Rangers patrol and can answer questions. Parking is limited. They have not repaired any of the hurricane damages since before things were closed from Covid lockdown. Both good and bad! Less people are able to enjoy the park... but less is often better. Park is open from 5am to past sundown.

I don't know why the disconnect, but I am going to imagine that it is the result of many meetings and snippy letters back and forth over the course of a decade. But the park is here now and it's well maintained. A smooth concrete path through the center that leads to a large gazebo. Several benches throughout. The park is also bordered on the railroad side by a split rail fence. I would guess that there is music in the park on weekends. Perhaps Jazz Sunday and a farmer's market? There is a good-sized parking lot but on a busy beach day it can get full. The children's play area is new and in good repair. Close proximity to downtown Ocean Springs, so if you stay in the downtown area somewhere it is a only a short walk to the park and the beach. Highly recommended. This is a great place to spend some time and enjoy the beach.

They have a covered pavillion where you can have a picnic but no BBQ grills. They have trashcans for you and even have unlocked restrooms for you to use. Theres a sink to use to wash off dishes and they even have water fountains. Theres a basketball court also with 2 nets and theres 2 balls for you to use. Im even thinking about playing some street hockey on it one day. Theres plenty of grass to run around and they have benches all around the park to sit on and it offers plenty of natural shade from the huge trees. Overall nice little spot to chill at and soak up some nice weather!

The Mississippi Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1975 to safeguard the endangered Mississippi sandhill crane and its unique disappearing wet pine savanna habitat. The refuge consists of more than 19,000 acres in four units and is now part of the Gulf Coast National Wildlife Refuge Complex. The visitor center was closed when we arrived so we were unable to get a physical stamp but reached out and they mailed us one. At a National Wildlife Refuge, you can primarily engage in outdoor activities like birdwatching, wildlife photography, hiking, fishing, hunting (depending on regulations), and nature viewing while respecting the primary purpose of the refuge which is to conserve and protect wildlife and their habitats; many refuges also offer environmental education programs and guided tour possibilities are endless. Would know more if the visitor center was open so we took in the day and enjoyed watching the birds on this stop.

Not a great sunset this evening from Ocean Springs' Front Beach, compared to last night's from…read moreBiloxi's beach but it was still a lovely view of Biloxi Bay and the Biloxi Bay Bridge. Front Beach extends for about a mile from the Ocean Springs Pier to the Ocean Springs Yacht Club. The beach is smooth and quite flat with a firm sand and a slow slope that allows you to wade out quite a bit before it even gets up to waist level. Fort Maurepas Park is nearby with a playground and volleyball nets. There is parking there as well as parallel along the beach side of Front Beach Blvd. The beach is clean and free from litter.
