But then I fell in love with a house, and everything changed. My realtor had set up a home inspection with another company, but when I looked them up, I saw tons of negative reviews. I figured that this would possibly be the most important investment I could make; I am not equipped to deal with a house that has lots of hidden issues. After seeing all the positive reviews for this company, I switched over. I could not be more pleased that I did. Dana explained everything in great detail and in language I could understand, and he went through the house with a fine-toothed comb. This home is a renovation, and everything is brand new, so my realtor expected us to be done with the inspection fairly quickly. Dana spent more time than he had to, explaining things to me, telling me about things I'd need to think of in the future regarding owning a home, and taking pictures of everything so that I have a record of where things are and what they do. Working with him allieviated all of my fears around us missing something that would end up becoming a huge expense to me. I felt like I had a favorite uncle looking out for me and making sure that he was giving me the guidance I needed in a process that is totally unfamiliar and kind of scary. I plan to be in my new home for a long time, but if I ever do decide to go through this process again, he will absolutely be the one I hire as an inspector!

He arrived at the house before we did, and had filled out all of the necessary paperwork to get the inspection rolling the night before. The inspection itself was incredibly thorough, which was wonderful, because as we went through the house with Harold, it was clear that the house needed more work than we had thought when we made our offer. There were many problems (costly problems that also would have grown into health hazards) he pointed out to us -- but that had been concealed to the untrained eye. Harold emailed us an extremely detailed report later that night with pictures, and clear language and recommendations. I never felt like I was wondering if and when he would get back to me. He just did. When Evan shows up he is ready to go, his eyes are scanning. While his takes lithe steps to and fro reaching behind things and checking at the widgets, he is also asking questions that I probably should have asked the realtor. I learned soooo much. And this is not my first purchase just my first time using Evan as an inspector. Here's a tip: even though he is going to write everything up for you in an official report, bring a pen and paper and write down those little questions he brings up, cuz while you are busy looking at the sea glass backsplash, you need to ask the selling realtor some follow up questions, and if you don't write it down you might get distracted and forget...' what..wait... is that Italian marble in the master bath'?
