Having just taken my nearly 2 year old to the Denver Children's Museum for the first time the day before, this was SUCH a breath of fresh air. I can't say enough good things about it but most importantly how is this free?! I feel like they could charge $5 admission & I'd still be cool with it but I'll take free all day! My son has never seen a farm & growing up in San Jose my mother often took my brother & I to a place called Prusch Farm. Very similar to this museum so I was delighted to be able to find something I could take my son to so that I could try to give him the kind of cool childhood memories I treasure. This was even better because of the working Blacksmith! My son was in awe by the whole thing but my husband & I have never seen a blacksmith in action either. The variety of animals plus the costumed volunteers & walkable buildings are such a great way to entertain a toddler. We got there at opening & were able to get everything done by the time it was getting more crowded around 11AM. I would definitely come back as we missed seeing the small indoor museum near check in. Loved this 10x more then the Children's Museum! read more

What a fun little day activity. I went with my daughter and Mom and we walked around the 40 acre farm which is very accurately historically based. The inside of the museum was very interesting with an art exhibit, a special exhibit which currently focused on Kate Farretti and the Littleton history area which included a kids zone. The Kate Farretti exhibit depicted the life of a famous hat maker originally from Italy, she settled in Denver with her husband and made hats for Denver's elite including Molly Brown. Kate was also mother to the first triplets to be born in Denver. You can spend a couple hours here and make a day of it. I loved the living history farm portion which included 1860's and 1890's farms and contained 5 historical buildings as well as outhouses and a root cellar. It is an acutal working farm with 1800lb cows, turkeys, chickens, sheep, donkeys and a blacksmith! The gardens throughout were beautiful, we got to pick some pumpkins and see what would have been grown in this historical time period. Both livestock and gardens were accurately portrayed for the time period. You can only bring water in so don't try to do a picnic onsite. You are able to bring strollers and wagons and I would recommend doing so, there is a lot of land to be covered which requires a lot of walking. read more

Littleton Museum is a GEM for parents! I took my 2 year old daughter here on a beautiful December day and she loved seeing all the animals - cows, horses, chickens, sheep, pigs, donkeys, turkeys. It was a great way to spend time outside and walk around this nice property. It's free to visit, plenty of parking, clean bathrooms, and a wonderful gift shop! read more

Absolutely loved visiting the Littleton Museum a couple months back. First, it's free! What is these days? Second, it's a great educational activity for adults and kids alike. They have separate farm areas, one from 1860 and one from 1890. It's a lot of fun to walk through the farm and see all have animals and older buildings. We also enjoyed the demonstrations on how to weld and how to make soap. The indoor portion of the museum has a play area for kids as well as a full history of Littleton with lots of exhibits. I will definitely come back again when the weather warms up. read more

If you are a lover of knowledge and history, then this place is for you! The interior of this museum is loaded full of history of the city of Littleton from its founding all the way up to present day. Many showcases display a timeline of events what made this city strong, prosperous and enduring. The outside of the museum has two different live and working farms with multiple animals and crops that show what life must have been like back in the mid to late 1800's. There are also nature trails that lead to a hidden alcove that open up to neighboring Ketring lake and park. Best part about this place is that the admission price is the low low price of absolutely free. read more

Wow! I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this free museum. I visited with a teen amd though there were things geared toward small children, the content was also great for teens and adults. The outdoor area was incredibly cool. I'm sad we missed the hours of the 1920s ( I think) cabin, but visiting the 1800s one was fascinating. The staff member was so knowledgeable and friendly. I highly recommend visiting this museum to get a fun, interactive glimpse of our history! read more

This museum is a gem! I was searching online for free places to take my son and stumbled upon this listing. I can't believe this place is free! There are so many cool things here and we will definitely be back to continue exploring! While the interior of the museum features many interesting exhibits- the outside has several animals and old timey buildings which are extremely fascinating to explore. They do a lot of live demonstrations, so make sure to pick up a schedule from the front desk before you start walking around just so you can plan which ones you want to attend! read more

