Since June 14, 1905 the Masonic Home of Georgia has served over 2100 children in need from the State of Georgia. The Home is located on 650 acres in Macon, "the Heart of Georgia." This ideal location makes it easily accessible to all of Georgia. The Home is a non-profit organization that is funded by the Mason's of Georgia. Presently in Georgia there are 433 lodges with over 47,000 members. The Home is a residential child care facility that provides basic care to children in need. Residential child care is defined as the appropriate placement of children whose care cannot be provided in their own home or for whom group care is a positive alternative. I'm not sure if i should be rating the home itself, but i'm rating the mtn bike trails here…read more for a long time biker, this is a pretty good trail. it's a little confusing for the first time as there are numbers all over the place and they don't go in order. and there are several bypass trails that shortcut several times. but it is fast singletrack, and since my odometer has been broken for several months now (too lazy to repair it), i'm not sure how long it is, but i've read it's about 5-6 miles and it takes me anywhere from 30-45 minutes to complete. the local cross country team runs there, so if there's a meet there, you won't be able to ride. but it's nice and shady, paralleling a stream at some point, through pines and forest, and it's just a really good trail for a quick ride after work. if you are a trail runner, beware of poison ivy as it is rampant.

The housing is being worked on, and they have started planning renovations to additional buildings that were not up to code for a long time. There is a very bright future for these young adults. There is talk of a transitional housing program for the young women who leave the grounds when they reach a certain age, so that they have a better rate of successfully transitioning to independent living. There was also an addition of a part time teacher on site to help get the students back on track, as some have trouble in the Bibb County School System (not surprising). I am very excited about the new ideas and hope that Macon will re-discover this program with positive, productive, and respectful opinions.

Bring a thermos of coffee go early in the morning and just really try to take it all in. It has several other sections a Jewish section in a Catholic section and just a beautiful place to take to take it all in.

Very narrow lanes are drivable but you need to be very careful around corners lest you scrape a tire on the curbs. There really isn't much room for parking so be aware of where you might be leaving your car if you get out. Lots of ups and downs and then you'll find Greg Allman and the members of the Allman Brothers band which are below a small rise and surrounded by a tall fence. The Confederate soldiers area is massive as of course, a number of large Civil War battles took place in Georgia. These and others are in very good condition. Stop by and pay your respects. I had 10 minutes to spare today so I dropped in and found they had a great sale going on: all blue and white tags were buy 1 get 2 free. I got 3 shirts for $2. WOW. On top of that I found a pair of high top Converse for only $.99, and any true Chuck fan would know that's a SUPER deal. I also got 4 books (all @ $.50 a piece) and a nice beer mug for $.69. The location may seem a little shady (it's on Broadway for goodness' sake) but let that not deter the true treasure hunter!
