This library is located right across from Dallas City hall, so it's very centrally located. This library is really big, with 8 floors in all. It's one of the largest libraries in the nation. The staff were incredibly informative and helpful in sharing what was interesting about the library with us. They gave us a self guided tour pamphlet which shows the specialty of each floor. Impressively, they have a Genealogy Research department on the 8th floor, "bringing the past in the present with powerful research tools and digitization services"and a large collection handwoven Navajo blankets on the first floor. The 7th floor displayed Shakespeare's First Folio (1963) in a glass case. "Shakespeare's great plays were rescued from obscurity to be published in the 1623 First Folio" On the same floor, there is the Declaration of Independence (July 4, 1776.). You can see one of only 25 surviving copies. "The first time that the name "United States of America" appeared in print". Overall, it was lovely to see a library bringing the community together and being inclusive of all people who visit. They also conveniently have free underground parking. Definitely worth a visit, to see the Declaration of Independence (July 4, 1776) and Shakespeare's First Folio 1623 on the 7th floor.

There were people bathing in the restrooms, dogs throughout the building, and an overall atmosphere that felt chaotic and poorly maintained. For a major city like Dallas, I would expect a public library to be a place residents can feel proud of and comfortable visiting. I really appreciate that because our trip to the library is usually hurried and we need to find good books fast. The librarians always help us find the books we are looking for. Don't miss out on their app, Cloud Library, that lets you borrow e-books and audio books. We use the self-checkout every time and it's really fast and easy. You can even scan your library card barcode on the library app. The library also has a number of private rooms you can borrow.

The exterior is modern and funky with eco-friendly xeriscape landscaping and a huge (ha-yuge!) parking lot. The interior is absolutely gorgeous. It's bright, warm, friendly, and inviting, everything the old branch wasn't. They even saved part of the old YMCA building and worked it into the new design. Thrifty! I still absolutely love having the ability to set up an online queue and have a nonstop reading list at my disposal. No more driving all over Dallas, hitting whatever branch happens to have the book I want. And the only way the pickup could be easier is if someone delivered the books to my house. You go to the bookshelf that holds all the requests and grab your books, then you either check out at the front desk or...wait for it...you use one of the two self-check kiosks! I can be in and out in less than 2 minutes. (TWHS!) There are meeting rooms, quiet study rooms, and I hear there's a theater even though I haven't seen it myself. There are at least 20 computers and a ton of desks and chairs scattered throughout the entire building. There are also numerous electrical outlets if you need to plug in a laptop. The after-hours book drop was a little hard to find at first, but I finally figured out it's on the back side of the building (facing Marchant Circle). You can now drop books off without even getting out of your car. I've always been a huge supporter of libraries and I couldn't be happier with how my tax dollars were spent on this branch.

I love the reference rooms and the reference librarians. Both David and Jane know the answers to anything and everything and are happy to help. They are willing to read over your papers and submit edits, which makes a huge difference when professors are picky about citations and footnotes. Bridwell is one of the main reasons why I chose to attend Perkins School of Theology and move to Dallas, Texas. This is a library that you must visit if you ever find yourself on SMU's campus.

They've got really nice tables, with comfortable chairs in a magnificent setting, right in the heart of the SMU campus. This is a theology library, so don't expect any copies of Green Eggs and Ham, or the latest Stephen King thriller. Their collection is large, deep, and historical. Get this- they actually have a copy of the Gutenburg Bible here, arguably one of the rarest and most valuable books in existence. I've tried to order it at my local library via an Interlibrary Loan, but got rejected. They let you look at it, but want to be there to show it off with white gloves. They provide you with any items to take notes with. It's really quite exquisite and beautiful. This is a great place to do some research on theology, and to post up for exams. You're not going to get bothered here, it's quiet. Downstairs, be sure to check out the mechanical bookshelves, which move with a push of a button. Swanky!

A Christmas tree made of books. Yes, I did say books! It was truly a moment of whimsy and warmth. Comfortable furniture with enough space that many different people could feel secure and comfortable while visiting, reading, or working. And the staff was truly kind. They smiled at everyone who entered and engaged with us in a way that made you feel seen. Now, for the part that touched my heart the most... people between homes gathered in this beautiful library. Respectfully, humbly, and with ease. Everyone in the building felt like they belonged. Everyone felt comfortable. We all felt each other's presence and it was an easy presence.

Shoot, I just figured out where the durn thing was last weekend when I went for a bike ride! So I put on my Mom Shorts and pink helmet and hit the road. I also made sure to pack "proof of my address" and a driver's license. Unfortunately, libraries are sticklers about this. But if you're a resident of Dallas, it's free! Didja hear me?? FREEEE! My Lakewood Branch is just fabulous. Sometimes, librarians can be mean. I dunno why, my own mother is one, I guess they just get embittered that no one reads anymore and children are obese Wii-playing brats. But these ladies were nice. There was an interesting selection of DVDs, that's for sure. The entire series of "The Waltons" was there...you can betcha I'll be hitting that one up! Also three copies of the Pamela Anderson and Denise Richards classic, "Blonde and Blonder." I actually almost rented that, but realized there are so many quality films out there that I simply can't waste my time with such drivel. So I rented The Quiet Man, The Flamingo Kid, and The Big Easy. Love my Dennis Quaid! Book-wise, I settled on Leonard Nemoy's son's memoir. It's all about his addiction and alcoholism. I can't wait! Missed Mustang Day and showed up for information for a self-guided tour…read more Not only did we get maps, prospective student swag, and a map, but we got an awesome introduction. An admissions team member came out and basically gave us the tour on a map while outlining our walk. Seriously. She spent a solid 30-45 minutes with us and gave us food for thought (comparing TCU and SMU). Campus folks were friendly too as we were wandering. Very impressed by libraries, museums, and construction on the business school.

I had missed turning into the parking lot across from the museum and went around the block. I'm so glad that I did. After my visit to the museum, I did a quick tour of the campus before heading out for lunch. I love the wide pathways as you move from one building to the next. The architecture is beautiful and stunning. I loved the status of horses and Blanton Student Services Building. I am always inspired when I set foot on any campus. I will always be a student at heart, but I need to put my money towards my food love for now instead of a PhD! (23)
