Our nanny recommended this class, and my son absolutely loves it! A lovely music class for littles and a great neighborhood find

I remember trying out so many different music classes as well as various mommy and me classes, and just thinking that I would never find something that would fit....then I came across Cathy's Movers and Shakers class, not only was it safe, fun, and interesting in EVERY class, but it taught my daughter to love and also appreciate music. We listen to her take home CD's in the car and it's the only thing that soothes my daughter. She teaches repetition and all the great rhythmic rhymes from all over the world. She is just a blast and a wonderful friendly person who deeply cares for our children. I highly recommend her. Not only that she is completely INEXPENSIVE. Great package all together! read more

We love love love Little Movers and Shakers for our kids, now 2 & 4. We tried many different music programs around town with our eldest when she was a baby and never found anything like this one. First of all, I think it's the best deal in town. We love Cathy, Savana and Erin. We love the music, flow and activities that keep little ones and parents interested and engaged. The music Cathy chooses is an extraordinary collection of world music and songs kids are familiar with. It's nice when you are in the car and don't mind listening to these songs 500,000 times! There's a new CD for each session to keep it fresh for all of us. My husband is a musician and composer so he was deeply moved the day he and our daughter were driving around and she was singing IN LATIN....Dona Nobis Pacem. It's one of our favorite songs on the last session CD and my 2 year old son fell asleep the other night singing it to himself. (tears) I am forever grateful I found Cathy and Little Movers, we've been in class for years and see the daily effect on our sweet growing children as they dance, sing, play instruments and incorporate activities and song into their play because of our extraordinary music class. read more

My daughter has been taking music classes from Cathy at Little Movers and Shakers for over a year and LOVES it. She gets so much out of the class. She can follow complicated rhythms, loves to sing and make music and just has a blast. Cathy's selections of songs never leave our CD player. I've sat through my share of music classes in LA - Toddle Tunes, LadyBug, Valley Cat, Music Together. There's always something fundamentally wrong with the class, as though the creators had no experience with children: long lectures on technical points of music; inappropriately short activities and fast transitions; creepy teachers who have no palpable interest in children. But Cathy's class is awesome. I honestly look forward to going each week - and if you think I'm enthusiastic, you should see my toddler! Cathy is smart, fun, and completely at home with little ones. She is a natural teacher, weaving in lessons about music while keeping kids of many ages engaged (my 1.5-year-old and my 4-year-old love the class equally). The class is comprised of enough variety of activities to keep everyone interested, but the pace is slow enough for little kids to engage and digest. Her music is worldly and kid-oriented, and my kids cannot get enough of the cds that accompany each session. Last week at the end of class, the kids nearly knocked each other down to give Cathy hugs. I think that says it all. They love her, and they should. Take this class! read more

I enrolled my son Angelo in this class around the age of about 4 1/2 months. When I started him here, he was just learning to sit up on his own. Now he's in his third "semester" and finally "catching up" to other kids in age. He LOVES Cathy and her fun classes. I enjoy bringing him here so much. I found Little Movers and Shakers from the Yelp reviews, and so thankful that I did. I look forward to taking Angelo each week. I play the cds she has given us when my nieces are with us in the car, and we enjoy singing along to the songs. Finding gems like this is why I love Yelp. This review is long overdue, especially since I first found this class through Yelp! We took classes at Little Movers and Shakers for nearly 5 years! We started when my first daughter was around 9 months old and continued when I had a second child. It was wonderful to have a place where I could take both of them despite their 2 year age gap. They both loved it as it offered something a little different for each and it was always a wonderful part of our week. We mostly had classes with Cathy but also occasional classes with Savana and they were both wonderful. It is such a fun way to introduce children to music and it was a great experience to listen to all the wonderful songs as a parent. My children literally grew up with the music that this class provided since it was the primary music I would play in the car for them. I love the fact that they were exposed to music from all over the world, and already appreciate music in many different genres. My older daughter now takes piano lessons and I know her love of music will continue because it had this wonderful beginning. read more

This is our favorite music class and we've tried quite a few. I brought my daughter from 8 mos to 13 mos and she had a blast each week. The songs and activities (puppet show, parachute, storytime etc) are so fun even my three year old loved them when they graciously allowed me to bring him on occasion (no one does that!) The location at Church of the Chimes in Sherman Oaks is beautiful and parking is easy! They also updated me with other fun activities happening at the Church or in the area for kids. If you're looking for a music class for your little one, look no further! Little Movers and Shakers is the BEST. Both of my kids have gone here and love it. We've taken other music classes in the area and this one truly stands out. Cathy is so great with kids and really understands them. You can tell she has a passion for music and teaching. Her song selection is creative and she incorporates it all: musical instruments, puppet shows, stuffed animals, dance time, imaginary play, etc. She ends the class with a nice closing song to calm the kids down. I started here as a new mom without many mommy friends and was very particular about what activities to involve my baby in (you know, typical new mom stuff!). I'm so glad I was introduced to Little Movers early on. I met new friends and my baby was happy and grew musically. 5+ stars! read more

