The snorkeled hold on to the board and are led around by an expert guide
Noelle L.

We did the snorkel and dive manta ray excursion and couldn't have been happier! The guides (April, Flipper and captain Mike) were enthusiastic, friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. They easily accommodated people of all different skill levels and were sensitive to a swimmer with medical conditions. They provided all the equipment - wet suits, snorkels, masks and dive gear for the scuba folks. The mantas were active and it was truly a once in a lifetime experience. The swim itself was 30 min. The boat ride was about 20 min including putting down the anchor. I cannot recommend them enough!

These guys and gals are out of this world fantastic! Flipper, Sam, April, and Captain Joe are all awesome! If you have a chance to dive the Manta Rays at night do not pass it up! It is beyond anything you could ever imagine. Thank you Blue Wilderness Dive Adventures...we will be back!

Another Manta coming in for a flyby.

THE. ABSOLUTE. BEST. EXPERIENCE. EVER! Flipper, Sam, and Colin made this adventure the greatest experience of our entire vacation. I can't recommend Blue Wilderness Dive Adventure any more. You've never seen Manta Rays this close and will NOT be disappointed.

Liquid Hawaii - comfortable snorkeling gear

Would highly recommend the night snorkeling with manta rays with Liquid Hawaii. Location was
read moreconvenient to get to from the Mauna Kea/Westin resort areas. It also meant we were removed from the crowds of Kona where we've seen photos of lines of boards lined up. The only two boats in the entire bay were from Liquid Hawaii which made for a quieter more intimate experience. Captain and crew were great with our kids and made sure my youngest had a good time despite deciding not to get in the water. Recommend bringing a waterproof camera if you have one to capture the moment.

We went on a snorkeling and whale watching tour with Liquid Hawaii for our wedding anniversary, and
read moreit ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. Matt, the owner, was incredibly knowledgeable about the island's history and marine life, and he was kind enough to honor our tour even though they didn't have the minimum group size of four passengers that day. That alone says a lot about the kind of business he runs. He also made our anniversary feel extra special by providing a fresh seafood lunch with fish he had caught himself, which was such a thoughtful and unexpected touch. The tour was about 3.5 to 4 hours total. From the marina, it was roughly a 10 minute boat ride to the snorkel spot. The ride itself was very comfortable. There is some shade on the boat, but it's not fully covered, so definitely bring solid sun protection. A long sleeve rash guard or sun shirt is a good idea. On the way out, we saw a few whales in the distance and once we were in the water, we could actually hear them singing. It was surreal and honestly kind of magical. The snorkel location itself was beautiful, with several sea turtles, tons of fish, and colorful coral. There was only one other boat nearby, so it felt remote and almost private rather than crowded or rushed. Hunter, our snorkel guide, was relaxed and helpful, and we were able to move at our own pace which made the whole experience feel unhurried and personalized. We didn't get to see any whales up close unfortunately, they just weren't cooperating that day, but even hearing them underwater was something we won't forget. Matt was friendly, down to earth, and clearly passionate about what he does. He offers both land and water tours, and we appreciated the local perspective woven throughout the experience. If you're looking for a more intimate, locally run excursion instead of a large crowded boat tour, I would absolutely recommend Liquid Hawaii.

We had such a great experience with Liquid Cosmos Divers on Hawaiʻi Island. The boat was really
read morecomfortable and custom-built for divers, and we loved the selection of advanced drift dive sites. Jess, the marine biologist, made the trip even more special with her knowledge, warmth, and enthusiasm. She also captured an amazing spotted ray video and shared it with us. There aren't many shops that truly cater to more experienced divers, so we were thrilled to find them. They also offer beginner courses, and I'd highly recommend Jess for any ocean-loving kid who wants to be a mermaid or is fascinated by the sea. She is an excellent teacher and about as close to a real-life mermaid as you will find!

