Absolutely love this neighborhood gem! The store is well stocked with adult, children, baby books. The staff is super knowledgeable and can help order items they may not have. The children's section is adorable with jellycats, toys, books, etc. its one of my favorite places to visit with my son. read more

This place caught my attention the minute I saw it. I love bookstores especially local paces that cater to the community and has even a big kid section downstairs. They have a range of genres and even a staff selection which I thought was very creative. They also have some seat around if you want to read and check out your books before puechasing. The pace was very calm, books are fairly priced for a local boo store and staff was attentive to help those around me. I would love to come stop by again! read more

I adore this this bookstore nestled on the corner in Hoboken. Although it is small they really have a good selection of books. If they don't have the book you need, they can typically order it. I had a book ordered and it took a little longer than normal but as soon as it came in, they notified me. I was able to pick it up promptly. I especially love their children's section in the back. I was surprised at the amount of children's books that were in the store that represents some other cultures. I've purchases quite a few books for my niece there. I always prefer going to a bookstore and thumbing through books vs ordering on line and this cozy bookstore is a good one to visit. read more

i love supporting indie bookstores, but every time i go there, the staff is so unfriendly. i don't need them to greet me or ask if i need help, but this last experience was terrible. when i went to the counter to purchase a book and ask if they have another book, the staff member rolled her eyes and was annoyed that i bothered her while she was reading a book. she wasn't happy that she had to stop reading and i get it...sometimes a book is that goodC but you're working at a bookstore and someone needs to check out. after that, i didn't even want to ask if i could order the 2nd book i wanted. this experience really turned me off and i won't be going back anymore. read more

Very unfriendly environment Whenever I come in, nobody smiles or asks if I need help finding anything.. it's almost as if they're doing me a favor by allowing me in. They also still uphold Draconian and senseless mask mandates for a "pandemic" that ended two years ago.. so, it's impossible to breathe while you browse. So I want to give this place five stars because it's adorable and has a wonderful selection. But I just can't because the staff is so awkward and so unfriendly it's strange. For example- I came in the day they opened after being closed since March due to Covid. I was so happy to see them again and I came in really friendly and excited to support them... I opened the door and the staff didn't even look up. Like really, guys? I've been back twice since because I really do want to support a small business, but both times it was the same thing- not even a hello or eye contact. It's sad they're so miserable because there are a ton of small businesses who wish they made it through Covid and would be really appreciative of someone walking through their doors. Little kids' annex has a HUGE selection of books and toys with some signed editions and a curatorial instinct that is both populist and activist. Same could be said of the main store for grown-ups and older kids, amazed how much wonderful and heterogenous stuff they pack in there. The cutest and coziest little bookstore in Hoboken. I came here one cold, snowy afternoon looking for a particular set of books. I assumed they would have the books due to them being new releases. The staff working here were easy to talk to and helpful with finding my books. Although the place is small, it's easy to get lost in their large selection of books. I definitely enjoyed my time here and am glad to support small book stores. I ended up buying two books. I will say that after buying my books, I looked online and of course they were half the price online than at the store. However, I would still come back and buy just to support small bookstores like this one. I don't know why, but as a reader it's so much more meaningful to go small bookstores and finding your book than buying online. I will definitely return. read more

This place is a gem. It is beautifully set-up, Well organized and has a wide variety of books. They have shelf-talkers set up, with synopses of different books in each section, a staff-recommendations spot, and clearly labeled sections. The different display tables represented a wide variety of interests and was an overall pleasant way to shop. The employees were friendly and happy to chat about what they were currently reading. Little City Books has a ton of children's books and I'm sure they do well with this section, however, I find that the rest of the store offers an uninspiring selection of reading material. I love little bookstores. Especially, bookstores that have a variety of speaking engagements. As an indie publisher, I am always looking for local stores capable of showcasing authors and their work. This one places wonderful little hand-made / hand-drawn post-its all over the store. They recently as I understand, added a children's book annex in the rear of the store. It is small and quaint but large enough it is almost a separate store on its own. My children had a mini-vacation roaming the unusually setup aisles and shelves and were easily introduced to works they might not have seen otherwise. I recently attended a speaking engagement and went early because, at first glance, I had no expectation that this small location could hold more than a few people. I was surprised to see how easily they were able to seat 50+ patrons. I've picked up a few books from this location and while I don't expect lower prices at a small store like this, as opposed to buying from Amazon or Barnes and Noble, the ambiance, the light airy feel, the well-curated collections, and their commitment to authors and independent publishers won me over. My wife has her office nearby so this store location is becoming a weekly treat for my daughters. To be thorough, the location can work on providing more variety for adult fiction across all categories. There is also no place to sit normally and no coffee shop interred within. Making it more of a stop and shop as opposed to a browse, sit, and sip. But that's a personal gripe and not necessarily a bad thing. read more

I wish this bookstore was as warm as it appears from the outside. Walking in, I felt as if I was walking into a funeral parlor. A little music, guys (some moody jazz--I'll even settle for Kenny G and I hate him!)--you know, Xmas season and all that! Now is the time when we need holiday cheer more than ever. I was so looking forward to visiting this bookstore, as it is one of the few in the Jersey city/hoboken area. As a wheelchair user I sadly found out that it wasn't accessible. It was very disappointing as they would have only had to place a very small ramp over the 4 inch step, but they did not bother. Luckily there was a privately owned bookstore further down which made the effort and ramped not only the front door but to the next level as well. PLEASE REMOVE the statement that you are accessible, and not waste peoples time. Or, novel idea. Put a ramp in. read more

No used book section, which always saddens me, and the prices reflect the list price on the covers, which is what I was expecting. Friendly staff and the space is nice, but paying list price for physical books in 2017 is not for me. read more

It's so nice to see a new local business open up in Hoboken rather than the chains that have been taking over. Especially when it's such a great local business. I came in with low expectations the night before I was heading out of town, in a somewhat desperate attempt to buy a few gifts for a friend's very young kids. To my surprise, I was greeted by a thoughtful and rather large (given the small space) selection of children's books. I even found the Spanish translation of Are You My Mother?, which was a really nice bonus. The prices were also completely fair. I left with 3 books and a feeling of gratitude for high quality, local brick-and-mortar stores. Also, I didn't end up buying any, but the store had some really cool onesies and tshirts with classic book covers on them -- think Madeleine, the Little Prince, Where the Wild Things Are, etc. Those would also make great gifts. I am so, so happy that this store opened up. The staff members are wonderful, friendly, and full of good advice. The selection is wonderfully curated -- there's not a bad book to be found, but plenty you've been meaning to read or that your friends told you to check out. They also have great cards and other literary trinkets. And if they don't have a title you're looking for, they can order it for you quickly. The book groups are full of smart, interesting people, and so far have been all focused on great choices. They also hold readings and other events. Spend your money here, not online! I really love that there is a local bookstore nearby. The staff is very sweet and friendly. My only complaint is their archaic return and exchange policies. It would be great if they could update their system and expand their return dates. I returned a book that I bought for my nephew and they gave me a store credit in the form of the end of the receipt. Naturally I misplaced it so I couldn't use it to wards the purchase of a book I'd like. That process makes me very wary of buying something again esp if it's a gift.
