My boyfriend and I stopped at Pure Kitchen in Kanata before going to a game at Canadian Tire Centre…read more(because sadly nothing is near the arena). It's not all vegan, but our server told us that except for cheese in some dishes, the menu was pretty much all vegan. Unfortunately, they're also doing away with mocktail mixers, but I was able to get a nice mocktail. My boyfriend ordered the "Cheerful," a take on a TLT, while I decided to order a crunch wrap filled with Beyond crumbles, pico, and other fillings. It's clearly a take on the fast food place with the bell. We both decided to get the belle poutine. I tried a bite of the TLT, which was sort of a pita pocket, and it was pretty good. I liked my crunch wrap, but it got cold very quickly. I sadly was not a fan of the poutine, which was a vegan cheezy sauce and gravy rather than curds, and there wasn't enough gravy. For a casual place, the price points seemed a bit high. Still, if I'm in Ottawa again, I'll go to a Pure Kitchen (there happens to be on in the neighborhood where our hotel is), but I'll get regular fries instead.

My daughter and I were in Almonte for the Christmas Market, and wanted a quick lunch. We spotted…read morethis little place as we were coming out of the market venue and thought "why not". In we went. I am so glad we did this. It's very unassuming on the outside. Inside it's charming - while aspects of the tea room / restaurant are clearly made with current-day materials, you get the charm of past days with the china, real tea pots and display cases. It's very cute, the tea is excellent and it's a lovely spot to stop by as the days get colder. Like the decor, the food is also, in some ways current day like the rather modern special of the day (a bowl of rise with deliciously spiced chicken and bites of potato). But in other ways it harkens back to older ways with their delicious fresh baked goodies. One thing I appreciated: the servings were right-sized and the prices reflected it. Lunch for 2 with tea, dessert and a 20% tip (service was excellent) was around what I'd pay at a chain for a single meal alone.

On the recommendation of a young girl that we encountered en route to Almonte we decided to try this place with "great pies". It was so much more than that. Charming, quaint and friendly are words that come to mind. The owner and staff were funny and warm and their offerings were world class! We enjoyed fresh, handmade quiche, soup, salads and pie & cake that were to die for. My wife had the decadent butterscotch pie with 20 inches of merengue (slightly exaggerated) and I had THE BEST piece of carrot cake on Earth (no exaggeration). While dining we took up a conversation with a couple of locals who eventually took us on a tour of the town and even welcomed us into their home for a glass of wine. Truly a wonderful day.

Also support local We got 1 strawberry sundae + 1 chocolate sundae (unfortunately that one didn't make the cuts since we devoured that within seconds). The vanilla soft serve is SO incredibly good?!! Like wow. It's super soft and creamy- miles better than DQ. The young lady at the window was also super sweet and friendly! They also have a patio section with a few tables and benches & lots of variety on their menu! Do note that their sundaes come in only 1 size (which is pretty decent! Not too small and not too big, leaving you feel guilty afterwards. It's just the right size!) I will definitely be back to try their razzles next time since I've heard great things about it

Brett's Ice Cream is a little ice cream shop in Kanata. It's been around since 2013 but I only…read morelearned of it recently. It's a little shop with basically just a window where you order. It's a strip mall with an auto body shop. Not the most picturesque or romantic place, but the ice cream is good. You pretty much need to eat it in the parking lot (there are a few benches) or in your car. My husband and I went during the Phase 2 re-opening amidst the Covid-19 Pandemic, but I don't think they had to change their practices much because they were always takeout only with no place to sit and eat. There was absolutely no line up when we went on a Sunday afternoon in June. My husband is a traditionalist so he got a medium chocolate vanilla swirl in a waffle cone. It was $3.25 for a medium and an additional $0.75 for the waffle cone. I wanted to try their flavour burst which is flavour swirled into the ice cream in unique way (see photos). I got a small vanilla cone with cherry flavour burst. It was $2.25 for the small cone plus an additional $1 for the flavour burst. I enjoyed my cone. The ice cream was creamy and the flavour burst added a nice black cherry flavour to the cone. It wasn't too overwhelmingly sweet which was nice. I really want to try the Pina Colada flavour burst next time. Note that they only have soft serve ice cream. No hard/scoop ice cream. They do have milkshakes, slushies, slushie floats, sundaes, and Razzles, which are like Dairy Queen Blizzards or Mc Donald's McFlurries. Service was quick and courteous. I'm a huge fan. It's a bit of a trek to get to Kanata for me, but I would come back if I was in the area or planning to so other things in the area. Free parking in the parking lot that is shared with the auto shop.
