It's the best jerk seasoning for jerk pork/chicken/etc. In addition to groceries, you can fill your belly at their sandwich/soup/salad counter. You select the meat/cheese/veggies/condiments and bread, and they'll hook you up. I especially love the wide selection of salad items. Just point to what you want, they will up their mixing bowl and tossing up with your favorite dressing. All ingredients are high quality, fresh and delicious. I wish we had Pete's in NC!

When you walk into the store, the first thing you notice is all the British imported food and snack items.. Reminds me a lot of my childhood and I usually buy something for nostalgia sake. Right beyond that is beverage display case with all sorts of drinks you'd rarely see elsewhere. I especially enjoy their local and import ginger beer selection, as well as Ribena. Beyond that the store is a mixture of exotic cheeses, excellent produce, a deli, health food aisles and the British butchery. This butchery is especially known for its Nova Scotia lamb, which is the best I've bought anywhere around here. The beef steaks are a close second. Needless to say, due to the nature of the products sold here, the prices are exorbitant.. I keep Pete's as a treat to go buy a few luxury food items if I haven't entirely blown my food budget for the month. If my budget hasn't been blown yet, it's sure to be so once I'm done at the Frootique. While many of the items are quite unique, there are many food items that are..items which can be purchased at your regular grocery store for half the price (ie. many of the dairy products). I also think the space the store occupies is much too small... you constantly feel like you're in a traffic jam trying to navigate the narrowly jam packed aisles, and always a hair breadth away from knocking things over.. the store is so cramped, I picture knocking something over as having a domino effect.. dropped a bag of chips?...there goes the whole aisle. The check out staff are fast, friendly and on the ball with keeping registers open. I don't necessarily see this as good customer service, though... since the store is so cramped, if long lines were to form then customers in line to pay would take up half the retail space (I've seen this happen here more than once). I definitely recommend this place, though, even if just to window shop. You might discover something new on every visit.

The most prominent being their samosas. Oh, their samosas. Whether you're getting their chicken, veggie or feta/spinach, they are all good. The feta/spinach samosa is still relatively new but amazingly delicious. Some places (such as Coburg Coffee) offer it with hummus. Not a natural combination in my mind but it works so well. SOL (hmm.. not the best abbreviation) also provide a variety of paninis to cafes such as the Wired Monk. And, of course, baked goods like cookies. Hm... cookies. They apparently also make pizzas? I'm not as familiar with that. All in all, they make great food that you've probably already eaten and enjoyed.

The staff are very friendly and I had a good time chatting with them. The store is clean and well kept, and there is a really good variety of Russian groceries on the shelves, as well as some from Poland and Israel. There is also a frozen section including Russian ice cream and perogy dumplings, as well as a deli counter. The prices are good too, not too expensive. If you are wondering what to buy, I can recommend the Russian chocolates, which you can buy by the piece and are attractively wrapped in pretty papers. There is a whole wall devoted to Russian chocolates! Their baked goods and deli items also look delicious. They store has their own ovens and they do catering too. I understand it is hard to sell high-quality goods because it probably takes 4-6 months to ship them from Russia, but come on, how can you sell expired food, this is not Russia! A side of mac and cheese topped with Doritos (they have eight topping options!) was an indulgent addition to my meal, and that ooey-gooey cheese helped tame the spice of the soup. The noodles were supple and tender, and not at all mushy from sitting around in a warming tray all day like some spots. Conveniently, they also have a bunch of frozen soups to take home and keep for a rainy (re. too-lazy-to-cook) day. My wife and have tried several, including chicken and tomato bisque, potato and corn chowder, donair (!) and cream of mushroom, and the flavours are always fantastic! I had the half Ruben on rye with the tomato basil soup, I found the soup a bit salty but maybe its me because i dont use salt on anything. My youngest daughter had the corn chowder and the BLT, and enjoyed it very much. My other had the Beef and Barley and devoured every spoonful. I sampled all the soups and found filling and so tasty.
