So much to see in Posman Books (so many temptations for impulse purchases)! I came in just to browse, but I really wanted to purchase the entire store. They have a huge selection of books, little trinkets, and other items too! Sonny Angels have been all the hype on TikTok, and I never thought I would become part of the bandwagon, but seeing them all on display got me. I ended up leaving with one of them. I really wanted to get a Jellycat too but resisted the urge. Posman Books is a great place to spend some time when walking around Chelsea Market. read more

TLDR; Interesting location, but no genre/topic separation at all, overwhelmingly fiction content, and average customer service. Inside the Chelsea Market, definitely a stand out business in a place filled with mostly food! Let's chop it up and talk about the details, but I'll keep it simple: Pros: - Cool placement of a bookstore that you wouldn't expect - Clean store with a nice vintage aesthetic - Stationary goods to wrap your books in for gift giving - The staff were a chill vibe. Not super accommodating like a 5-Star business in LA, but I wasn't expecting or needing that. They also weren't irritated and negative. Now the cons: - The biggest one, is no clear indication of theme or genre. I might be basic in this regard, but I have an opinion that bookstores should at least guide me to the type of content I want to digest. This store literally had no signs indicating where one section begins, or ends so you kind of have to just use your eyes and scan through books. - Lack of variety on books. I feel as if the content they had contained an overwhelming amount of Fiction literature, with some kids books included, and not really anything outside of that. I'm personally into things like History, Art, Film, Music, Instructionals, Self-Help, Nutrition, Psychology, etc and I really couldn't pinpoint where any of those books were. - I feel like finding staff was few and far between, mostly helping with the busy register. Their outfits didn't make them stand out so I wouldn't have been sure who to ask questions to, and I never had anyone ask me if I needed help. So this effectively made my book store experience just a free-for-all and a scavenger hunt for genres I was interested in. Would I go back here? Honestly not at the moment, but it was a cool vibe to bounce in and out of after grabbing a bite to eat. If you lowkey want to just accidentally bump into a book you wouldn't usually think about choosing, then this spot could be for you, it just isn't for my personality type! read more

