Unfortunately, I would not recommend spending your hard-earned money here. This school is simply not the same as it was just a few years ago. My children have attended since 2020, and under the previous principal, our experience was truly exceptional. She demonstrated genuine care for every child, communicated openly with families, and worked hard to resolve issues in a compassionate and timely manner. However, since the leadership change in 2024, the environment has shifted significantly. Communication has been one of my biggest concerns. I have reached out multiple times regarding issues involving my children and often received no response at all. Attempts to schedule in-person conferences especially to support my son, who has mild autism were repeatedly ignored. I was simply told there were not enough staff members to provide adequate supervision or support, particularly during unstructured times like recess. What has been especially troubling is the lack of transparency. There were incidents involving my children that I was never informed about at the time, only to later receive formal written reports via email. Rather than proactive communication or collaborative problem-solving, the school's approach often felt reactive and impersonal, with immediate mentions of suspension or expulsion instead of meaningful discussion. As a parent, it is deeply disappointing to see such a lack of responsiveness, care, and individualized attention especially in a Catholic school setting, where values of compassion, understanding, and support should be at the forefront. At times, it feels as though the focus has shifted more toward running the school as a business rather than nurturing and supporting the well-being of each child. I am truly saddened by this change and hope the administration takes parent concerns seriously moving forward. Every child deserves to feel safe, supported, and valued.

I adore the overall atmosphere and enrichment that he receives from SJBS. His improvement and development has make him a more wholesome and self-confident child. I have noticed the differences in his demeanor verse kids that go to the public schools in my area (they are sweet kids too). He can deliver a speech in front of a church group with confidence and no pressure. He amazes himself on the accomplishments he has made each school year. For as long as we are able to, we plan to keep him at SJBS and (eventually) enroll his little brother into the school.

My child attended there a few years but it became apparent that the school was woefully lacking in it's willingness and capability to meet my child where he was concerning learning styles and assignments. Even after a few meetings with teachers and school administration, I thought we were all on the same page. They did some things to try to accommodate his needs, but the school did not follow through with the plan we agreed upon. They recently informed us he was no longer welcome to attend WCA just a few days before school started. Imagine our stress to come up with an education plan with such short notice. If this was their intent at the end of the previous school year, we should have been informed then, not at the last minute​ - completely unprofessional on their part. I suppose though it is their prerogative to do so since they are private with closed enrollment - still an unclassy move in my opinion. One winter there was a fire alarm that went off. My child was in the after school care trailer when it happened. They rushed all of the kids outside without coats when it was bitter cold. Thankfully I was arriving when that happened and was able to get my son into my car which was warm and dry. I made a very constructive suggestion to the school on how to handle a future event like this so kids wouldn't be without a coat. Suggestion was ignored. My child is now in public school where there are definitely more resources available to him. Makes me question why we wasted all of that money on sub-par education and sub-par professionalism. I would not recommend this school as it is under-equipped, has mediocre facilities and resources and is out of touch with current educational styles. You are better off in a public school where resources are far superior to WCA. They proclaim a message of hope. However, there is no hope for your child if (s)he doesn't fit exactly into the school's less than flexible approach.

Many people criticize the fact that there are not as many resources and opportunities that public schools offer. However, every year they add more opportunities, more classes, and improve in every way they can. Most importantly, you get a Christ centered education. It is more important to go into college having a strong Christian background and a faith of your own than enter with 10 college credits. They left me with a strong foundation in the gospel, wisdom, and I learned so many practical life things from the Christ-centeredness that they so strongly focus on. It doesn't matter if you don't have AP this or that. Westlake is a school that helps your child be spiritually strong. As a little bonus, basically anyone can play on sports teams. My friend was a 5'2" basketball starter, I played volleyball for 4 years, and every sports team is a way to grow in friendships, physical strength, and in your faith.

The primary class (ages 3-6) is a great start to a lifelong love of learning. The children learn at their own pace, and choose to work on what they're interested in learning that particular day. Besides the wonderful classroom environment, the school provides field trip opportunities as well. Now the real star of the show is the Elementary classroom. The school has small classrooms so the children can experience so much more one-on-one time with their teacher (Mrs Bridget) and harbor a wonderful relationships that will last a lifetime. Each spring the class takes a trip to "Nature's Classroom" where the students stay in cabins, spend ALL DAY outside and get to choose their "breakout sessions" aka what they'd like to focus on that day. Every year, my child comes home and tells me he wishes he could go to Nature's Classroom all the time! Montessori Pathways is definitely molding wonderful young folks to be incredible adults. When COVID forced quarantine, and even during the summer, the teachers and school leaders regularly dropped off educational materials and projects to our home. If not for our personal life events, as well as the distance from our home, we would probably still have our daughter enrolled here. And perhaps the only area of concern for us is the cost of tuition, which is higher than some other Montessori schools in the area... but I will say that the value for the cost is there. Though our daughter isn't enrolled right now, we would confidently say that we would enroll her here again in the future.
