My friend Chris and I were in this area too early for our dinner reservation and we I for this library that open until 9:00PM on the day we were in Plano. I was surprised since the library in Houston all close at 6:00PM. Library is a place where we can being indoor with the AC and a restroom to use if need to. There are plenty of parking space here and there are some steps to go up to the main door and there is a ramp near the handicap parking space. My only complain is there is not enough tree planted area here for some shaded parking space. The first floor is the kids section. and downstairs is the adult section, they have stairs and elevators. There are pretty of chairs and table. There is a puzzle table where anyone can work on the puzzle and that was where we spend our time there. The staff here are very friendly by helping me to pronounce the name of the library was named after properly. read more

I have loved public libraries since I was a kid. Since the libraries have started selling some books and paperbacks really cheap, I go when I get low on books and stock up. I give them back the books I've read so they can be sold to others. I can't afford the prices of new books, so I wait until they are used and buy them. read more

As a college student from A&M on Thanksgiving break and looking for a place to study for finals; you'd be surprised how hard it is to find such quiet study spots in the DFW area with free wifi. This library has a lower level floor that is so quiet and neat. I absolutely love it and will definitely be coming back when I need to study and come back to my hometown. I was greeted so kindly by the staff too. 10/10 recommend!!! read more

Library materials are solid. Staff is great as well. Parking can be improved. There are a few spaces that turns out to be shorter with that front barrier inexplicably there. This causes even a compact car to jut out the back end making patrons uneasy if it'll get hit or not. One suggestion is maybe having the staffers park on the Chisholm trail parking lot so patrons (many with kids) can park closer. Another suggestion is removing that front barrier especially on spaces that are weirdly shorter than a normal space. Also, there are people who load and unload right at the entrance and while normally that's no problem but those who don't respect the spacing and park smack dab in center of the lane blocking people from getting through are highly irritating especially when the traffic is coming in from a street that still has flow of traffic. Please somehow discourage that behavior. Put your heads together and come up with something tangible and I'd like to see changes before year's end. There are some people that visit the library and specifically some of the digital stations, that are way too loud for comfort. I went recently and there was this patron watching Hindi youtube clips/movie on one of the stations (right behind the staffer in the basement floor) and just laughing loud which was quite annoying. Understand that can't really be helped but perhaps some soundproof rooms or signage making sure patrons read it could alleviate some of these annoyances. read more

When I'm in town, I tried to stop at this library to catch up on the newspapers or magazines. The downstairs is the main area for adult reading material, and the children material is upstairs. In just a few minutes I had the latest Wall Street Journal in hand. There were several convenient chairs to to sit and relax. They also have a quiet room that you can go in if kids are screaming too much. I poked my head in, but I did not need to use it since there were no screaming kids today. I had a few questions for the staff and they were all very helpful and friendly. They explained that they recently had some water damage. That's why that room downstairs is not used yet. They are trying to fix it up. read more

This is one of the most amazing libraries! The staffs always say hi, and they are always there to help you. I love their STEAM (including Art to the usual STEM) collections for kids, including all kinds of puzzles and instruments to play with. I also love the language collections for kids that are in a nice bookbag with different kinds of activities and books. The library has a relatively small space for kids and the study rooms aren't soundproof, but I still love this library so much that I give it five stars!! read more

Great place for all the reading. Offers lot of options on toddler books, dvds. Unique thing about this library is printer/fax/copy machine available at nominal prices. Desktops with Internet option for free(1 hr duration). Dedicated Study rooms available along with public reading spaces. Located heart of plano and sufficient parking.Cant ask more. This library is beautiful and set by Plano's best trail, making it a great spot to come with your kids. The children's area and youth area is huge. They have book bags curated by topic as well as tablets for preschoolers through high schoolers. A tablet with all algebra and calculus apps? Pretty cool. They have two activity rooms, one beautiful room for children story time and another one available to rent out. They have classes for English language learners. The adult section is downstairs - convenient elevator if you need it. There are lots of study tables & computers. It's a great place to connect to WiFi (you have to use your library card to log in). The staff is super friendly & welcoming. It's just a beautiful library. I'm excited to see it when the new renovation to the front is complete. Cons: Not all study tables have access to plugs. In today's day and age upstairs and downstairs there should be plugs like they have at Haggard Library. There are not enough tables for children to do homework or sit and read with their parents. There's no area for teens to meet for group projects. The children's story time room goes unused most of the time, it would be a great if they added a few tables in the back of the room for teens and older children to study when it's not story time - If you have a group project the teen room at Haggard Library has a conference room table. read more

