PLAY has been an absolute gem of a class for our 2 year old. We have been attending classes for about half a year now and my child absolutely adores Ms. Veronika. The music and associated movements are engaging, and our child has often requests the songs at home. Ms. Veronika pays attention to every child and finds common ground to connect with them, helping shy kids open up during class. As a parent, it is great to see an instructor that is invested in children developing a genuine love for the music and instruments that are introduced in every class. Veronika is like a cool Maria Von Trap, enchanting children and adults with her angelic voice, guitar and fun props, some made by her children. She keeps her class in order in the most loving way. (It's best when parents help!) We always leave class with a smile and my little one and I sing joyfully together everywhere we go. We've been coming to Play for music classes since our oldest was a little younger than a year old and it's been absolutely wonderful. When she aged out of the class, she would still point to the building when we drove or walked past and mention the songs. She also chastised my attempts at singing to her several times by pointing out that I don't sing as well as Keith (which is true). When our son was born, we started him in the same classes. Not only does he love the classes, but I can tell that they've been instrumental - pun intended - in helping develop a love of music. He often carries a little guitar around the house and asks us to put the Play songs on our stereo. He also loves dropping in for free play. I can also say that it's not just the kids. As my work week drags on, Saturday morning music classes are one of the things that I look forward to. In the past few years, Play has been an absolute godsend. Our daughter started taking in person music lessons before the pandemic began and loved them-- amazingly, Play was able to keep the community thriving even when they had to switch to online instruction. Play has been an amazing resource for our family. My daughter started music class with Keith at 8 months and continued until 3.5 years. She loves the class and talks about going all week. Her parents enjoy it too! The music is genuinely fun, never repetitive and Keith always keeps it upbeat. We love the healthy snack area outside for post-class fuel. The play area is excellent as well - we usually stay after class for 30 minutes or so. It's also a great place to seek refuge on days it's too wet or hot to go to the park. Great little kids space in the mid-Wilshire area. What they lack in space they make up in quality. It is definitely small, any more than 10 kids and it feel cramped, but if you can catch them during a time where it's not busy, your toddler will be very entertained. They have a great selection of music and art, also kitchen toys for purchase-- a lot of Melissa and Doug products which I love! I agree with a previous review that the schedule it a bit hard to follow. About a year ago we used to come in for drop in art classes (they set up an easel with different brushes, paint, and typically some sort of paper to stick on the paint-- sensory and fine motor play), and I swear it wasn't as limited in time as it is now. You really have to check the schedule on a daily basis. I can't speak for the music or the mixed media classes, but I'm sure they're fantastic. read more

Play is amazing , clean and owner operated ( that makes it special). Play a sanctuary, you can stay all day or just pop in. Really they have drop in classes nice for those play it by ear days . You can enjoy music classes , play , paint and even snack/ have lunch at the community table. They sell drinks and healthy snacks. They also sell great music CDs , books and toys. Great for buying a gift without having to make another stop. All you parents know how important not having to make another stop is. My son has been coming here for 3 years. We love it every time we come. Even after all these years. He is now 3 1/2. He speaks beautifully, I believe part of the reason is because of the quality of music and teachers play has here. Even though it is small, I love that it's more of an art studio for children. My kiddo LOVED their "messy art". The bummer is that you have to come back to pick it up, we never did. It's not very often that you find a space that fosters an artistic child. The kids seem to have a great time at the music class but it was too loud for my kiddo. The people are so friendly here and really engage with children. Parking can be a pain and the area is a little sketchy (mind you I live in BH, so maybe I am completely biased) but it's definitely worth trying out. read more