Still a totally fun free thing to do with kids or out of town guests. My toddler and I spent a couple of very enjoyable hours here last Friday morning. This time he was especially interested in playing pretend in the houses and in the blacksmith's demonstration. Seriously, he probably could have sat there and watched him all day! This is a real hidden gem and a great place to bring children. The property is larger than it appears from the front. I walked around a corner of it looking for an entrance and then figured out I had to enter through the building rather than through one of the fenced areas. When you come into the main building there is a receptionist. Past her are three different displays. One is an historical museum centered around farms and Littleton history. The second is a small art gallery and the third display is a room full of toys from the good old days. The kids loved the toys. Outside there is a working farm that is huge. If you go to the left there are chickens in a coop and a blacksmith barn. (I believe they give demonstrations some times.) If you exit the main building and go to the right instead, there are sheep, a horse stable, mules / donkeys, and a one room schoolhouse. Everything is kid friendly and has enough interesting stuff to keep even the littlest kids engaged and interested. read more

Visited here for the fall festival a few months back, and I ADORED it. I'm not sure if it is typically free, but that was a huge bonus coming to the festival. Lots of barn animals, history, and interactive performances. The interior of the museum itself is super cute, and I feel like I've learned a lot about the history after looking through the displays. Inhumane Animal Treatment. All of the animals have no space and they ALL look unhealthy, dirty and sick. They are all living in their own poop. I saw the sheep were incredibly itchy and one was desperately trying to scratch herself on the posts. The animals looked docile and sad. This can't be a healthy environment for people - especially children or the animals. Something needs to change. They should charge a small fee for visitors to take better care of the animals. No maintenance was done whatsoever. read more

We really enjoyed our visit here! I decided the night before to take my son here so we could get out of the house and try something new. The museum is free and very easy to find within the neighborhood off of Broadway. Just an FYI, you aren't supposed to bring any drinks besides water inside. It was pretty icy and muddy out in the back area with the farm animals so just be prepared if you go in the winter. We loved getting to see the animals and my son really enjoyed watching the blacksmith work! The animals were very friendly and we even had a few come up to us but we made sure to respect their space. This was a great way to learn about Littleton history and burn energy! We definitely plan to be back! read more

I went here to see a specific exhibit but I also brought my dad along with me. The people at the front desk were super nice and informed us of what was outside. The exhibit I went to go see was Christopher Warren Watershed Moments. I've been following him on social media for almost a decade so it was nice to see his stuff in person! The Littleton Museum is wonderful! My little is still under 2 and I am constantly looking for things for her to do. There is so much here for many ages. There is a small art gallery and then an indoor museum portion that also has a little play area for kids with a pretend kitchen. That was great after being outside in the heat. There is also a reading corner for kids. Outside there are several different farm animals and old structures from the 1800's like a cabin and a boathouse and a blacksmith area. There is also a garden and a lake. We come here and walk around for an hour or two and it's just perfect. The gift shop is also really neat with a lot of fun toys (farm animal related, mostly!) and gifts. There is a park across the street if you want to extend your day! read more

