Not for Cats. The Vet was afraid of my cat and didn't touch her. They took her out of the room for shots and brought her back in her carrier. She was growling at them and me. When I got her home and out of her carrier I noticed a cut on her belly that was not there before the shots. Just wanted to let people know to Not Bring Your Cats there. We were searching for a veterinarian in this area. Friends of ours advised us to go here. When we walked in the door, we were very impressed. The waiting area is very clean and a great size. The young lady at the front office sign in area was very helpful. The vet doctor was great and honest with us. The vet tech took notes and cared about our pets. Our senior rescues are now updated with their vet care. The cost is very reasonable. Departing by signing out wasn't as pleasant. I couldn't remember the monthly pill name the vet tech told me. The lady behind the desk seemed perturbed with me. I couldn't remember the medicine I had been told to buy. Eventually, she named different meds, and I remembered. I purchased six months' worth of flea, tick, and heart for both rescues. Overall, this is a fantastic office. We highly recommend this vet. read more

Who does this!! My little guy I was told had high liver enzymes before getting his teeth cleaned. Well according to them, he wound up with 17 teeth missing when I picked him up . Said the high enzymes could be because of the infection in his mouth to come back in a month for another test. We went in on Monday, did another blood test .. $80 later, they say his enzymes levels are higher than before. He needs an ultrasound. So we go in on Tuesday and $375 later, has test done. Says Dr will read results and get with me. For a "game plan" she was in surgery yesterday and will try to get to them later that day or today. Between my husband and I we've called 4x maybe 5 today and she still has not read the results. She's been busy. Ok I did mention to someone not 2 yrs ago that I lost my BFF with high enzymes and asked if they can please do something. Well it is closing time and she (the girl) says to call back tomorrow. She wants to read results that are in her box and hasn't gotten to them yet and will come back with yet a "game plan" again WHO DOES THIS! read more

You make an appointment for 2:00 and you're seen by 2:05 at the latest. Dr Robert's is compassionate and an excellent vet. One of my favorite vet practices ever. The office staff is excellent too. I use to work at Live Oak animal clinic. One of the vets left also and I changed to her new hospital. When she left that practice I decided I would try Live Oak again even though the practice had been sold because they were close to my house. When I called to make the appointment the receptionist seemed new or uninformed, condescending and a total lack of compassion. I told them my cat was dying and could I get in for appointment. The girl put me on hold then came back to the phone and informed me I had a balance due of around $140 from over 10 years ago before they even owned the practice and I would have to pay thT to them before they would see my cat. I informed her that I made payments to the previous owner and it was PAID IN FULL! The two receptionists who could of confirmed this had passed away. I swore to the girl that I am honest and would NEVER leave a practice with an outstanding bill. My integrity is important since I had continued in the vet field and been a tech for 23 years. The 2 vets I worked with there would have confirmed my honesty. I asked her to check again because there had to be a mistake and she informed me the manager said no. I said please check with the vet as I am being truthful and my cat is suffering. She said they would call me back and NEVER did! So much for compassion for a dying pet. Sad that money was the most important issue to them. I did find my previous vet and now take all my cats, rescues and colony cats there as well as my elderly dog. I'm thankful to find out the kind of vet practice this is as well as seeing a poor review on Next Door app before I transferred all my pets. Shameful! read more

