Live Oak Park has seen me in every phase of my life. Whether it be hitting dingers in my Little League Baseball League, playing pick up basketball as a kid against grown men, taking tennis lessons (I was trash at tennis), or running around here in middle school with my group of friends, Live Oak has been instrumental in my growth as a man. Most recently, it's been here for me when I come back from NYC and just want to get some shots up alone. Nothing as cathartic as grabbing the new basketball my Granny just got me, popping my airpods in, and doing the basketball workouts I used to do as a kid when hoop dreams were all I cared about. Something about reconnecting with that part of myself just eases the stresses that come with adulthood. I think that chubby insecure kid would be proud of who I am today, and that makes me smile. It's good to look back at your past and appreciate who you've become... But don't stare at it, or you'll end up staying there. Look back, smile, and keep pushing forward. Live Oak Park is another favorite of ours when hanging out in the Manhattan Beach area. My girl love Tennis, so I have to play tennis with her and her friends when we all come here to hang out lol. I will take a break and play basketball as well with random strangers . People in this community are friendly.Park is clean and safe for children and families. No homeless or trouble makers lurking around here because Manhattan Beach also have a wonderful Police Station as well not far by. I like this park when coming to the South Bay. read more

Dog park STINKS of urine since wood chips absorb the smell ... Woodchips are also so dusty and get all over my shoes. MB needs to look at Playa Vista and take notes ... They should add separate sides for smaller / big dogs, it's simply not SAFE to have 15 pound dogs with 100 pound dogs ! For such an active and dog-centric city, I hope for better ... read more

I've been coming to this park to use their courts for over 3 years now and I love it because they have perfect lighting for night matches. It's really not that hard to reach them. They have a sign on the window that says they're out of the office :15 - :45 of every hours to walk the facility. Just call between 15 minutes before or after the hour and they'll answer. The facility is always clean and 90% of the time there's parking. They did remove the numbers to keep score last year, so I was forced to buy my own. It's $8-$10 depending on the time, but we'll worth the price for a clean, we'll lit & maintained facility. read more

I hadn't realized this park is so large, until today. I have only been there for the yearly street fair, at which time it's hard to see much of anything except crowds of people. But today I walked around and took 24 photos of the facilities. There is at least one baseball field, Dorsey Field. And basketball courts, and tennis courts. There's a small dog park. Dogs are not allowed in the park except for that area. There are two well-equipped kids' playgrounds. There is a large field house that I thought was a library before today. And there is a child drop-off program. And ceramic classes in a separate ceramic studio building. There is a smallish picnic area with cooking facilities. You can access the park from the main entrances on the east side, where the free street parking is located. Or there is stair access from the residential streets on the hill, along the west side of the park. It's a popular neighborhood park, just blocks from Manhattan Beach Pier. Great park located in Manhattan Beach. This is the central hub of parks! They have one Basketball Court which is seldom used, two Baseball Fields, a small dog park, a kids park, a toddler park, picnic areas throughout the park and 6 LIGHTED TENNIS COURTS. However, there are usually 1 court taken for class instruction at night. The park is open Year-round 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM Monday - Friday 7:00 AM - 8:00 PM Saturday and Sunday If you want to use the Tennis Courts, Reservations are Required: (310) 545-0888 Court fees are$5 per hour (7:00 AM - 5:00 PM Monday - Friday) $6 per hour (5:00 PM - 10:00 PM Monday - Friday; Saturday and Sunday; Holidays) If you are interested in Tennis Classes or other classes in Manhattan Beach go here: http://www.ci.manhattan-beach.ca.us/Index.aspx?page=362 Prices are not that bad. The dog park is open until 10. It is made out of wood chips. It is not too big. On Wednesday nights, I play on a South Bay tennis (doubles) league and our home courts are at Live Oak Park. The courts are clean and the wind screens are dark (so you have contrast when watching the ball). It's an excellent facility and the lights are amazingly bright! I like the fact that the lights are higher than normal tennis court lights, so if you hit a lob, the ball doesn't go in and out of the lighted areas. The six courts are very nice and if you want to play tennis, I would definitely recommend Live Oak Park. We pay $9.00 for the match (2 hours), so I would presume it's $9.00 an hour to play at night. This is a great little park with so much to offer. Hoops, tennis, softball, lots of kids stuff (from LL baseball to playgrounds) and a dog run. But what makes this park unique (and 5 stars!) is that it has a ceramics studio! This is a hidden gem in Manhattan Beach. I've been a student there for 6 years and it's always amazed me that people don't know about it. It's a complete studio - - 8-9 wheels for throwing with over 10 types of clay that can be used (and bought there) - 4 very large tables for hand-building and slab-making pieces (plus a slab roller and extruder) - 3 bisque kilns - 2 large final fire kilns - a raku kiln - a large glazing room, with 20+ glazes - numerous plaster molds - and more There are all kinds of classes to take for all ages. There are evening classes M-Th from 6:30-9:30 which are perfect for after work and plenty of daytime classes. Go to the City of Manhattan Beach web site and there is an Activities registration button and follow that. Open to all, not just MB residents. The instructors are pretty cool and open for students to do/learn anything. One last cool thing - if you are an experienced potter, they have what's called an "Open Lab." For a very low cost you can come in and use the studio facilities (no instruction though) for 4 hours. This includes getting your pieces fired that you created in the studio. They have 6 of these Open Labs scattered throughout the week (including weekend). Some really good artists there. read more

