I have to say this is by far the best styling I've had thus far. I lived in Mankato for 2 years and Andrea was the 1st and only stylist I went to. I have since moved to Austin and every time, I am disappointed. She is amazing and has set a high precedence. Most times I would walk in and just tell her to do something with it (hair), giving her full reign/trust. She exceeded my expectations every time. I decided to get a 60-minute facial, and while it had to be booked 2 weeks out since their appointments were all full, it was well worth the wait. The atmosphere in the massage rooms is to die for, the products they use are extremely luxurious, and I was treated like absolute royalty. In general, I've had very good experiences here. Courtney, my main service provider, is excellent. Occasionally, due to weather or illness, my appointment has been cancelled, but they're very good about notifying me and rescheduling. I wasn't sure what to expect but the salon had good social distancing and all stylists had on masks as well as all the customers. When I came in they took my temperature. You entered o e door and left through another. They had you wash your hands after the temp Check. After washing my hair the chair was sprayed to keep others safe. There were plastic shields in place and chairs were taped off to maintain social distance. There were also fewer customers than use to be. Thanks Liv Aveda for making me feel safe! read more

Worst service. Worst haircut. Worst eyebrow wax - EVER. If you value, even slightly how you look you definitely don't want to go anywhere near this salon! I went in with 2 photos of a haircut, which wasn't very different at all from what I currently had. (In fact, one of the photos was the same one I showed the stylist at the Hair Police in Mpls. when I was lucky enough to sneak in an appointment with them last time I needed a haircut.) I had to ask the stylist at Liv Aveda to even my bangs out 3 times before finally deciding to give up (lest I be left with no bangs at all!). Then that evening I was out with a friend who noticed a smudge of what she thought was dirt on my eyebrow. When she went to wipe it off, it turned out it was a HUGE piece of wax -- and off went HALF (no exaggeration) HALF my eyebrow! Here is the worst part - I made 2 phone calls to the salon and talked to "managers" both times. All I got was "aww we are so sorry, come on back in so we can see it/fix it" and a promise on both occasions to call me back..... First- why would I want to come back into a salon that obviously was so incompetent the first time that I still lack half an eyebrow (luckily my bangs were so uneven they cover that eyebrow!)? Second - I don't live in Mankato. I was there visiting my Mom and won't be back until Spring time. All I want is my $40 back so I can get the bangs corrected and buy a good eyebrow pencil! So unless you want to throw away your money ..... stay away from this joke of a salon. I can't believe Aveda allows them to even carry their products! read more

I walked in with a concern regarding a product purchased there during a promotion about 90 days ago. The product was different than the formula I had purchased in the past. I did not use the product until I ran out of the previous bottle. The product did not seem to perform the same. I was told initially it was passed 90 days and nothing could be done; however a manager was contacted and I was informed that the product formula had been changed. She did replace my product with another bottle at no cost to me and I was offered the option of purchasing another product. I wish I had known about the change in the formula when I purchased it initially. Nikki made it right with me and I am thankful for her customer service. read more

I've been going here for the last 4 years and I'm not really sure why. I usually have to go back and have it fixed. I once even splurged and went to one of the 2 most expensive stylist and I had to go back in because she didn't highlight anything under the ears for a full highlight. The most recent time I went I wanted to go from blond to a chocolate brown and it turned out black. I called to see if I could get it lighter and was told it would eventually fade into the color I wanted. Unfortunately I didn't pay 130 to have it fade into want i wanted. After a week I ended up just going back in to have it bleached because I hated the black so much and ended up having to pay another 150 just to get my hair back to what it looked like before. It's seriously time consuming to have to keep going back let alone a waste of money at this point. read more

My experience was horrible. I went to the spa for a facial (which was enjoyable but that is it), hair and make-up. My daughter was getting married and I wanted to not have to worry about doing my hair and make-up on my own. I wanted to look really special and not what I look like every day. The facial was great no problems there. The hair and make-up are another story. Remember when I said I did not want to look like I do every day well when the stylist was done, she asked if I felt comfortable in the style and I said yes...that is what I look like everyday. Very dissappointing. I'm strating to panic and almost left but I thought I would try the make-up but I should have left. The person doing my make-up showed me a eye chart that she just got two days ago! She was doing make-up from a color coded book! It was horible. I looked like a clown. I finally got out of there and ran to target. I bought $3.50 velcro curlers and my husband picked me up and sped me back to the hotel (I knew I looked bad and my husband agreed). I proceeded to take off the make-up and put my hair up in the velcro curlers. I ended up looking beautiful and should have trusted my own skills but had hoped a professional would take me over the top. My mistake? Not finding a professional. Run away from LIV in Mankato. I was planning on having my wedding make up done here. I scheduled a trial 2 weeks before and the service was pretty friendly. I brought a photo along of a woman's face that was wearing very natural looking make up. I explained to the make up artist that I barely ever wear any make up besides mascara and lip gloss and I wanted a super natural look. I sat in the chair and she applied the make up. When she handed me the mirror I was super excited to see how I looked and upon seeing my reflection I got choked up. She had me caked in make up. Eye liner so thick and heavy along with dark brown eye shadow and rosey blush. I told her right away it was a bit much for me and I wanted to look more natural. She told me on the day of the wedding she would tone it down and that was it. I got out in my car and cried because I looked so horrible. After I cried almost all of the make up off I felt like I finally looked a little better. I ended up canceling my wedding day appointment with the salon and I made an appointment with a different Mankato salon and the guy who did my make up ended up doing a great job. I would say all in all the service is friendly and the salon is tidy and nice looking. I'm sure services very depending on each make up artist or hair dresser... Well I WAS going to go here to get my eyebrows done but since my roommate just had a huge issue with the salon I don't ever want to step foot inside. My roommate went in to get her hair done to lighten it (she has light brown hair) and it came out yellow. The girl stood there with a handful of her yellow hair. She then sat there for another few hours to have it fixed and now her hair is damaged, dry, and full of split ends. SO she calls to see if she can have the price reduced because, who wants to pay almost $200 to have their hair ruined? Not only does the salon take over an hour to call her back but she continuously is put on hold. When she finally gets a manager she is only offered free products for the inconvenience. Like really, you're that greedy that you need the money for the terrible coloring so you offer her products and think everything is going to be okay? No. You ruined her hair, why would she want free products from you? read more

