I had a bottle of Weller Special Reserve in my cart that I was waiting to buy until I knew when I'd be able to pick up. I received an email Saturday that they were offering it on sale at $35.99 that day only. Within less than a minute of getting the email, I went to my cart and the discount was not showing. I tried for a couple of days then reached out to them. They said that supposedly every bottle at that "limited price" had sold out within seconds of the email being sent. Came in last month to buy a few bottle I seen they had online. They didn't have them I was told I'd have to order it for pick up. I wish I knew that before the drive but that's not my biggest issue my true issue is I bought a bottle of Francan 25 year which was advertised to be on sale both on the website and in store. After the purchase I leave to return home and I noticed I was charged retail price NOT THE SALE PRICE! I contact the store the manager. He gives me his number, I send him the info he needs to reverse the charge. After a few weeks of being told he would have it fixed it never happened. I'll never return to this location now and suggest you yourself a favor a head ache and do business else or pay close attention to what they ring up. Not only are the prices at this place outrageously high, but their manager (Mr. G?) is extremely rude. Today I stopped in just to pick up some beer and cider for the weekend, and came upon a display of Anti-Hero 12 packs. I hadn't seen these before, so I picked one up. After the cashier couldn't find it in the system, she paged the manager who proceeded to accuse me of doing something wrong. "Where'd you get that?!" he demanded, as if I brought my own beer into the store from the outside, took it to the cashier and tried to pay for it. "We don't sell that here!" I couldn't help but laugh because there was a whole display of them. Mr. G didn't like that. "What are you laughing at? Is something funny?" The only thing funny is how ridiculous this place is. I'm a bourbon collector, I spend a lot of money on whiskey. Not the cheapest prices I've seen, but the selection of rarer items is what really makes this store stand out above Binnys and the liquor section of normal grocery stores. These unusual items are not always expensive -- for example, they carry nearly all the top bargain bourbons listed in the seriouseats list. They also have the Not Your Father's Rootbeer bombers, Not Your Mother's items, and other good but fairly inexpensive drinks. The selection of beer variety packs is impressive, with much better selections than what you'll find in a typical store (reminds me a lot of Woodman's) with very good prices everyday. This covers both domestic and imported beers. If you're looking for good craft soda, they also have a surprisingly complete selection at very reasonable prices. This includes many selections from the local soda companies near Chicago. If you live in this area or are looking for a more rare item -- definitely give liquor barn a visit for your beer, wine, and spirit needs. You won't leave disappointed. read more

Wow, this place was impressive with their inventory, extensive selections, and reasonable pricing.  I didn't spend a lot of time here on this first visit but did look through their vodka and bourbon selections and wandered the aisles a little.  I didn't even get to their craft beer.  I was in the area and specifically dropped in here for a bottle of their Beluga Russian vodka, which my tipster, the knowledgeable Pizza/Vodka Nancy L, informed me that they carried.  I was shocked to learn of this factoid.  I was first introduced to and really enjoyed this locally renowned vodka while in Moscow in 2013 (and I still remember that darned room spinning around my bed) and purchased and brought back a 750 ml bottle for $43 USD.  I thought I did good!  Back then and upon subsequent researching, I learned there was very limited USA distribution and I never looked again - 'til now, and here it is at Liquor Barn Wheeling, for $24.99 (and on sale to boot from their regular $30, in 2020!), yaay!  They have a very extensive vodka selection, and particularly Russian vodkas, presumably due to the local demographics up here.  Anyway, I could tell from some limited perusing that their brand selections are extensive across other products, not just vodkas, and some of the other Yelp reviews also confirm this.  BTW, upon checkout, the friendly clerk also threw in a complimentary 50 ml sampler of a Remy Martin 1738 Accord Royal cognac - nice touch and much appreciated!  Great store, and I shall definitely return sooner or later! read more

Went here on Saturday because it was slightly closer than the few other places that carry my father in law's favorite red wine, so my husband and I were excited to hit a new spot and check out the craft beers! We LOVE good craft beers, and they def have quite a selection. HOWEVER, I HATE STALE BEERS. We got a couple bottles of the wine, and decided to try a mix n match 6 pack of craft beers. We should have looked at our selections a bit closer- all 6 were stale tasting, some with "best by" dates from several months back. I mean, we should have looked at it closer, but we (wrongly) assumed a business would not sell stale beers. Really glad I didn't grab the cider I had been eyeing. *I understand this is a liquor store and not a craft beer locale, but I kinda just expected better.. My bad. read more