Good place to play tennis. Sometimes the courts can be damp from the runoff from the grass early in the morning. If you are a MB resident you can get a card to make a reservation. The courts are lit at night. It can be noisy if the playground is full of kids. There is a baseball field and basketball courts. There is a small dog run. There is a playground for young children. Some picnic tables. Free parking. Close to a walking path with wood chips. In October the have a beer garden and street fair. read more

This review is for the Tennis courts only. They are notoriously hard to reach. Either the office door is locked most of the time or there is someone in there busy browsing the internet with the door locked like the older gentlemen who refused to make eye contact through the glass window when I was trying to get his attention today. The female staff members are friendly and helpful. Bottom line you can't rely on this facility if you want to play regular tennis. It's run worse than the DMV. read more

Note this review is only for the BASKETBALL COURTS in this park. When I used to visit California and my friend Dan he had one complain in general about the courts in California. There is no late night ball because after a certain hour they club the rims. Any court that clubs its rims is going to be at a HUGE disadvantage in my book. The comp in this court is solid. Not too competitive but not too weak. Its all adults no Grammar school non sense. The rims are also challenging due to the double rims. But One big draw back is that there are always kickball games going on and the dirt from the baseball fields will always track on to the courts themselves. DO NOT wear an expensive pair of Jordans you will not recognize them after the game. The line to get into a full court is really not that bad here but I LOVE playing night ball so I cannot give this four stars. There are courts in Long Beach CA that are open till 1 am. read more

This is a sweet little park for little ones. (review is for the fenced in little kid park only!) Most of the areas are filled in with sand. All of the equipment is geared toward the preschool aged kid. The park is fenced which is really nice! I like to come to this park and then walk over to the Manhattan Beach farmer's market on Tuesdays. One downside is that this is NOT a good park for meeting other moms. If you come on a weekday during the day it is almost always nannies. Sometimes a grandparent watching a kiddo. I have seen a moms on a few occasions - with their nannies so that they can chat with their mom friends in peace while the nanny watches the kiddo. read more

This Park is cute, but nothing special. It is located a few blocks east of the ocean, near Valley. The toddler area had a few play structures to play in. It had a lot of sand play areas. It also had some swings. Besides this, it was not that much fun. It is not a destination point unless you live in the area. They have tennis courts at the park. They also have a very large grassy area that sports events can take place at. My favorite time to come here is for the Manhattan Beach hometown fair. read more

I love this park due to its versatility. It had baseball/kickball fields (where i play the latter), it's host to the Manhattan Beach fair and it even has a small dog park that's very well kept. It's very long and separated so you can be on a field and not deal with the small children who are in the play area and you can avoid the dog section if you need to. read more

They are very difficult to reach - often no one picks up the phone so booking a tennis court can be frustrating. They only except cash but they have a fun ball machine. read more

I play in a kickball league here and the field can have muddy conditions more often than not and the parking can be an issue sometimes. But still a nice park and well lit. read more

great park for little ones! this park has a inclosed gated area for little ones from the ages of 12 months to about 3 years. lots of toys parents have donated left there and a great little sand box. read more