Excellent little play place. It is small, but offers quality snacks after class, just enough toys to keep the kids occupied for 15 minutes or so and is run by an always kind man. They sell musical instruments, puzzles and other quality wooden toys. The music class with Keith is a must. He has a great voice and plays live guitar. All of the parents and kids have been well behaved and contribute to a fun and lively class. They also have great art classes which I look forward to bringing my 3 year old son too. I have been wanting to write this review for a very long time. We absolutely love Play! Our son will be 3 years old in a couple of weeks and he has been enrolled in the music class, since he was 9 months old. Since then, we have been coming to Play weekly. The music class is wonderful and we love our music teacher Keith. Our son always gets so excited to see him and I know that he is one of his favorite people. Keith is very sweet, friendly, dynamic and a talented musician with a positive attitude and a great voice. He is so good with the kids and our son often talks about him. At the beginning of every session, each family receives a new music CD. The songs are lovely; not your typical children's songs, but enjoyable ones to the grown-ups as well. Not one day goes by without us singing some of Play's songs. Our son requests them all the time and in fact, that is pretty much all we listen to in the car. We still love them, even after a couple of years! Many months ago we started going weekly to the art class, as well (Messy Mixed Media). That class is amazing! Emily is our teacher and she's a remarkable one. She is such a delight and our son has become quite a little artist! He always looks forward to the class (so do I) and he loves his teacher. I really cannot say enough great things about Play. The owners, Anne and James (who operate the place) created quite a special and unique place. It is super clean (I have never seen a speck of dirt), warm, cosy and bright. It has a perfectly-sized music room, art studio and play area, not too big nor too small, which makes the rooms very convivial. The playroom has the best toys (Melissa & Doug, Haba, Plan Toys, Janod...) and delightful books. They sell those brands of toys and great books as well as the best music instruments and CD's for kids and the yummiest and most nutritious natural and organic snacks and beverages. There is a communal table for eating. The bathrooms are spotless. Anne and James are lovely; a super nice and helpful couple, professional, self-effacing, unpretentious, sharp. Both our son and I are always delighted to see them. Our little boy completely feels at home, there. I could also easily spend the whole day, at Play. We go there twice a week for classes and stay to play afterwards for a couple of hours. Neither one of us ever get bored. I find that Play as a soothing atmosphere. The day our son will outgrow Play (which will not be for another couple of years, I hope), it will be very sad. But I feel so fortunate to have joined this place when our son was only a few months old. It has been part of most of his life and I believe that Play has a beneficial effect and is an enriching experience in the life of a growing baby/child. We love you, Play! read more

My twin niece and nephew had their 3rd birthday party here. What a great place!!! All of the kids were entertained the entire time...and let me tell you, there were a LOT of kids! One room was dedicated to painting so there were several easels placed throughout the room. It was so cute because the kids put on their little mini aprons so they didn't get paint everywhere. All the paintings drawn were hung up on a little string across the room to admire the young artist's work. The biggest room was comprised of toys of all types. From that little turtle shell thing that kids sit and spin in or crawl under to little dogs you pull on a string, they had it all. The neatest thing about it was that most of the toys were unique. So many of the toys were educational or intended to improve motor function and critical thinking skills. It was amazing to sit and watch their little brains turning. Not the typical toys you buy at Toys-R-Us. There were trains, cars, puppies, balls, everything imaginable. The place was incredibly clean, especially for being dedicated to children. The 3rd room was where we had the snacks and lit the cake and sang happy birthday. The twins absolutely loved it and you could tell their little brains were so stimulated by everything going on. Never a dull moment. The girl helping did a marvelous job, I couldn't believe how well she handled everything. I don't know the end cost but I would pay a pretty penny to have a party like that for my kids, when I have them one day of course. Everything was so organized and it was the most stress free toddler birthday I have ever been to, especially with that many of them running around. I would highly recommend this place to anybody that has kids and is looking for a fun, educational, and stress free birthday party for their little ones. read more

I think the price was reasonable but they are pretty good at getting your kids to try out the toys and activities and then to have them showcased around the venue so you can buy them. If I could, I would give PLAY more than 5 stars! We enrolled my daughter in the in person music class in July 2021. Because of the pandemic, it was her first indoor in-person class. We have been happily enrolled since then. My nanny raves about the teacher, Veronika and my daughter absolutely loves the classes, the music, the dancing and being able to interact with other children. I also really appreciate that they incorporate music from other cultures. Lastly, and this is not an easy task these days, I'm grateful that they take steps to ensure the safety of all in person attendees. My rating is more of an average between experience in the music class and experience with the general play space. The play area is fantastic -- I'd say a solid 4.5 stars. It's clean, bright and open with a variety of toys and books for babies and toddlers. As for the music class, I guess it wasn't quite what I expected. I attended with my 2-year-old daughter, and I just found that the class moved from activity to activity too quickly for a kid her age -- as in, "Here is a ball you can play with, but just for this one song! OK, song's over, give the ball back." Or, "Yay, here's a drum!" About a minute passes. "OK, bye drum!" This might be fine for much younger babies, but it was kind of tough for the kids around my daughter's age. Plus, the kids seemed to be expected to pretty much just stay on their own little individual mats during the songs, except during one free-dance song -- again, kind of tough for super-mobile toddlers. But the instructors are friendly and good with the children. read more

