Nothing much to say about this place except great selection of wines from all over the world. Price is reasonable and service is good.

Great selection of international alcohols. I would suggest on pursuing German beers even further and finally putting more Spaten Franziskaner into the fridge! Prices are not low, but not too expensive either. On top of that you get "moody" russian customer service which only adds a positive character to this place. Im a fan - 4 stars. read more

Liquor Barn runs an ad every Wednesday in the Chicago Tribune Food Guide. In small print at the bottom of the ad it states that ALL ITEMS ARE CASH AND CARRY. So, if you go in there with cash and expect to get the sale price, they will not give it to you unless you SPECIFICALLY TELL THEM YOU WANT THE CASH PRICE. I've been going in there regularly for the last 15+ years and always buy the same item and I have to tell them EACH AND EVERY TIME that I want the cash price. They have to know I'm going to call them on it!!! Update October 2013, saw a red wine I like advertised in their weekly ad, on sale for $10.99. Went into the store and the price listed was $16.99 which is what it rang up for at the register. I had to tell the girl that it was on sale so she pulled out the ad to verify and adjusted the price accordingly. You have to watch them like a hawk, because if you go in there thinking you're going to save a bunch of money, you'd better be paying close attention! read more

Wow is all I can say. Been shopping there for 4+ years and this was my last. Had two bottles of rum. I walked up and put them on counter. I said hang on a sec, I need to grab a bottle of whiskey. I started to turn around, and the woman behind the counter scolded me and told me to get a cart! I checked and there was still nobody in line except me. I said excuse me? She went on some rant about I should get a cart. I put my bottles back and said, now I have zero bottles, good bye. Time to go to the competitor down the street. read more

I am a wine enthusiast. I like to drink and collect wine. I recently ordered 2 - bottles of Joseph Phelps Insignia on line from Liquor Barn and was very disappointed. I pulled the bottles from their box and immediately noticed the "Liquor Barn" labels the store (chose to) put over the winery's label.This is something that is simply not done in the collectable wine world. It devalues the wines resale. I buy wines from all over and have for almost 20 years. I have never seen this done by anyone, until now. While I understand the store's need to mark their bottles for security and inventory control purposes I do not understand why they need to place their label over the wineries label. This was not a pop-n-pour bottle, this was Napa Valley blue chip with a 98 point Parker score. At nearly $200 per bottle I feel I should be able to expect better. I called the store that had shipped the wine and spoke with a sales girl. I did not get her name but wish that I had. When I told her that I had a problem with the bottles they had shipped to me she said that I should "Just enjoy the wine". She also made some ludicrous suggestions about how I might steam the label off (which would remove the winery's label as well) and then responded "My manager says your bottle is worth more now that it has a Liquor Barn label on it" (exact quote). I was offended by her insolent remarks and asked her for her mangers e-mail. Her response was "Do you have to contact him? He's really busy and he will just have me respond to you anyway" (exact quote). Making fun of someone when they are contacting you to complain is unprofessional and completely unacceptable. A manager who doesn't have time to deal with customer complaints shouldn't be a manager. By the way no one ever responded to my e-mail or attempted to contact me. I have never been treated with such total disregard by a wine store in all my years of collecting and will never do business with Liquor Barn again. The people at "Liquor Barn" should read some of these reviews. It's easy to see that customer service is not something they are known for. People who treat their customers as poorly as Liquor Barn should have no customers at all. Go elsewhere. P.S. This has nothing to do with coupons. read more

Stay away from their online shipping services. I placed an order for 6 different products and promptly received an email confirming my order. Wondering why I hadn't received any further communication like shipping information I contacted them 6 days later only to find out all 6 items were out of stock! I can accept that inventory cannot always be fully updated, but for all 6 items to be out of stock AND to not at the very least get an email from them updating me of this status was very poor customer service and business practice. The customer service agent was very rude and when I asked why I wasn't notified that my items weren't in stock, his reply was, "How are we supposed to know the status of over 30,000 different items?" WOW! 1. Because it's your business to know your inventory. You can't sell it if you don't have it. And 2, it took all of 15 seconds of a phone conversation for you to tell me it wasn't in stock so I suppose it's not that hard. What a shame. read more

OMG, I just couldn't beleive what I was seeing. There is a tall, blonde that works there as a cashier and I can't believe the owner of this place let this rude, bitchy person work there. I was standing in line waiting to check out. I watched as the blonde cashier snapped at a customer and rudely asked if the bag on the counter was hers. The customer said no and the cashier glared at her ans snatched the bag away. There was another customer in front of me so when he was signing the cardit card slip, she scowled at me to bring my 12 cases of Heineken up from the cart so she could scan. I couldn't do this because the gentleman was still trying to sign the slip and I didn't want to hurt him with the cart. I calmly said to her that I'm waiting for this gentleman to be done first before I could move forward with the cart. She glared at me. Wow. I'm in customer service too and I have never seen a cashier treat their customers this bad before. I will not be going back to Liquor Barn in Niles until this rude, blonde cashier is gone. Save yourself the aggravation and gas - don't bother going to this place. I'd rather pay more at a CVS nearby me than step foot at that place again! read more

Be very careful here. They are running a credit card fraud chain out of here. I love their selection but within 1 hour of spending $100 there, i had 15 fraudulent charge on my card in Chicago. And I had only used my card once in the last week, at the liquor barn! Unbelievable. Too bad because the selection is great. read more

I am a regular drinker of Smirnoff Vodka and buy it here regularly. Every Wednesday, the Liquor Barn runs an ad with their sales. But beware of the key words in the ad....... CASH AND CARRY. The owner has instructed the cashiers not to ring up the sales price unless the customer specifically requests the cash price. So, if you go in expecting to get a sales price, pay attention!!! As a regular customer, I get more and more annoyed every time when the same cashier rings up the regular price. Is she so stupid that she does not remember that I will remind her that it is on sale? I plan to go in on Saturday when they're busy, and if she does not ring up the Cash and Carry price, announce that I am sick and tired of their deceptive practices, and walk out of the store....... for good!!! read more

Extremely dissapointed!!! Usually go in to buy a Russian beer baltika 9. When not expired date code the beer tastes pretty good. That same day I bought a polish malt , just to try something new. Beer wastotally flat. turns out date code was passed by 1 year so I threw it out thinking I would get sick. I also bough a Warsteiner small keg which tasted a bit odd. The bottom of can revealed it had expired by 8 months. I used to go in there for beer varieties and good prices and never had issues, now Im done. I would have returned everyone of the items I bought but they am quite a way from my home. So much for the special trip to get good beer, NOT!!!!! My best advice would be check the datecode on ALL items you buy from this store. read more