I am a self proclaimed bookworm and I'm on a quest to visit as many bookstores as I can to see what they offer. You would think that I actually visited Chelsea market in search for food but I literally came here for the books. Posman bookstore is a small indie bookstore in its corner of Chelsea market. Not only do they offer books but for bookworms like me we love to buy bookish things such as pins, bookmarks, mugs and bags to carry the loads of books we have. It clear to see that this bookstore offers us all those options. You can find a verity of pins along the walls, mugs and bottles and of course a variety of books. The front section is east to figure out because all books that are alike are grouped together. Memoirs, cook books and own voices novels each live on their own table but the back well isn't labeled so it makes it hard to find what you may be looking for. There not much staff around but I didn't mind it because I like to browse in piece. My favorite thing about this store was the niche merch I haven't seen in other bookstores and I will be back. Visited the store at 7:45 pm and they were still turning away the customers even though it was open till 8:00 pm. The sales associate at the door was extremely rude and even though when we mentioned that we'd take a quick scan and visited from another country. She said come back tomorrow and rudely turned the other way. A very disappointing experience for an outside visitor coming to New York. Poor customer service and not reflective of USA's good customer service and business etiquettes. Wish there was zero star rating! This bookstore is located inside Chelsea Market and I'm sure others may find it interesting. In my experience unfortunately, it was a total fail. How can you "own a bookstore" and not have a religion section? That's the lamest thing I've ever heard of! It's like going to a library and not finding a science section. I mean at least make an attempt and put out 3 books on religion or something. I mean something is better than nothing... people! In this store you'll find pretty much everything else, even silly knick knacks, toys, games and other (non essentials) that are non book related. Posman Books is a dream come true for bookworms, stationery addicts, and lovers of all things cute. If you fall into any of those three categories, then you are certainly going to find something you love here. The bookstore offers a unique selection of books and gifts not found elsewhere. During my last visit, I discovered the Penguin Threads Series. Classical books like Little Women had beautifully embossed and textured covers designed to look hand stitched. All I could think of was how great (and pricey) it would be to own the entire collection. What a great collectable for fans of these classics though! I also love their greeting cards and can always count on Posman Books for unique and clever cards to send to loved ones. Prices are a bit steep here, and you can probably find the same items online for a lower price if you do some digging. This Posman Books sits inside Chelsea Market. I've always taken an interest for my liking of Posman Books' travel section especially their good choice, amid small, for journals and notebooks. Their journals and notebooks are close to my style for the good heavy weight paper of a bound book. Albeit, I have always find Moleskine notebooks practical and simple but rather unattractive and lack style to make a bold statement. As a poet, a journal writer and active Yelper it is imperative that I write. Overall price stand from dollars to bankrupt prices for books at Posman. What an adorable bookstore in Chelsea Market! Posman Books isn't a large store, yet the selection is wonderful. They have such a great collection of books and gifts that I could've just spent so much darn money and time here! I particularly was impressed with the books, featuring New York sites and attractions and even cookbooks from local New York chefs. They also had a lot of eclectic and funny books that you totally do not need but do! In addition to the great books they sell, there are a ton of small toys, stationary, knick-knacks and holiday decorations! I'll admit it - I stocked up on Gemma Correll magnets, just because it featured pugs! I also learned that they sell stamps, as another customer who was visiting New York was sending postcards to her friends so the cashier asked her if she needed stamps. Bam! Since graduating college 4 years ago (wow it's been a long time) I've become somewhat of an avid reader. Sitting in front of a computer screen all day and working for a .com doesn't really help that considering they encourage internet use. So, I spend most of my day reading the internet. Blogs, news, twitter, facebook, e-mail etc either on my computer or if I'm away from my desk on my iPhone. In other words, I'm CONSTANTLY connected and constantly reading. I've grown to love reading more than watching T.V. which aside from episodes of Modern Family has become background noise for me. However, I sometimes get sick of reading the screen and my eyes crave the crisp pages of a good book. This brings me to Posman. I'm really lucky to have Posman books located right downstairs in the Chelsea Market where I work. I've grown a bit adverse to big book superstores like Barnes & Nobles and Borders. Posman, especially their Chelsea Market boutique shop is a perfect alternative. Though small they stock all the top best sellers and have a through section in the back of classics and just all around great books to read. Even for kids. They even have some novelty books which makes just browsing a lot of fun. Posman is a hidden gem in the Chelsea Market. Tucked all the way in the back of the market on the right across from Sarabeth's bakery it's a great little reading surprise. Some of these cards I've seen at other boutique-y stationary stores in the city, but a lot were new to me. You can find a beautiful card for any ocassion! This place is more than just books. They have a wide variety of cards and calendars too. Of course there is a NYC theme to a lot of these items, but they also have other non-NYC beauties too. I purchased a card from here designed by one of my favorite card companies located in Florida of all places. I chose it as a souvenir of my time in Chelsea Market, and I framed it to go on my gallery wall in my living room. Decently priced, gorgeous, and easy to fit in a carry-on bag! read more

Despite not buying any books because I'm lacking in funds, this place never fails to put a smile on my face. As an avid bookworm, I love the books that surrounds me. Although this place isn't big, it does offer a selection for everybody (in my humble opinion and if it doesn't, GASP). So not impressed! The selection of items is good, but the service stinks! If you enjoy being made to felt like you are a bother then by all means frequent this place, but if you enjoy good customer service this is not the place for you. Maybe I just caught the salesgirl on the wrong day but she needs to remember that she wouldn't be collecting a paycheck if it weren't for the bothersome customers spending their money in this store. This is a pretty standard bookstore with a wide range of adult and children's book. I also enjoyed the collection of greetings cards, journal and other odds and ends that you hope to find in a bookstore. There are a lot of tourists here as it's located inside of Chelsea Market and there is no real room for sitting and browsing or doing some work. Also no drinks or snacks available which makes sense given its location. I prefer a quieter lounge type of bookstore but appreciated the current selections and the decor and layout was appealing. Check it out if you're in the neighborhood and need a good book to read. Just make sure you have somewhere to go with your book afterwards. read more

