Back home for Thanksgiving, me mum asked me if I wanted to play in her Tuesday afternoon Pickleball group made up of 60+ year old moms. Absolutely I do, mother. Real ones know Pickleball with the older crowd is an absolute war, and war is a full contact sport. This is big, big business to them. We reserved one of the 4 legit Pickleball courts here at Rec Park, and as they start warming up and trading Holiday horror stories like "I'm a little sad Chase is with his girlfriends family this year for Thanksgiving" or "Ugh I'm worried the Turkey Roaster won't hold up this year but Steve just INSISTS on using the same one from 1962..." the palpable tension of gametime on the horizon begins to percolate. Few things are more humbling than doing anything athletic with a group of 60 year old women and them absolutely dominating you. Thankfully, I wouldn't know what that is like as I am an ELITE athlete and was gliding out there like a Prime Rafa Nadal on Clay while trash talking them with lines like "MAKE MARTHA MOVE HER FEET, SHE DON'T WANT TO MOVE HER FEET I PROMISE YOU, SHE STUCK IN THE MUD! GO RIGHT AT MUDDY MARTHA SHE NOT BUILT FOR THIS! " or "NANCY IS WIT US! GET HER ONE OF OUR JERSEYS!" after the yellow wiffle ball just barely lands out of bounds giving us a point....................... ahahaahahaha jk I was actually getting WHOOPED out there. These ladies are so skilled it's crazy. Real humbling stuff. This park is sick though they have everything from tennis courts, hockey rink, lawn bowling, basketball courts, volleyball courts, playground, baseball field, etc. Something for everyone. THANK YOU REC PARK FOR HUMBLING ME I NEED IT SOMETIMES! IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov__

    Pickleball anyone?

Considering this is a FREE public park, I'm very impressed with the cleanliness and upkeep. This property is huge and has so many things to do: cornhole, lawn bowling, pickleball, tennis, softball, soccer, and the list goes on. I came here to play pickleball, which requires reservations through the following website: https://pickleballinsider.com/listing/el-segundo/ I really enjoyed myself here, very nice sprawling park with plenty of beer/food options for when you are done, so workup an appetite.

    This park is pretty big.

This park is very large. There are two playgrounds. One fenced for the little babies, one open for the older kids. My 4-year-old son loved it! It's very clean, a lot of benches and tables. Baseball field and basketball court available. Sinks and restrooms available too. It's a really nice park and we will definitely return. Parking is readily available.

Clearly they are not 2-5 years old.

Toddler park review Good things about this park -location -weather -gated Bad things about this park, full of non toddlers. From older kids 7-12 to teenagers/adults with beards and no kids playing on the sea saw. Watch your kids closely.

This is probably the best perk to living in El Segundo. It makes me want to move here. Residents of El Segundo get to enjoy everything it has to offer like tennis courts, baseball/softball fields, basketball courts, skateboard park, and recreation center just to name a few. This park is also very clean and well maintained. There's also a nice picnic area with a huge fire pit next to it. They also have grills for the perfect summer bbq. During lunch the tennis courts are open to the public but first come first serve. Other than that, the courts need to be reserved by ES residents.

Nice local park with a lot of amenities for sports enthusiasts. They have tennis courts, a hockey rink, basketball courts, a lawn bowling area, horseshoe throwing area, and much more. There are also 2 small playgrounds, a large fire pit area, and several picnic/bbq areas. There's a lot of parking and it's very near downtown, so you can walk to get food or supplies easily.

    Awesome Fireworks show :)

Don't let this park fool you into thinking it's just ordinary, it's not! With that said, it's got levels of areas for different activities. It has Tennis, Basketball Courts, Roller Hockey, Racquetball and Lawn Bowling among many other activities. Community center also offers a variety of activities and classes, among other things as well. The city holds seasonal town events & festivities throughout the year. Parks great for families with wee ones or couples, and older folks to take a stroll in. And finally, the best Fireworks display (if you don't want to fool around with traffic at the beach to watch the Pier ones) that you can see anywhere in the city -that's if you don't mind walking or a short drive to it and/or if you want the front view on field, which is very reasonable for bracelet/entrance fee, I might add). If your watching from outside, be sure to bring a lawn chair & find a spot within neighborhood/birds eye view of park and plan to get there early if driving, parking gets taken up fast! I live within a few blocks, so I was lucky to have a good spot up the street/hill I live on.