Took my 14 month year old son. We both love it do much and always have a fun time. His favorite part of class is when they get free play with all the instruments. I loce that she has a different activity each time we come. Cathys class is very engaging and she always has great energey and helpful tips. Okay, my little guy and I have only been going here a few weeks, but already he is dancing, beating the couch like a drum, and humming to music in the car and at home. I don't know if it is the class but when we are in the class, we are so engaged and it is so much fun. We love coming to class at Little Movers and Shakers! Miss Cathy is a great teacher and brings so much energy and passion to her classes! My daughter has only been in the program for 5 months ( started at 27 mo) and just loves to sing and dance around with Miss Cathy! The music selection is great, the instruments are really cool and unique and the interactive activities are fresh and fun too. I love having my daughter exposed to so many different types of music that's not just Disney or nursery rhymes. My daughter actually asks to hear Miss Cathy's cds in the car rather than her normal toddler music ( which is great for me because I really get tired of Children's music). My daughter comes home after class and repeats the songs and chants from teacher Cathy's class and I can tell she is just absolutely enjoying this class so much!! One is my favorite parts of the class ,as a parent, is the "Hello" and "goodbye" songs that Miss Cathy sings with the class. I see my daughters eyes sparkle and she is so happy to sing along and follow every clap, floor stomp, and sound along with Miss Cathy. I'm so happy we've found Little Movers and Shakers! read more

My son absolutely loves this music class! Cathy is absolutely fantastic. She is so creative with her songs and music lessons, and she has such a huge collection of instruments and props. My son especially loves all of the cool drums she has. I love her music selection because it is "easy to listen to" for the parents as well. I've tried a lot of music classes with both my kids, 4 and 2 years old, and this is my favorite! This class is not only great fun for all ages, I really feel my little one is learning something about music and rhythm that will benefit him for a long time. Cathy is passionate about sharing her love of music with kids and they can feel it. One thing I love is the wide selection of different music, from jazz to waltz to world music, she finds a way to make all different genres connect with the kids. read more

My daughter has been attending music class with Cathy since she was 5 months old (she's now 21 months). It has been such a great class for her to participate in. Early on she would sit and light up every time she heard the songs or an instrument being played. Now she is so much more active in the classes. She plays along during their family jam and dances during songs. She absolutely loves it. Thank goodness for the cd's you get from the class because they are life savers for our car rides!! She hums along and knows all of the songs so well. Cathy does a great job of making the class a fun one to learn about music. We started my lil one there when she was about 10 months and it was great for her to observe and dance with the slightly older kids. Now we are in our second semester and we sill love it. Every class is new yet has familiar music and fun. Miss Cathy is so charming and s great with the kids, and keeps everyone super engaged. The class whizzes by and is not too long or too short! My 2 year old daughter loved this class! Cathy is fun and vibrant and puts a lot of thought into the material she introduces -- music, rhythm, movement and play. Cathy's classes are simply the best! Engaging, educational and fun. Not your typical cookie-cutter music class. Each class is different - she's constantly introducing new ideas and songs and you can tell she genuinely cares about creating a unique experience. She utilizes numerous musical instruments and educational materials such as felt boards and props (many of which she creates herself!), in addition to weaving in lessons about music. The CD's she includes have a wonderful array of varied music that are enjoyable for all to listen to. We've taken a number of sessions with her and each one was different. Little Movers & Shakers has been amazing. They are super organized, the room is very clean, and the teachers are incredible. For two sessions now our son has been taking the Saturday class with Savanna, and she is so wonderful with the kids. She is super energetic and patient, and always makes our son smile. (We've also had a class each with Cathy & Erin and they were both great as well). The classes have a big range of instruments that the kids get to experience, and the music each session is lots of fun to listen to (for adults too) and I really like the diversity and seasonality they include. The activities they do with the music have helped me come up with ways to do the same thing at home and some of the songs have become household favorites. All of the parents we've met have also been lovely and so kind. If you're having any doubts, try the demo, and I bet you'll be sold like we were :) Highly, highly recommend. read more