I have a15-year old Golden/Aussie mix. Dr. Rakes at Live Oak has seen her twice this year, once at home and once at the office. I had been to 3 veterinary clinics this year with everything from cracked toenails to very rapid breathing and drooling. Dr. Rakes examined Sophie thoroughly and listened to all my observations and concerns. She changed her meds and gave me advice to help me thru this period with my Sophie. Live Oak Animal Clinic Almost killed my dog. They missed diagnosis a tail injury. They didn't fully exam why her tail was bleeding and having discharge. They wrapped it in Vet Wrap tap. Pretty tightly within 15 hours he tail was atleast 75% dead. He tail was swelling and dripping blood. I cut the wrap off and she was bleeding puddles of blood. She had an abscess that they wrapped tightly. The infection rapidly grew. She was in danger of going septic. Her poor tail was literally shedding chunks or hair and flesh.(d.m for pictures) she then had to be hospitalized for 3 nights. I had to care for her for 6 days around the clock with 5 different meds, with no way for her tail to be wrapped. She bleed everywhere for days. She has been in a cone for 20 days. On meds for 20 day. Restricted to her crate or on a leash for 20 days. They had to amputate her tail as it was dead. They showed no sympathy. The women at the front desk were very cold. They accused me of not paying for meds they gave me. But later discovered they never even gave me the meds. They wanted me to pay for her additional pain meds and antibiotics after I spent over 2000 in hospital bills. When I said I wasn't going to pay the $20 dollars in meds they literally shooed me and rolled their eyes at me. I CANT belive the lack of remorse they have. The pictures are gruesome! I posted them on social media prior asking for help and my account was banned ..this has been. Traumatic please think twice before going there. They just want your money. I've been going to LOAC for some time now with my 3 dogs. Even brought a litter of puppies in to be checked up on and get their immunizations. Always took their direction at heart and did what I was asked. If I called with a question and They advised me I needed go in I went in. The front girl is very sweet and always helpful the doctors you're lucky to see them for five minutes. 10 minute tests turn into 25. I think we will be taking out business elsewhere. read more

Very disappointed in the service I received . My rottweiler had to have eye surgery twice. I was told that he would not have any further issues with his eyes after the second surgery which turned out to be false. He is still having severe eye drainage so I reached out to the vet once again and he denies telling me that the last surgery was suppose to completely correct the issue. He wants me to pay for another surgery now. I have never experienced such inconsideration for a pet's health. I was lied to and my dog is still suffering problems with his eyes. I sent pictures of his eyes completely covered in thick yellow mucus which I was told the last surgery was to stop him from producing tears completely. They, in South Tampa are extremely over priced- sometimes 4 or 5 times as high! They are more about profit! My pitbull puppy who is 5 months old was brought in because he wasn't eating or drinking and was very lethargic. He was not his normal self at all and we knew something was wrong. We brought him in and the veterinarian was not compassionate at all and just put it off as "puppy growing pains". That same night we ended up taking him to the emergency vet clinic because his breathing got really bad well it turns out he got into rat poisoning and had 5 liters of blood in his chest. We were told by the emergency veterinarian to follow up the next day with her primary vet for monitoring and they kept him overnight so we brought him the next day to Live Oak and the same veterinarian told us that there's nothing really she can do and she can monitor him but she can't help him and "pitbulls are tough". I will not be returning there ever again. Thank god we brought him to the emergency vet and didn't listen to the veterinarian at live oak or else he would be dead. He's recovering great now, no thanks to live oak. read more

I have used Live Oak for years. Pam is always so friendly and helpful. I used them mainly for my 4 dogs shots and heartworm prevention. Then I started boarding them and, quite frankly, it was shocking. About the third boarding, they were sent home unbathed and filthy. They blamed it on me for picking them up early, so I figured next time, I'd give them a heads up. Next time comes and I know I'm going to be getting them early, I give them more than 24 hour notice, reminding them I need the dogs bathed and nails clipped. I sent my housekeeper to pick them up since I wouldn't be home that night until after they closed. The clinic was well aware of this. When I got home to see my puppies thay night, they again were unbathed, filthy, full of fleas (which they never have) and their nails weren't clipped. Upon further investigation, I discovered dog beds and toys that did not belong to me, covered in fleas! Now I know where the fleas came from. The next morning I immediately had my home professionally treated for fleas, bathed all the dogs myself and threw away the bedding and toys that were covered in fleas. Before I could call Live Oak that day, they were already calling me wanting the dog beds and toys back! No apology whatsoever! Dr Shearer got on the phone and blamed me for picking them up early. I explained what really happened and he said we don't want you back. As if I did somethingwrong. I am so disappointed I have sent many customers there and they left me in a lurch. I tried to buy my Dogs ID food there and they refused to sell it to me. Very very unprofessional. I have 5000 Facebook followers and unless I get a written apology from Dr Shearer, I will let All of them know as well. read more