Soo fun for my 22 month-old! He painted at "messy art" class and then we played in the foyer with other tots. Tons of Melissa & Doug -brand toys, which my son and I both like. The table for snack time was nice, as it is big enough to accommodate all the children, not just a few! I enjoyed the atmosphere here. Very bright and vibrant energy. The staff was pleasant, though not outgoing for this newcomer, but I don't want to pass any judgements!!! Overall experience = good! I'd definitely recommend attending the messy art class for $10 bc you can let your tot draw on the walls with chalk, paint as many pictures as he/she wants, and make a mess with it! LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS PLACE! We have been bringing our two year old son to music class since he was 6 months old. All the teachers are amazing. We especially love Sarah. She's talented, energetic, and great with the kiddos. The music is awesome. They send you home with a CD in the beginning of each session so you can learn the songs. My son is always asking for "song" or "dance" in the car. We take a Saturday morning music class so that my husband can attend, but we are often here during the week for messy art or to utilize the play area. The play area has very clean toys, books, and a train table. We have been to birthday parties and concerts here. I am always telling people about PLAY. I'd never been to PLAY before, but I wanted to take my toddler to check out Messy Art. I was expecting to find ourselves in an art studio, but my son and I were both pleasantly surprised to find a nice indoor play space with a lot of fun toys. After we passed through the play area, my son didn't want anything to do with painting anymore! I spent some time looking at all of their toys and books and art supplies and musical instruments - so much to look at and everything is high quality. I like how they sell the same toys that they have out for the kids to play with. It's like you can test drive the toys before you buy them. He had a really good time and we could have stayed there all day if I wasn't parked on the side street in a 2hr zone. I'm just bummed that PLAY isn't closer to where we live. We cannot say enough great things about PLAY. Our son has loved it ever since he started at 18 months. The front room is a great place for the kids to hang out before class. And the class room is nice and big for everyone to sing and dance around. One thing that is exceptional about PLAY, as compared to another music class we attended in LA- is that all the teachers play instruments as well as sing. It's great to have your kids exposed to experienced musicians. We have taken classes with Angie and Keith. Angie is wonderful and Keith is awesome! Keith plays the electric guitar, as well as acoustic, and ever since attending his class, our son has loved guitars. In addition, they have a cool "messy art" program that's great for older kids. Also, we had a wonderful experience hosting our son's 2 year old birthday party at PLAY. We cannot recommend it enough as a space to hold a party. Our son and all his friends had a blast rocking out - even the parents and grandparents who attended had fun. Anne and James were so helpful going through all the details and made it so easy for us to have fun and relax at the party. They are very well organized and the whole event seemed effortless. This review is for Play's music class, not the business itself which is a great space. I signed up with a friend and our kids who are both under 2. We found the music too loud and the guitar used was an electronic guitar with an amp. The music itself isn't that enjoyable to listen to. Neither myself, my friend or our kids liked it. I've taken 3 different music classes, LadyBug is the best in my opinion and this is my least favorite. I do like Play as a place to take your child to hang but just didn't enjoy their music class. read more

Emily helped us out with the messy art and was very polite helpful and patient. They even let is hang out and eat lunch. We've been coming to Play for two years and love it. We do music weekly with Keith, who exhibits a remarkable amount of patience, and is energetic without being over-the-top. The songs are hokey, but they're for kids and there are a few I actually look forward to hearing. Not like head, shoulders, knees, and toes hokey, like Oh, Susanna hokey. The owners Ann and James seem like genuinely kind people and I'm happy to support their local business. We love messy art - Jasmine and Rebecca ooh and ahh over my 2.5-year-old's paintings like they're Picassos. We've made great friends there and I'll definitely miss it once my daughter is in full-time school. read more

We have been attending the PLAY group for babies and toddlers at the Silverlake Conservatory for Music for three sessions now! We plan to sign up again for the spring session as well. We love this class so much! Our teacher, Miss Emelia Lopez, is extremely patient and kind. The room that we meet in and all of the instruments are extremely clean. They keep the class small which is great too. Each child gets personal attention as Miss Emelia addresses them each individually with a "hello" and a "goodbye" song. She also includes them in stories and free play dance. There is a parking lot which is paramount in LA! Cell phones, toys or water bottles are not allowed inside the meeting room which is also a great rule that I know all of the parents appreciate. We attended another class when this one was full and although it was less expensive... The class size was huge, there was no parking anywhere, the teacher called the kids by the wrong names and the meeting room in Los Feliz was dirty! I highly recommend PLAY. read more

My kids love PLAY! We have been going for several months now, and it's the highlight of our week. The songs are catchy and fun, and they do a great job of bringing out different instruments and scarves, balls, etc. The kids learn how to get a beat going, and no two classes are the same. They give you a cd which you can play in the car so your child learns all of the words to the songs sung in class. We have Emily as our teacher, and my 2.5 year old LOVES her. We talk about Emily all week, and we wave to PLAY every time we drive by, while my daughter asks how many days till we get to see her again. My 16 month old loves PLAY as well. My daughter and I really enjoy going to Play. The teachers are fantastic and the art and music classes are fun, nurturing and stimulating. They provide all the art supplies our kids need to explore and grow. And every time we come for a class we can use the play room filled with toys and books.
