Just got open water certified through their instructor Adam and he was great. Spent the time to explain everything, was calm and patient in the water, and was always in control of our safety during our tests. They followed up the dive test with a final fun dive at the Pentagon which was awesome. Went through the lava tubes, saw some amazing fish, conch, and an octopus. Captain Doug, James, and Bob were great and had everything ready to go at each stop. Boat is docked right at the beach so it was really convenient to get to in Waikoloa.

Getting some additional instruction.

Wow. Just wow. I had done some digging online before we came to Hawaii and stumbled across Doug and his crew. We had two older kids that wanted to scuba and a nephew who was thinking about it. With a family of 14 coming to the island, I had lots of questions, and Doug patiently answered them all. When we showed up on Tuesday morning at 0730, we met Doug, Jason and Wesley. They were polite and helpful as 8 of us loaded up on our private tour. Our divers were all first-timers and were 12-21 years old. Wesley did such a great time explaining what was going to happen in a way they could clearly understand, and it was a lot of information. Once the diving started, they were so patient and helpful. We had one diver who couldn't complete the challenge and they were kind and gentle and complementary. They had fun with the family, they brought an octopus for those of us not diving, and had fun sharing information about ocean life. I'd love to give myself the credit for hunting down such a great group, but I really just feel like we got incredibly lucky. We will be back, we will recommend them and we will let everyone know how great they are!

First family dive... 17, 15 and 10 year old sons with us. Took the 2 hour intro class and then did the open water dives 2 days later. Wesley did a wonderful job going at the pace of our 10 year old while Adam kept the rest of us busy looking for sea life. So impressed with Wesley and his patience/kindness. Our 10 year old loved te experience and cannot wait to go again.

Scuba diving in warm water with snow in the background?!!! So fun!!!

Jess, the marine biologist, made the trip even more special with her knowledge, warmth, and enthusiasm. She also captured an amazing spotted ray video and shared it with us. There aren't many shops that truly cater to more experienced divers, so we were thrilled to find them. They also offer beginner courses, and I'd highly recommend Jess for any ocean-loving kid who wants to be a mermaid or is fascinated by the sea. She is an excellent teacher and about as close to a real-life mermaid as you will find!

Scheduling the three days of diving with Mike and Liquid Cosmos Divers was very easy and Mike kept in contact with us through the entire process. We met Mike and Jess at the boat ramp, which was easy to find with ample free parking. Their boat is very clean and you can tell that Mike and Jess put a lot of time and thought into the design to make it comfortable and very safe for diving. Although Mike offered to put our equipment together, he had no problems letting us put the equipment on the aluminum 80 cylinders filled to the rated pressure with Nitrox. Before leaving the harbor, Mike conducted a concise safety briefing. During this briefing, my family could tell that diver safety and comfort were very important to both Jess and Mike. As we got close to the dive site, Jess did an amazing job describing the types of animals we might see at the site and how to recognize them. Underwater Jess used an erasable slate to write information about the animals we were seeing and why they were important. My 14 year old son loves learning about the marine environment and Jess taught him so much in the three days of diving. Jess is an amazing dive guide and dive professional and my family and I loved diving with her. Although I cannot predict future dive or sea state conditions, in June of 2026, we had calm seas, 80 to 90 feet of visibility and warm water temps between 77 and 78 degrees. We saw dolphins, sharks, puffer fish, several rare or endemic species of reef fish, multiple eels, nudibrachs, and schools of barracuda. The coral was in great condition and Mike and Jess took us to a location that had coral for as far as we could see. Mike is a great boat captain, diver and water guy and placed us directly on each dive site and then safely picked us up. The boat has prop guards, which made me as a father happy, and a warm water shower that made my wife very happy. Between dives, Mike brought out apple bananas, papayas grown by his house, and vegan muffins that were very tasty, while Jess conducted a comprehensive debrief on what we saw during the dive. I could tell that being friends with the environment was very important to Mike and Jess and no trash or waste was ever thrown overboard. Mike and Jess make sure each diver has their own stainless steel water bottle to keep waste to a minimum and to keep the divers hydrated. The boat has plenty of dry storage, plenty of shade for the divers, and a ladder that is easy to climb. When my family returns to Hawaii we will definitely be going back out with Liquid Cosmos Divers.