Our experience diving with Liquid Cosmos Divers was simply fantastic. This was my family's first
read moretime diving off the Kohala Coast of the Big Island, and we picked Liquid Cosmos Divers because of Mike, Jess and their purposely built dive boat named "Moonshine." Scheduling the three days of diving with Mike and Liquid Cosmos Divers was very easy and Mike kept in contact with us through the entire process. We met Mike and Jess at the boat ramp, which was easy to find with ample free parking. Their boat is very clean and you can tell that Mike and Jess put a lot of time and thought into the design to make it comfortable and very safe for diving. Although Mike offered to put our equipment together, he had no problems letting us put the equipment on the aluminum 80 cylinders filled to the rated pressure with Nitrox. Before leaving the harbor, Mike conducted a concise safety briefing. During this briefing, my family could tell that diver safety and comfort were very important to both Jess and Mike. As we got close to the dive site, Jess did an amazing job describing the types of animals we might see at the site and how to recognize them. Underwater Jess used an erasable slate to write information about the animals we were seeing and why they were important. My 14 year old son loves learning about the marine environment and Jess taught him so much in the three days of diving. Jess is an amazing dive guide and dive professional and my family and I loved diving with her. Although I cannot predict future dive or sea state conditions, in June of 2026, we had calm seas, 80 to 90 feet of visibility and warm water temps between 77 and 78 degrees. We saw dolphins, sharks, puffer fish, several rare or endemic species of reef fish, multiple eels, nudibrachs, and schools of barracuda. The coral was in great condition and Mike and Jess took us to a location that had coral for as far as we could see. Mike is a great boat captain, diver and water guy and placed us directly on each dive site and then safely picked us up. The boat has prop guards, which made me as a father happy, and a warm water shower that made my wife very happy. Between dives, Mike brought out apple bananas, papayas grown by his house, and vegan muffins that were very tasty, while Jess conducted a comprehensive debrief on what we saw during the dive. I could tell that being friends with the environment was very important to Mike and Jess and no trash or waste was ever thrown overboard. Mike and Jess make sure each diver has their own stainless steel water bottle to keep waste to a minimum and to keep the divers hydrated. The boat has plenty of dry storage, plenty of shade for the divers, and a ladder that is easy to climb. When my family returns to Hawaii we will definitely be going back out with Liquid Cosmos Divers.

Our Waikoloa Scouts Troop and families went on our annual whale watch on March 8 aboard Sea Smoke
read morewith Ocean Sports, and after doing this outing for more than 9 years, I can honestly say this was one of the best trips yet. We had about 30 Scouts and family members join us, and the whales absolutely showed up! We saw pods everywhere, tail slaps, and even a full breach. The highlight was when a humpback surfaced about 10 yards from the boat, giving the kids a once-in-a-lifetime moment. The crew also dropped the hydrophone, allowing everyone to hear the whales singing underwater, which was an incredible learning experience for the Scouts. Moments like that truly connect our youth with the ocean and the amazing wildlife here in Hawaiʻi. Ocean Sports continues to impress us every year. Booking was easy, waivers were handled electronically, check-in was smooth, parking simple, and the hospitality from the crew was outstanding. They were knowledgeable, welcoming, and fantastic with the kids. Mahalo to the entire Sea Smoke crew for sharing the ocean with us and helping create such an unforgettable adventure for our Scouts and families. Your aloha spirit and professionalism make this trip something we look forward to every year. Highly recommend Ocean Sports whale watch tours!

I had a blast on this daytime snorkeling tour. I got to climb aboard the RIB navy seal type boat,
read moreit felt like an adventure. The guides took the tour out to the Captain Cook Monument, where the snorkeling was cool. The water was clear, the marine life plenty, and it ended up being one of the best snorkeling spots I've experienced. One tip: be sure to rent the flippers when you sign up. They made a huge difference and helped a lot in the water. They are not provided from the all in tour price. For the tour price you get the ride and snorkel mask with a floaty. They also rent life jackets if you need that. This tour is definitely geared toward people who are comfortable swimming and being on an open-air boat. If you're nervous in the water or can't swim or prefer a more relaxed boat ride, this isn't it. If you're looking for excitement, it's hard to beat. What really made the experience special were the crew members. Our captain and lifeguard were laid-back, friendly, and made everyone feel safe while keeping the atmosphere fun. The highlight for me was racing along the coastline at nearly 50 knots, bouncing across the waves and taking in incredible views of the island. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Think twice before booking with this company
read more I chose this excursion because it was shorter (2.5 hours) while still including snorkeling and a tour of the Captain Cook area. Unfortunately, the experience did not meet expectations. The first issue was the check-in process. The confirmation email tells guests where to meet but does not provide clear instructions on where to check in. Parking at this harbor is extremely limited, and Kona traffic can be very congested. Ironically, the company's own confirmation email emphasizes allowing a one-hour buffer before and after the tour and specifically advises guests not to schedule anything within an hour of the excursion. That warning exists for a reason. Despite everyone else arriving on time, our departure was delayed by nearly 30 minutes because the crew chose to wait for two guests who were stuck in traffic. As a result, every passenger who arrived as instructed lost approximately 30 minutes of a tour they had paid for while standing in the heat waiting. It felt unfair that those who planned accordingly were penalized because others did not. I expressed my irritation to the lifeguard assigned to our boat and was met with a dismissive response rather than an acknowledgment of the inconvenience. Once we finally departed, the captain welcomed everyone and said to let the crew know if we needed anything. During the safety briefing, I asked if my son could have some water. Instead of simply providing it or explaining when it would be available, I received a sarcastic response, and my son was not given any water. While the scenery and destination are beautiful, the customer service and handling of these situations left much to be desired. Better communication, adherence to the published schedule, and more respectful interactions with guests would have made for a much better experience.