Hidden Treasure!!! We came in from California for a family gathering. We got in a day early, and we were looking for something to do. Hmmmm, Littleton Museum was free. What could go wrong? There was a 1890's house to wander through. Wow! Beautiful. There was a 1860's cabin to examine. Wow! Fascinating! There was a one room school house. Cool! And farm animals: sheep, pigs, chickens, turkeys, peacocks. (Peacocks! In Colorado???) And the cow with her favorite goat. And all the historically accurate equipment available to view. Great! Wait, there's more! We absolutely loved our time watching the blacksmith. Actually, it was Steve, the farmer. The blacksmiths were off that day, and Steve was filling in. We watched him make a decorative rose out of a steel rod about 18 inches long. Hundreds of whacks with the 3 to 4 pound hammer later, he showed us a wonderful piece of art! A rose with a leaf ... practically perfect! And we got to take it home with us for a very reasonable price! Steve was very interactive with all the visitors. Lots of school kids would ask questions, and he would give answers. And he'd ask questions back, interacting with the audience in an engaging way. All the staff was wonderful to deal with. One day, the fam and I decided to do some exploring in the area. We visited Ketring Lake and spoke to a local there that told us about the museum close by. The streets are not terribly easy to follow and at one point, we were about to give up but found it! There was plenty of parking during a weekday. When we went inside, two ladies were sitting at the front. They were very friendly and pulled out a map and showed us things they thought we may be interested in. By the way, this place is FREE! They shared a bit of the history of Littleton and gave us some highlights. It's a place where you can browse as much as you want. We decided to spend most of our time outside to see the old structures and some of the animals. There was a house where a costumed woman answered questions. Outside there was a chicken coop with some very fuzzy chickens and a barn. Just a few flowers had begun to bloom. A male peacock surrounded by four females roamed the grounds. Quite a nice place to visit if you're in the Littleton area! Everything is clean and well kept! read more

My son and I went here today because the Broncos game was awful, and we needed to get out of the house on such a beautiful day!! We got there about 2:30 and walked around for about 45 minutes. It was such a nice place to spend some time at. We went out back to the farm first, and dang, those pigs are HUGE! We walked around outside checking out the animals for a little bit and then went in to check out the museum part. I wish we would have been able to see more, but my son got tired and cranky, so after a quick stop in the gift shop, we were off!! We had a blast, and I can't wait to go back!! read more

How can you not give 5 stars to a FREE museum that is clean and kept up really well, offers a friendly staff, and has a working farm with real animals? This is a great place to spend a weekend afternoon with young children (under 5) checking out the chickens, cows, sheep, turkeys, pigs, peacocks, donkeys, oxen, etc. There are educational resources and re-enactments happening in the spirit of the 1860s/ 1890s farm, but we weren't really there for that part! You can definitely appeal to adults and older children with those elements and the indoor exhibits. read more

My parents are HUGE fans of museums [as am I!] and on a Friday afternoon suggested we check out the Littleton Museum. Usually associating Littleton with being "Little Fun" I figured I'd go see what all the fuss was about...and boy was i surprised at what this museum had to offer. Star 1- The museum is HUGE! There are some interesting indoor exhibits [showcasing the history of Littleton] but the primary kicker is the outdoor living history gallery...equipped with 2 farms [one from the 1860's and the other from the 1890's]. Set up is everything from the settler's cabin and actual food farms, to barns [with real animals!] and more! Star 2-The staff is made up of volunteers, young and old. Two very nice ladies greeted us at the door and gave us maps, an upcoming events calendar and more to make our time at the museum worthwhile and fun. Star 3- Everything is spick and span...very clean! In fact, i didn't see a speck of dirt inside. ha :) Star 4- It's FREE to check out. Nothing gets much better than that :) read more

Every parent out there seeks a way to anesthetize their children for nap time, and if you can do it for free, so much the better! The museum has both indoor and outdoor sights, although we bee-lined straight for the historically-accurate farms on the other side of the museum's interior. You can go right for a 1860's farm & schoolhouse, or right for an 1890's farm & blacksmith shop. Between the two there is a large lake with a couple of bridges and overlooks (equipped with narrowly-spaced rails so the little ones are safe to walk along them without danger of, you know, a surprise dunking). The best part for me was I could let the kids roam without any real danger of damaging themselves or the property, or escaping my supervision. The animals are fun (cows, goats, horses, chickens, turtles, cats, peacocks), but the kids got a kick out of being able to roam into an old ice house, the barns, and the buildings with historically-accurate furnishings & ambiance. The price is right too: FREE! They accept donations, and I'd be interested in seeing if they do any kinds of classes or scheduled activities to allow for more interaction for the kids. We'll definitely be back to find out! read more

