A little gem of a place tucked away at the end of a residential area. Truthfully, my husband and I would have never known about it, if I had not searched for a list of must see places in the area. A working family farm, looks like you can visit all year-round and have a self-guided tour. We were able to walk around at our own pace and see all the different animals: the cows, the goats, rabbits, etc. I was the most fascinated with the robotic milking machine and the explanations of all the recent improvements to the place. There was a nearby play area and a cafe. We had plans for lunch so we stopped by the store to pick up some small blocks of cheese and happily discovered an extensive list of where we could purchase the cheeses closer to home. Overall, it is a good place to keep the young kids entertained for a couple of hours and introduce them to some farm animals in real live. It is also good for the adults to purchase different types of cheeses and have a chuckle over some of the amusing signage posted around the farm.

While visiting Qualicum Beach this summer, one of the places my husband and I wanted to visit was Little Qualicum Cheeseworks, because CHEESE! and ANIMALS! Unfortunately, due to the actions of others, we arrived only about 15 or 20 minutes before closing, so we did not have a chance to properly look around, to our disappointment. However, we managed to (very) quickly walk around the farm and see some of the animals and purchase some cheese. We purchased a soft cheese with cranberry, Tipsy Jill, and my favourite, Hot Jill. I loved the cheeses, and I was happy to find that several stores in Vancouver, including Safeway, sell their products. I have since made several purchases after my visit, and if I am ever in Qualicum Beach again, I will be sure to go back. [Yelp collections: Qualicum Beach]

The city has caught up to the farm. So it is a surprise following the directions. It is worth it. They have calves, cows, rabbits, and a great little tour. They cheese is excellent as well.

    Goat cheese is good too

Great place to come visit with the family. Bring a container to buy some fresh milk with a high fat content from cows you can see up close. Watch out for the robot feeder. Very high tech. The cheese is excellent especially the blue cheese and herbed cream cheese

    $150 cheese and meat tray...yes I'm serious

LADF has always satisfied our Swiss house hold, supplying cheeses from all around the world! I've come by and found some unique cheeses that I truly don't believe you can find other than at a speciality cheese store. There is always a line up here (even pre-COVID). They know their stuff when it comes to the taste of each cheese and recommendations. You can find everything for the perfect charcuterie board, including meats, jams, napkins, etc. too!

During covid my partner and I have gotten into something we call Cheese O Clock every second Friday where we go to Les Amis and pick three different cheeses to try for the weekend. We pair the cheeses with some good wine and add chorizo or smoked salmon and it's quite a delight! Something that's certainly been a highlight during our stays at home during these times. The service is spectacular and they all know so much about cheese I love how if a cheese I like is out of stock they'll recommend one that's equally as great to me! It's so awesome when staff now what they're selling! We go every second weekend so obviously imma gonna give them a five star! If you're in the mood for fondue, this is your go to as well! They make incredible cheese mixes that you can mix with wine and heat on your stove! If you're in the mood for olives too, look no further! Les Amis has got it all!

Special shout-out to the heavenly cheese selection and the cute and clean premises. They also have an Italian pork jowl that I can't find anywhere else in town. Considering the rising price of eating out (and junk food), I will get myself some fancy treats here every week instead.

We got a LOT of stuff there, including crackers, pate, cheeses, jams, and a bunch of other items, all of which sort of flatlined. Now, in McLean's defense, the pate and cheeses were the only things they brought in specifically under their name. And the place was EXTREMELY cute, and they served sandwiches, and the owner was friendly and on premesis, and they'd let you bring wine if you wanted... ...but really, everything flatlined. The fig crackers tasted like prunes. The sheep's brie was overly strong in flavor, almost off-tasting. The porter cheddar tasted like...plain cheddar. The pate was bland. One standout was a cheese (I forget the name) which had a line of gorgonzola down the centre. Really, of everything we bought, this is the only thing I'd consider re-purchasing. Now I don't want to rule this place out based on one trip, but it *was* expensive (some of the crackers and jams were way over-priced) and I *was* disappointed, considering how it's touted around town as being wonderful. I like to support local businesses, so I will be back to purchase a significantly smaller portion of cheese. Till then...

This place is absolutely a tourist trap, and that's okay, because if you are here, and you know…read morethat it is, and yes, there are Goats on the Roof, then you are going to love this place. Firstly, if you come here "late" like after 10am, then it might be a messy bit to find parking, but there is both parking behind and down along the drive into the property, or across the street also. Once you park, I recommend just heading to the Old Country Market itself, find a space a few meters back, and look on the roof, The roof has a rotating set of goats, which live up top. They are the attraction, and that is it. You got a place with Goats... on... the... roof. Once you have accomplished that, time to head inside and check out the offerings. First, if you are just rushing through, it's just going to feel like some random grocery market. Yes, lots of things are mass market, but when you SLOW down, and look around, you may start to find some lesser known, and okay, still Made in China, but local flair nevertheless. I recommend heading to the meat counter (assuming you like meat) and getting some Jerky, or other items.. because those are made locally. Then as you meander through the trinkets, you are going to find a mix between local and imported things. As you wonder back toward the baked products, you are going to see piles of loves of bread. I didn't try them, so can't recommend, however head past that, and you will find delicious case of based goods, including their house made Sausage Rolls, which are darn tasty. Go with their original one, then branch out. Again, meat lovers here. As you slowly, go around the store, being bumped by everyone around you, because there are too many people here, in this little shop, take in the fact that ABOVE YOUR HEAD, on the roof, are up there. So look, it's a trap, to be sure, and don't doubt it's going to be a mass of people, but honestly, you came here because it was a tourist trap, so go early, and take your time. Also, highly recommend the used book store nearby, once you free yourself of the money you are going to spend here in the market.