i ordered two cases of wine from the Wheeling, Illinois Liquor Barn on-line. They confirmed my order; but a week later they emailed me and said I have to send them a shipping label before they make shipment to me. I emailed them back to get hold of me so i could pay for another means of shipment. I also called several times to the store and also to the customer service number but i did not get anyone to answer the phone nor did I get a call back! Whenever we are in the area; we make sure we stop at the Liquor Barn to stock up. Their micro-brew beer selection is pretty amazing. This is where I come to get beer for my beer snob co-workers. I have patience for logistical difficulties during a pandemic, but not poor communications. This business has a broad and excellently curated selection. I will continue to shop with them, and recommend you do the same. Nonetheless, I have to call out their TERRIBLE communication and ZERO interest or capacity to make accommodations when they fall short. You place an order with them...then wait a number of days before getting a message saying the order has been received. Then about a week later you get an email saying the order has been shipped...but in reality all they have done is printed the FedEx label and not even boxed up your order, let alone provided it to FedEx. You won't receive it anywhere near within the estimate FedEx provides. When you eventually call them to ask about the status of your order, they tell you an item is back-ordered, and your order will likely ship...two weeks after **the notification you received saying the order had ALREADY shipped, and was already on its way. In terms of accommodation for saying an order had shipped, and needing to call about order status, they offered to substitute in an item I didn't want, or to ship the order without the backordered item. Those are **not** accommodations and not how capitalism works. I bought these items because I thought they were worth more than they cost. So not sending me something I want, or giving me my money back, defeats the purpose. I suggested that they ship me the part of my order that's ready now, and send me the back-ordered item (at their expense) when it came in, but they said no. I suggested they expedite the shipping once the back-ordered item came in, and they said no. All of this could have been avoided with better communication. An early email saying an item was back-ordered, apologizing, and asking how to proceed. *Not* sending an email saying an order had shipped, when it had not. I will continue to shop at this business, and I recommend you do the same. But I want to make sure the company knows where it's coming up short, so they can address the problems. And customers should know what they are getting themselves into--the company's policy is to get orders to folks within 30 days. People should just realize that 30 days is more of an estimate of actual delivery time than a worst-case scenario number. Clearly, COVID affects logistical operations. I could see if the warehouse was understaffed or running slow, and that led to delays. But what I experienced were communications issues, computer issues, that could be addressed by staff working from home. I think unfortunately, this is a corporate culture issue, where communicating clearly, accurately, and in a timely manner with customers is not adequately valued. I hope they make a change on this front because it would allow their organization to meet its full potential. read more

All I can say is that they are sneaky bad supplier and did not notify me as other online wine stores would, but instead sent me another vintage that I could have purchased elsewhere for much less. I appreciate their rare beer selection from around the world but the customer service at this place (and their Niles location) leave a lot to be desired. You are lucky if you go in and get a gruff cashier that barely acknowledges your presence when they ring up your sale. Then you have instances like today when a staffperson barks at me from like 15 feet away "you have a minute". I wasn't sure what he was saying or even if he was talking to me so I approached him and he repeats the same thing again. I nicely ask "oh, you are closing now?" and he laughs back at me and says yes. I tell him that he could have told me that more nicely (you know like "hi there, we are closing now so please wrap up your shopping"). He gets all up in my face as if he was going to fight me. I calmly told him to f*ck off and walked away. Instead of ignoring my foul language, he doubles down and tell me to f*ck off. Total customer service pro! read more

Ordered online. They charged my CC on the same day. 2 weeks later, as I didn't see any update to the online delivery status, I called their "customer service". Was told that an item was missing (our of the 4 ordered), but due to "human error" the status was not updated and I was not notified...but my CC was still charged!!!! I asked for a full refund and cancellation of the order. Next day, "customer service" emailed me that I need to confirm the cancellation, which I did right away. Minutes later I was informed that my order was shipped....so when I called I was told that given the order was shipped (as I was in the process of cancelling it!!!) I can't be reimbursed for another week or two!!! All in all, this is probably borderline CC fraud. They had use of my money (close to $ 200) for three weeks, and I still didn't receive a refund or the merchandise. Good news: there are lots of alternatives out there, cheaper, with real customer service, and better choices. Save your money, and more importantly, aggravation. read more

Noticed a week later that the order was still in process with no communication. Called them up and they took my information to research. They called back an hour later to tell me that they don't have it in stock and that they are waiting for a shipment in the future. It is rare that I feel as unappreciated as a paying customer than I did last night at Liquor Barn. We arrived at 7:00, the sign on the door (next to the now hiring sign, if anyone is looking for a job where being rude to customers is OK) said their closing time on NYE was 8:00. This gave us plenty of time to browse the aisles of beer and liquor ( they have a decent selection... this cannot be denied) . At approximately 7:25, the lights turned off and staff began walking up and down aisles saying "we're closed. Buy what you have or you have to leave". I checked my watch and asked why the sign said there was still 30 minutes before they closed. The employee rudely said "we want to have a new years eve too... come up and buy what you have or leave, I don't care". So i went to the front with only my 1 whisky in hand ( I had anticipated spending several hundred dollars...left spending only $40). I left severely disappointed and will not return again. read more

I was blown away at how much selection of every type of alcohol including imports they had. Even down to the luxardo cherries. Not to mention how helpful the staff was. This place was so huge and had so much stuff I had to be pointed in the right direction lol. And the staff was happy to do so. My delivery is in never never land via federal express. Today I called customer service and they told me that they are not responsible once it leaves their place. FedEx bears responsibility after that. They would not help me at all. They would not contact federal express; they weren't even interested in where the package might be. Just stopped by the new Liquor Barn, and all I can say is WOW. There are expansive aisles of liquors, wine, and beers not to mention an amazing cooler with plenty of craft kept cold. The staff let me do my shopping without feeling pressured to by something even though I did spend two hours in there They were there whenever I had a question about a particular product, and it seemed like they had a specialist in every department. The craft beer aisles are where I spent most of my time are amazing. Definetly the best selection in the area including Binnys. This is one store I will definetly be coming back to. read more