Matt, the owner, was incredibly knowledgeable about the island's history and marine life, and he was kind enough to honor our tour even though they didn't have the minimum group size of four passengers that day. That alone says a lot about the kind of business he runs. He also made our anniversary feel extra special by providing a fresh seafood lunch with fish he had caught himself, which was such a thoughtful and unexpected touch. The tour was about 3.5 to 4 hours total. From the marina, it was roughly a 10 minute boat ride to the snorkel spot. The ride itself was very comfortable. There is some shade on the boat, but it's not fully covered, so definitely bring solid sun protection. A long sleeve rash guard or sun shirt is a good idea. On the way out, we saw a few whales in the distance and once we were in the water, we could actually hear them singing. It was surreal and honestly kind of magical. The snorkel location itself was beautiful, with several sea turtles, tons of fish, and colorful coral. There was only one other boat nearby, so it felt remote and almost private rather than crowded or rushed. Hunter, our snorkel guide, was relaxed and helpful, and we were able to move at our own pace which made the whole experience feel unhurried and personalized. We didn't get to see any whales up close unfortunately, they just weren't cooperating that day, but even hearing them underwater was something we won't forget. Matt was friendly, down to earth, and clearly passionate about what he does. He offers both land and water tours, and we appreciated the local perspective woven throughout the experience. If you're looking for a more intimate, locally run excursion instead of a large crowded boat tour, I would absolutely recommend Liquid Hawaii.

We had about 30 Scouts and family members join us, and the whales absolutely showed up! We saw pods everywhere, tail slaps, and even a full breach. The highlight was when a humpback surfaced about 10 yards from the boat, giving the kids a once-in-a-lifetime moment. The crew also dropped the hydrophone, allowing everyone to hear the whales singing underwater, which was an incredible learning experience for the Scouts. Moments like that truly connect our youth with the ocean and the amazing wildlife here in Hawaiʻi. Ocean Sports continues to impress us every year. Booking was easy, waivers were handled electronically, check-in was smooth, parking simple, and the hospitality from the crew was outstanding. They were knowledgeable, welcoming, and fantastic with the kids. Mahalo to the entire Sea Smoke crew for sharing the ocean with us and helping create such an unforgettable adventure for our Scouts and families. Feb 2026 - Based on my experience, I urge you to consider not doing business with this company…read more They appear to value revenue over the safety and comfort of their customers. Due to hazardous weather conditions, the tour we were on should never have left the harbor. Not only were the ocean wave conditions reported by the coast guard to be clearly dangerous, the driving hard rain made the conditions completely unacceptable not only for safety reasons but for customer comfort. Despite my several attempts to point this out to the staff answering the phone one day prior to the tour as well as the captain of the boat prior to departure, they blocked my attempts to reschedule or refund the trip in spite of coast guard and national weather service small craft warnings, beach closures and other tour operators canceling their tours under the same conditions. After waves broke over the bow of this small craft, the captain aborted the tour and turned around. After an unusually leisurely return to the dock, I called and asked for a refund. Later we were told based on our return time, we had received the full tour and a refund would not be issued. After escalating our concern, a senior member of the company emailed us and said we would be issued a full refund. Over six weeks later they have still not issued us a refund. We had to file a dispute with our credit card company.

The guides took the tour out to the Captain Cook Monument, where the snorkeling was cool. The water was clear, the marine life plenty, and it ended up being one of the best snorkeling spots I've experienced. One tip: be sure to rent the flippers when you sign up. They made a huge difference and helped a lot in the water. They are not provided from the all in tour price. For the tour price you get the ride and snorkel mask with a floaty. They also rent life jackets if you need that. This tour is definitely geared toward people who are comfortable swimming and being on an open-air boat. If you're nervous in the water or can't swim or prefer a more relaxed boat ride, this isn't it. If you're looking for excitement, it's hard to beat. What really made the experience special were the crew members. Our captain and lifeguard were laid-back, friendly, and made everyone feel safe while keeping the atmosphere fun. The highlight for me was racing along the coastline at nearly 50 knots, bouncing across the waves and taking in incredible views of the island. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Think twice before booking with this company…read more I chose this excursion because it was shorter (2.5 hours) while still including snorkeling and a tour of the Captain Cook area. Unfortunately, the experience did not meet expectations. The first issue was the check-in process. The confirmation email tells guests where to meet but does not provide clear instructions on where to check in. Parking at this harbor is extremely limited, and Kona traffic can be very congested. Ironically, the company's own confirmation email emphasizes allowing a one-hour buffer before and after the tour and specifically advises guests not to schedule anything within an hour of the excursion. That warning exists for a reason. Despite everyone else arriving on time, our departure was delayed by nearly 30 minutes because the crew chose to wait for two guests who were stuck in traffic. As a result, every passenger who arrived as instructed lost approximately 30 minutes of a tour they had paid for while standing in the heat waiting. It felt unfair that those who planned accordingly were penalized because others did not. I expressed my irritation to the lifeguard assigned to our boat and was met with a dismissive response rather than an acknowledgment of the inconvenience. Once we finally departed, the captain welcomed everyone and said to let the crew know if we needed anything. During the safety briefing, I asked if my son could have some water. Instead of simply providing it or explaining when it would be available, I received a sarcastic response, and my son was not given any water. While the scenery and destination are beautiful, the customer service and handling of these situations left much to be desired. Better communication, adherence to the published schedule, and more respectful interactions with guests would have made for a much better experience.