I love a good bookshop and Posman always has an interesting selection of books. It's in Chelsea Market so it's always packed and a lot of the books here are obviously aimed at out of town tourists (books about NYC, cookbooks from NY Chefs etc) but they have some interesting fiction and coffee table type books as well. As well as books they have an excellent selection of cards, calendars, and small gifts. I don't know how there aren't more reviews for this awesome place, but all the more reason for me to write one :) I came here on 2 occasions and both times we just spent what seemed like hours (or at LEAST an hour) browsing and looking at EVERYTHING. I feel like someone had taken all the GOOD parts of Barnes & Noble and just threw them together in this book store in the most cozy and hipster-y way (if those 2 adjectives even go in a sentence together). Pricing is no more than what you would see at regular bookstore, but if you favor the Amazon, then this isn't the place for juu. Besides the cute cards and calendars and toys and notebooks (Moleskine!) there is also a mini kids section in the back (which was surprisingly entertaining for us). For our grp of 6 friends each with different hobbies and areas of expertise, there was literally something for everybody, if not more- such as comics for the geeks, fashion books for the fashionista, cutesy books for the child at heart, cook book for the foodies and fatties, and joke books for the douches. It even covered all of our different job types like architecture, designing, music, financing, and 2 of us are unemployed, but you get the point. The atmosphere here is just very warm and fun, I wish there was a branch closer to home. Til then, I'll be back for you, Posman Books. Must See* cards section. I'd visited Posman's Grand Central location many times over the years and I really liked that store, so I was very disappointed when it closed. I feel rather guilty giving this location only three stars, but I went there yesterday (for the first time) and I just couldn't get too enthused about the store. The long-time workers from the GCT store weren't present and the people working there didn't seem real friendly or very enthused. Also, the selection wasn't as good - and admittedly it seems to be a smaller space than at GCT, so perhaps that's part of the problem. read more

I didn't come here for the books, because uhhh, I don't really read (except Yelp reviews, of course)! I did come here in search for long overdue Thank You cards. I had searched quite a number of places between DC and NY, and I finally made a purchase at this store. The cards I chose weren't life changing, (they were letterpress) but I would say they were simple, yet elegant. It's possible that I may also have guilt tripped myself into purchasing cards here. Their card selection was very large, and I spent a lot of time looking at each and every card. If I couldn't find a Thank You card here, the problem is probably me and not the cards.... I would definitely return here if I happened to be in NY again when I needed a card, but don't really have another reason beyond that to return. read more

Apparently, there are a lot of March birthdays in my pool of family and friends. Who knew that I know so many Aries and Pisces folks?! Well, I do and I am a fan of giving awesome, cool, and spunky birthday cards. The fact that five out of the six current reviews mention their wonderful card selection, I know it is no longer a secret. Seriously, you can find a card for just about anyone. Apart from cards, Posman carries the more popular books and has a lovely little children's book section. If you know me, I am a fan of children's books...and they do have a pretty good variety. However, their selection of coloring books is lacking. Other random things you will find: + Pens with alleged seven-year lifespan + Cute magnets + Mad Libs. Don't act like you don't know. :) + A decent selection of the Little Miss and Mr. Men book series P.S. Posman Books is located at the very end of the Chelsea Market. As the holidays approach us I thought it may be prudent to finalize a timely review of Posman Books - this store, while containing a great selection, has terrible service and incompetent staff. The location is always so packed you can barely move, and good luck if you're interested in returning a book. I brought back a book which I had received two copies of as a gift and they wouldn't take the return (with a gift receipt) and then, after much cajoling, offered store credit (I live out of state) in the form of a receipt (can't even offer a gift car). So disappointed in this place, a complete nightmare for holiday shopping, will continue to avoid at all costs. read more

When I asked for help I was given a rude attitude vibe from the girl on the floor such as "Dammit I have to Help You" and don't get me started on the cash register girl. This is a really cute bookstore near the end of Chelsea Market. They have really cute cards, stationery, pencil cases, lunch bags, stickers, pins, some stuffed animals and kids stuff, bags, calendars, and, most importantly, books! Their books are priced like any other bookstore selling new books, but the covers on some of the classic literature selections were really artsy and cool and I have never seen covers like that. I don't know if it's New York in general with different book covers or this bookstore in particular, but they were nice. They also sell some used books near the end of the store at reasonable prices. I bought some pins here for my boyfriend and I (they were $1 each!) and a cute NY sticker ($4, but not a bad price for the design I got). The cashiers were pretty nice. They were curt, but friendly, especially after I bought some pins and asked if it was okay to keep shopping with them in my purse. They were totally fine with it. read more

Great place to find any kind of card for every personality. They have books and toys and random stuff in here. I think the prices are steeper than Hallmark(minus one star), but it earns stars for originality and creativity. There are great handmade gifts hidden in here.
