rig with perfect setup. Mike and Jess are very experienced and safe dive leaders/masters with over 8,000 hours underwater for each of them. We did 2 dives at Puako, each were amazing :). Jess led the dives in the water with a notepad so she could write the names of the creatures and describe their behaviors. Her knowledge is exceptional (she is currently working on a PhD in Marine Biology). We saw a huge variety of fish and wildlife, listing a few: mating octopi, 7-11 crab, manta ray, Eagle ray, turtles with a turtle cleaning station, a mucus umbrella, garden eel, and many types of Moray eel.