It's a small, free museum that has two main exhibits outside that shows what a homestead would have looked like circa 1860s and 1890s. This could be hidden gem except for the really unfriendly personnel. Whoever called them welcoming must have been lucky. I suspect that there ar many volunteers who have no idea of pubic relations. I found them rude and stand-offish. I got there almost at closing and the person locked the door right in my face and turned her back and walked away. I didn't expect to enter since I was so late but at least a smile, a wave, an I'm sorry we're closing. Never going back . read more

My kids love to see the farm animals. However we would rather prefer to pay small visit to have a pleasant experience and better care for animals. I agree with some of the reviews here. There is not much protection here from scorching Colorado sun for some animals. The water was not clean. The ground was covered with lot of animal waste. The animals were struggling to get green grass outside the fence. They kept the horse and donkey in one enclosure. The horse is very friendly however he bullies the donkey for attention and food. The donkey look so sad and hopeless. After the visit I called the front desk and I asked her politely if is there any form or weblink where I can leave any helpful feedback. The lady got irritated and hung up the phone. I was very polite in asking because I know the front desk person has nothing to do with the farm Maintenence or management. I have been here couple of times before and out of 3 only one lady was pleasant. The other two were rude. I won't be here again unless they take better care of animals and have friendly front desk staff. I would rather pay a small fee if that's makes a difference to the animals. read more

Travel back in time with the kids to the 1860's or 1890's at the Littleton Historical Museum. A wonderful place for the whole family! There are two farms, a schoolhouse, blacksmith shop, barns, an ice house, a windmill, a big lake, gardens, an indoor history museum, gift shop and of course, a variety of animals. Take the bridge across the lake to the gazebo to watch the ducks and geese, wander down the dirt paths to visit the mules, cows, pigs, sheep and horses, meander through the garden to the hidden table and chairs. There is usually a cat there that loves to sit on laps to get pet! The price to get in is FREE but we always leave a few $ in the donation box. Our favorite time of year to visit is in the fall. Every October, the museum has a fun Harvest Festival! We pick out pumpkins, play old fashioned games, listen to music, eat pumpkin pie, drink cider, navigate the hay bale maze, take a ride with the horses on the hay rack and visit with costumed farm folk. Be sure to bring a wagon to haul your pumpkins from the field to the car! read more

Not much to see, but very cool on a nice day. There's a nice little interactive museum inside and it's free, so nothing to lose.

They have a love going for them. An ever changing local art show and even a research center with a staff person there to help you. The farms on the site are well kept and great for kids [or people who just want to see cute little lambs] The homes are really pretty and the garden is lovely in the summer. If you have kids or just looking to soak up some history and spend up to a few hours looking around this is a great place. And since it's free there really isn't any reason not to come here. When you're done there's even a huge park and lake next to it to enjoy. Do check the website/ city website because they do have little music fests and craft fairs through out the summer time. read more

Kids loved this place! Large grounds, happy animals, volunteers available for questions! We spent a great deal of our time outside since it was a nice and sunny day. We watched a volunteer smith demonstrate some cool things, kids were mesmerized! We absolutely loved the experience! Word of advice, come in rain boots ;) With nature and farm comes dirt and mud. read more

The outdoor areas (animals, farms, gardens, bridges, etc.) were the best part for me and my two year old. The place had a large school field trip or two and I didn't feel crowded as long as I was outside. There was an indoor play area for "cooking" and reading and pretending, but my little one couldn't play with all the older kids. The history of Littleton area was interesting. The whole facility was very clean and well kept. I didn't love the volunteer lecturing me on not feeding the squirrels, geese, whatever- I wasn't, nor would I. If snacks aren't allowed in the area I was sitting, please just tell me. Also, probably remove the pumpkin I was sitting next to, half eaten by squirrels. read more
