Second visit - more time to explore and continually found new and interesting reasons to enjoy Essex County's seventh-largest park (I totally stole that tidbit from Wikipedia). Third visit - okay, okay - I'm officially smitten! A (small-ish) pond complete with locals fishing? Tennis and pickleball courts? Horseshoe pits? Bocce court? Paved trails (both in the main/open portion of the park as well as tucked-away under dense forest)? Baseball field (as a bonus - a group of kids always practicing cricket off to the side)? A tiny little spot consisting of parallel bars and (uneven) pull-up bars - for aspiring gymnasts or American Ninja contestants? An aqueduct (complete with a handful of little bridges to cross over) running throughout the entire park? A damn fine playground (with interesting and in-good-shape equipment) for kids (from 2 to 12 years old)? Plenty of tables (old-school picnic style as well as more modern/sleek)? Those clunky-but-sturdy BBQ grills that are drilled into the ground for you to use but can't take home with you? Rock cairns to find and admire while walking through along the tree-covered trail? A few strategically-placed water fountains to rehydrate and cool down? Plenty of Porta-Potties and trash receptacles (including freebie baggies so you can scoop up your pet's droppings)? A random deer (or doe) sighting in or near the park every single time I've visited? Yes! A resounding "yes!" to all of it.

Riker Hill is one of my favorite parks in Essex County because of its uniqueness. There also is a small community garden, as well as EV charge station at the top of the hill. It's not a destination park - unless you have a specific interest in visiting the studios or in Nike missile sites. However, it's a quaint park if you are local and want a quick fix of nature and views from the highest elevation points in Essex county.

An additional perk is how beneficial it is as a workout. Once around is nearly 2 miles. So it's good for a walk, run, or simply a seat near serenity. There's also an option to do paddle boats if you're into that type of activity. The pavilion is there (with seats) to provide some shade if the sun is beaming too brightly. Just an all around wonderful space snuggled between Turtle back zoo and McLoone's Boathouse restaurant. South Mountain reservation hiking trails are nearby as well. What a great central location! There is plenty of parking across the street from the entrance as well as a playground for kids.

It's where you see hometown baseball games and where Food Truck fundraisers are held. Local Carnivals and Fireworks are also held here. It's where you can go and get your cardio on while you walk/run around the Park. Just recently I found out that in the Summer and early Fall months they have a Farmer's Market on Mondays where you can buy fresh fruits and vegetables. Many local 'up and coming' Bands have community concerts here at the Park. This place is a very cool park to hang out and be one with this outstanding Town.

There are new picnic tables, benches, bochie ball(not sure I'm spelling this right) the fields are green and the fence is updated. This park is perfect for a daily stroll, watching your children play sports, climbing on the jungle gym, reading a good book in the shade or sun& having a nice romantic lunch with your other half. The event ran from 11 am-3pm and I arrived around 12. At that time the parking lot was full and I had to park in the supplimental lot across the street. Even the overflow lot required waiting for a parking space. No complaints about having to wait, it was just nice to see so many people concerned about environmental issues. I thought that this was a particularly well run event structured for all ages. Rutger's Master Gardeners had a tent set up and I had a chance to visit with some friends. A booth was set up by the Essex County Bee Keepers, as well. for younger adults, Turtle Back Zoo brought animals to show case, Mad Scientists performed demonstrations and ocean and rock fossils were on display. Face-painting, food trucks, live music, a eco-market, hands-on educational games for kids were some of the other activities. There are nature trails, canoe launches, a rock climbing tower and a Lenni Lenape village set-up to explore. The event was free to the public.

We were in the area for some work and had an hour in hand, I googled park near me and found this. what a great find it is! it was a cloudy day. not a very big park but I like small, cozy parks. it is offering something for everyone. The first thing that will hit you, is swan-shaped paddle boats (Essex County Paddle boat house) starting from $17. Excellent activity provides life vest, staffs are there to guide you, well maintained. Paved walkways that circle the lake (I did not complete it), looks really good. I even saw a toy train, not sure of the origin and end, but it's there and sure looks like fun. Playground: known to be one of the best playgrounds in the area. Covered Picnic area: you can bring your own food or get snacks from here (nominal charge). the area is neat and clean. Also nearby to McLoone's and the Safari mini-golf course.