Dr. Shearer has saved several of my Chihuahua's lives during the course of their visits over the past 20 years. He is caring, his staff is caring, all at the clinic are professional. I have boarded them there (all 7) plus my mastiff. Never had a problem. All came home clean and happy. the babies are getting old, and I don't expect to have them much longer, but had it not been for doc, I would not have had them this long. Willie is my only little Chi left. His mom passed a while back. Willie is almost 12. I thank doc and the staff for their kindness, and good medicine. I've been taking my dogs & cats to Live Oak Clinic for 18 years and although I found Dr. Shearer to be quite "testy" with people at times, his love and care for animals was always very apparent -- many times, he gave me a discount or recommended a less expensive method of treatment, knowing I had several animals, all rescues, and their welfare was always his first priority. Unfortunately, the clinic was sold fairly recently to 2 female veterinarians, and Dr. Shearer is no longer practicing there. My experiences over the past several months since the clinic came under new ownership have been disappointing, to put it mildly. Even though I've made every effort to give these vets and their newer staff members the benefit of my continued business, I have, this week, placed my animals in the care of another vet. My reasons for doing so are primarily because, not only are the charges for office visits, tests and in-house meds significantly higher than previously, but my pets are not receiving the care and attention that they deserve. Instead, waiting times for scheduled appointments are ridiculously long and when the vet eventually comes in to evaluate the condition, she hardly spends any time with the patient before she's out of there and off to the next room! Follow up calls are now a thing of the past and very rarely can you speak personally with the treating vet. They are so rushed, it's difficult to pin them down in the treatment room and next to impossible to get past their technicians on a phone call. There used to be a high standard of courtesy towards the clients and a willingness to be helpful; however, the newer employees working out in front appear to be simply "doing their job" and not much more than that! With as many animals as I've had go through those doors over the past 18 years, it's become very obvious to me these people are in it as a commercial operation and the animals take second place -- sadly, I must caution any who are considering using Live Oak Clinic, be prepared to spend lots of money for mediocre care. I have been going to LOAC for almost 5 yrs now, Dr. Sheer was wonderful- I have 5 dogs and the cost was not outrageous - fair - Things change - he has another vet with him, who seems to be running the show - Took one of 5 dogs in the other day, to have a wart or cyst removed-Dr Sheer had removed several over my dogs time, they do come back I know. While this is one on her lower leg - QUOTED me a price of over 200.00 plus additional 100 for dental-This was the new vet he has in the office. When he took off 4-5 cysts a few years ago he charged me around 100.00 for them all. I will not return to this office and presently looking for a compassionate vet - Dr. Sheer has changed may be wants out - The staff seems to be constantly changing now also. I would not recommend this veterinary clinic now to anyone, and one time sent many people there. Beware he know longer cares about the animals. Absolutely awful. Dr Roberts extracted 50% of my pets teeth WITHOUT CONSULTING ME! When I asked why I wasn't consulted she responded that I was not a medical doctor so I could not determine what should or should not be extracted. Evidentially the fact that I am the pet owner is of no significance. When I asked if x-rays were done to determine need of extraction she responded that she didn't think x-rays were necessary. I left the office with my 7 pound pet covered in blood. No one ever called to see how my pet was doing after having 18 teeth pulled out of her mouth. read more

We brought our dog akela to the clinic on 9/21/13. We received a "possible" diagnosis of parvo and she was slightly infected with hookworms. When we were given the medication and the diagnosis we were told to give her the medication fully and that she might still die.We told the vet that she had her parvo shot and a health certificate. On 10/3/13 she died of unknown reasons was never quarantined and we were never given an explanation other than "it happens" and "we didnt know what else to do other than to treat a possible infection". after conferring with several different vet offices and the breeder several things were mishandled and we were basically charged 160.00 to have our dog die from misdiagnosis. We didnt know until talking to other people that the chances were she was killed by being given the parvo medication for no reason and that any results of parvo are to follow the protocol of keeping the dog at the vets until symptoms were resolved. The meds given to us were in a bag with an icepack and we were never told to refrigerate. my wife let the meds sit on the counter because my wife was never given proper instructions on how to store the meds. It was an awful experience and we would like for other people to get their dogs treated properly. read more