I absolutely love going to this Library! The librarians are so helpful, they want to help you! They are not the old stuffy be quiet and breath softly librarians I've come in contact with. Theses ladies seem to be happy with their job and, take pride in what they do. Instead of window shopping after work to calm down, I love going to the Schimelpfenig Library, sit on the floor and read children's books! With these really nice ladies that's ok. They just seem to be happy you're there and enjoying what they have do. read more

I finally got the chance to apply for a library card after 2 year of being a Texas resident. Schimelpfenig Plano Library has great staff that was very helpful with assisting me with getting a card. They provide tons of resources in the library as well as online for ebooks. First appearance I thought it was small but then I realized they had a whole downstairs section for adults! Lots of great selection on pretty much everything books, DVDs, Ebooks for my Kindle, and you can even barrow Emagazines online too. They keep the facility nice and organized as well. They offer many programs for children. For example you can rent out science kits that the kids can do at home for fun education. They also have basic computer classes for adults. If you don't get lucky at finding a parking space in front of the building the majority of the parking is across the street. I haven't been to the library in a while and it's great to see how innovative and helpful it is now. They have everything there, even controversial books like the 50 Shades of Grey series! read more

The adult section is in the basement which offers a quiet section for studying. They offer a large selection of current DVDs. There's not a wait for the computer usage during the weekdays. The parking can be troublesome as the majority of the parking is across the street. read more

I love going to this library. The staff is very friendly. They helped me whenever I needed.

This place is pretty rad. Adults section is quiet (except for your occasional d-bag who somehow thinks it's both the appropriate time AND place to answer his phone and talk loudly). There are study rooms where you can meet up with groups. I especially love parking at the bar that faces the windows. The staff has set up power strips and soft little study lights over there - creates the perfect atmostphere. I'm a grad student and I don't even go to my own university library. This place is where it's at. Apparently some people have kids, and since I pass through the kids' section on my way down, I get a glance, and it seems like it would be a cool place to be a kid. read more

This is a wonderful place to take your little one when it's absolutely too hot to do anything outside. The library is kept clean and the crowd light. There's a children's area in the back that is filled with lots of books and toys. There's even a private bathroom reserved just for the little ones. read more

LOL, I wish I knew how to pronounce this name. My nickname for it sounds like Shimp-uhl. I like the offerings at this library but the layout is a bit odd. Two floors sounds good in theory but downstairs feels like a bit of a cave. They have lots of movies and books here. When I started going here the DVD section was much smaller. It has expanded exponentially in just a few years. Really love how progressive the Plano libraries are. Having grown up in Dallas, I can tell how much money and effort goes into making Plano libraries first class. They are my favorite thing about Plano after living here for a decade. (The parks and trails are my second favorite.) read more

Since this library is less than 5mins from my place, I love going here to study. Wifi is free and easy to connect if you have a library card. The internet speed is good and consistent, which is what I need for listening to online lectures and taking practice tests on my personal laptop. Downstairs in the basement is where the adult fiction and non fiction is, along with a row of computers and plenty of open tables. It's a quiet place to concentrate, and it helps me study for my board exam. The staff is very friendly as well. Upstairs/ground level is the children's section, but I haven't walked around there too much. Their selection of books is also great. I've gone to other Plano libraries and none of them disappoint me! read more
