There are so many activities and attractions nearby for everyone. There are so many different well marked hiking trails with different lengths and everyone can hike based on their own skill levels. The rangers and park officers are very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. They gave us very detailed information about the trails. Definitely recommended to other people and will come back in the near future.

Several memorial benches are around to sit on while viewing the river and local wildlife which includes blue Herron and Loons if you're lucky.

My wife and I came here as part of a day trip we were planning. There isn't much parking (I think…read moreabout six spots total) and not many other places to park if they are full (the next door park also only has about six spots). It is a cute little place with some benches, access to the water and a tiny rock beach, and views of the lighthouse. But, there isn't much to do here. I didn't see any educational displays about the lighthouse. It is a cute place to spend a couple of minutes, but unless you want a nap next to the water you will become bored pretty quick. It is carry in, carry out.

Well well, Norrie State Park was the first discovery for me when I was on a field trip during my…read morehigh school career when we visited the Norrie Point Environmental Center. This review is going toward the hiking me and my friend experienced, and it was a good one. We parked at the closet entrance, which is on the left. We took the blue trail which is 4.59 miles to exist (making it the longest trail). Some of the markers along the way are not clearly marked as we ended up going the wrong way, making it confusing. One of the blue markers on a tree was facing at the wrong angle. We then figured it out later on thankfully, as we saw the marker up ahead. With me being good with maps and getting around, we ended up going off the path onto the main road to the Hudson River close up. There are a couple of spaces for parking. We got back on the blue trail as it did a big loop and got on the red trail for a bit, until reaching the main road and followed that to the parking lot where we parked. There are multiple trails along the way to take in, as the white trail, according to the map follows the river, which looks appealing. That will be for another visit. To keep life simple, there should be more maps provided along with updated signage for trail colors, which will then bring up my rating.

"Easy" in terms of difficulty, this trail starts off on an…read moreeasy 1/4-mile walk down a meandering crushed-gravel path to a wooden gazebo, then down some grassy hills to the Hudson River "lookout" point. From there, you can venture into the woods for a 3/4 to a mile "easy hike" surrounded by trees, trickling stream & a few furry animals, like squirrels & chipmunks, collecting acorns. Kid friendly, this is a great walk/hike for the whole family.

The trailhead for the Stockport-Greenport trail is directly across Rod and Gun Road from Harrier…read moreHill. There's a wooden frame to mark it. This is a roughly 2 mile trail which leads directly to the trails of Greenport Conservation area. The first part of the trail is the wide mown open field with the sun beating down on you type path that I've come to dread this summer:) There will be a fork, take the right hand path into the forest. It's only in the forest for a bit then back to open fields. You'll cross Rod and Gun road and continue on the mown path. This grass path will dead end, take the right hand path again. There are no markers at this point telling you to do so, I just went by the map. I did see a few blue ribbons tied to tall grass later on. When this path becomes a forest path, it is well marked with blue flares. This is where the hike really gets good(and sweetly shaded and breezy too.) There are lovely bridges, board walkways, winding paths near the edge of a wooded ravine. The place I stopped even had a couple of small waterfalls(the bugs were formidable here!) My hike ended up being about 5 miles out and back, but you could make it longer especially if you continue on the red trail at Greenport. I do wish there were loops rather than out and back and that the correct paths to take were better marked at the beginning but the jaw dropping sun dappled beauty of the forest paths makes up for it.

To be honest, anything involving a train will likely get a high rating from me. That bias out of…read morethe way, we came here not looking for railroad tracks but instead a nice walk along the water. We parked by the rotary club's entrance and walked in with our dog to find a nice (but seemingly abandoned) picnic grounds with plenty of tables, a couple of grills, and well maintained lawns that would be lovely to watch the water while eating. It was a Saturday during labor day weekend.... where was everybody? Then, we met up with the trail and wandered along an old railroad right-of-way which is still used by the Trolley Museum at the end of the tracks. There was plenty of walking space along most of the trail, and it included vistas along a rocky water's edge, a tromp through some wooded areas, and open spaces adjacent to a marsh. And a lighthouse too! All in the span of about a 20 minute walk. Not bad, eh? And, a trolley went by whilst we were taking it in. I don't know where the trail officially ends (we didn't go as far as downtown Kingston) but we did stop by an electrical substation, near a canal or waterway inlet. Honestly, there are probably better walking trails around if you just want to see the river. But, this one happened to combine a decent trail with a passion of mine... trains. It is hard to think of a better place to get some exercise, see some boats and birds, and catch a cute little trolley rumble by.