This is the BEST salon and spa in town. I've been going here for 4+ years for facials, waxes and hair styling and I have never been disappointed. Everyone is always making sure that you are comfortable and having a pleasant experience (i.e.: offering refreshments, magazines, etc.) which really helps me just relax when I come in for an appointment. Amy always does such a fantastic job on capturing my vision for a new hairstyle or color and I just love chatting with her when I come in to get my hair done. I had a massage and loved it! Crystal did a great job! I give crystal 5 stars the reason I gave it an overall 3 star is because they arr doing remodeling and I could hear hammering for the first half of my treatment. Also the treatment room I was in was between the reception area and waiting room on the spa side and I could hear kids yelling and playing during my treatment. I will return for a massage but not until the construction is done I will update my review at that time. Also will by getting a facial next week so we will see how that goes! read more

On Wednesday May 11th 2011 my husband and two sons went to Liv Aveda in Mankato MN for trims. My husband got his hair cut first. We were told our boy's appointments were at 12:30 so my husband would have time to help with the boys cuts. We brought the boys in at 12:15 to find that Liv Aveda made a mistake and our appointments were scheduled at noon. I should have left at that moment. Next, my youngest son had his hair cut. I told the stylist that I liked his curls and length just wanted a trim. She did exactly what I asked, other than his bangs are too short. My other son arrived with really full long (past shoulders) length hair done in a really cute style. My kids have always had longer hair. I asked her to take off about 1/2 of an inch and trim his bangs to his eye brows. She DISTROYED his hair. She took off at least 5 inches!! He has super short hair now! And its all been cut different lengths super thin, so it looks like he has super thin hair in horrible condition. It looks dry, thin and frail all in different lengths super short!!! At least 5 inches cut, I asked for 1/2 an inch!!! She told me she'd cut it to the shoulder! His ENTIRE neck is exposed its as short as you can cut it! Not only that, the longest hair on his whole head, is next to his ears. As she was cutting I asked her to stop, and she said "I have to even it out!" Are you kidding me! We also repeatedly told her about the hair on her ears, and why were they longer that his whole head and she said it would look bad if she cut the ears. Why? Because its a total super short boy cut, and what super short boy cut has long hair on the ears? I left in tears. My son said, "My brothers hair looks good, mine does not." and we've been in tears all day. We had to cancel his birthday party for this weekend, and it will be at least a year before he gets his gorgeous thick full head of hair back that EVERYONE we meet RAVED about. You BROKE MY HEART and MY 4 yr old sons!! I went to Liv Aveda because I thought they cared, and did a good job, listened to their customers. If I wanted a great clips cut I would have went to great clips. Not only that, the stylist also said to me while we were asking our son if he wanted his hair washed, "it will cost more". Are you kidding me. I am not broke, I do not expect to be treated as so at a salon like Liv Aveda. Why would I take my two kids to Liv if I wanted a cheap service! You honestly distroyed my kids hair , and it will take at least year to fix. Thanks for NOT caring about your customers, or what your customers look like leaving your salon. I wish I could post a sign on his head so everywhere we go everyone knows this horrendous cut came from Liv Aveda. You lost 5 clients today. Callie Smuder read more

I had a consultation appointment set up for 15 mins, from 3:45 - 4 pm. I got there 5-7 mins before my appointment and was asked to wait in the waiting area. I waited till 3:50 and went back to check, I was asked to wait a couple more minutes as the stylist was finishing up. Finally, I went back at 4 and told the receptionist I was leaving! She did not even have the courtesy to apologize properly or even ask to see if I want to reschedule my appointment. She brushed me off to attend to the next customer! I would never go back here or recommend it to anyone! read more

I had a regular manicure at Liv Aveda. Two days later one nail had no polish and several showed signs of wear. I had done nothing out of the ordinary to cause the damage. I returned to Liv Aveda to show them, fully expecting an apology and a correction. I received no apology and was informed they only guarantee the manicure for ONE DAY! So, for $70.00 I had two days of decent looking nails. When I do my own nails they typically last 5-7 days with the use of over the counter products. I find a one day guarantee to be a sign that they have little confidence in their products and staff. That when I returned I wasn't offered an apology and, in fact was addressed in a rather flippant manner, is just one more reason to avoid this business. read more