Great little park... rephrase that, great BIG park! this park is huge and accomodates all different type of ventures, activities and most of all, ages. there is virtually something for everyone who enjoys a good park experience. they have a baseball field, bball court, tennis courts, raquetball, lawn bowling, picnic areas complete with bbq grills, a toddler safe play area with rubber floors and lots and lots of open spaces. GO FLY A KITE! we came by recently for the annual Easter Egg Hunt here put on by the parks department. two words... Awe. Some. the people here did a tremendous job with putting this escapade together. this was our first time being a part of it and we have to say that we can't wait till next year. the event was very well organized. we had spotted the banners indicating the event date and location a week before while taking one of our walks. the day of the event was even more organized even amidst all the chaos that is "Toddler Terrors"! it was a sea of strollers and baby bjorns and sun hats and lattes out there! communication and direction were tantamount to being able to enjoy this morning, and the staff here were on top of things. loud speakers, though it freaked out sofia at first, provided clear and concise info. big kids here, little kids there, walkers, crawlers etc etc. i can't say enough about how well the event was put together. the hunt itself went smoothly. well, as smooth as getting 2, 3 and 4 year olds to do an activity can be. the kids were scattered and parents were chasing them down but so much fun. so much. the sun was out, the air was crisp and grass was definitely greener on THIS side. we had a great time and will definitely be coming back to this park, eggs or not. :)

El Segundo has lots of little parks throughout the city, drive around a bit and you'll see small, medium and large parks mixed in within the houses. The recreation park is the main center for baseball, basketball, tennis, skate/hockey, volleyball, lawn bowling, horseshoes, kid's playground, etc. I signed up for a rec card ($10/year I believe) and you can use it to check out what you need for the activity (basketball, horseshoes, etc.). They also have community trips to local places (San Antonio Winery, downtown) and some with farther destinations (Solvang, Chumash Casino). If you live in El Segundo and enjoy outdoor activities, you must check it out.

Nothing as cathartic as grabbing the new basketball my Granny just got me, popping my airpods in, and doing the basketball workouts I used to do as a kid when hoop dreams were all I cared about. Something about reconnecting with that part of myself just eases the stresses that come with adulthood. I think that chubby insecure kid would be proud of who I am today, and that makes me smile. Instead, I picked up a delicious sandwich, some deli sides, and drink from nearby Boccato's Groceries ( https://www.yelp.com/biz/boccatos-groceries-hermosa-beach ), lucked out in quickly finding a parking spot, and ate my lunch at a picnic table before reading my book for almost two hours. It was a beautiful day, and many other people were enjoying the near perfect weather and all the space the park has. There were at least three different kids' birthday parties going on, but they didn't interfere with one another, because Valley Park has multiple areas with picnic tables. It has a huge playground, a basketball court, and what seem like acres of grass to play on. There are also lots of trees for shade. As I said, I found parking almost right away, on Morningside Drive, but that meant a long walk for me, as the path from the western side of the park takes a rather circuitous route past the playground and the basketball court to the group of tables I wanted to sit at (the only ones completely unoccupied when I arrived). I could have taken a direct route through the grass, but that would have meant walking through a kids' soccer game and some of groups of kids playing. Most of the parking is along the two streets that form the northern boundary of the park, but I could see the street from where I was sitting, and those spots didn't open up often, and when they did, they were quickly taken. It got a bit windy as the afternoon passed, so I had to go chasing some napkins and the lid for one of my deli delectables at times, but it really is a nice, well maintained park. I didn't use the bathroom, but I did see quite a few moms taking their kids into them, so I'm assuming they couldn't have been that disgusting. Speaking of the bathrooms, it would be great if this Yelp listing could have a different, less puke-inducing cover photo. Please click on some other photos, people!

EXCELLENT little park!…read more we had Sofia's birthday picnic here. had to put down a $200 check deposit to secure 2 tables and a bbq pit. front and center location was where they put us. good shaded area for this warm and sunny day. the tables were slightly on the smaller side, well, for a family of filipinos and mexicans at least. the bbq was the traditional park type. off the ground and large metal grates. the area we reserved and the area around was immaculately clean. grass was trimmed nicely as well. the slopes that are typical with my little town were negligible where our spot was. further out on the fringes, you can notice them. the park has it's own private parking lot which makes it very convenient. there is a "kiddie" pool on site that was very popular on this sunny warm day. the deep end was 3ft and the low end was 2.5ft. awesome for the little ones. well, not mine since we werent' dressed for it. overall, we're looking forward to coming back to hang out here and have another picnic. maybe not as grand of a scale as a birthday party, but, a little bbq and some sun. also, we'd love to come back and have the kids check out the pool. we should get some use out of our $10 recreation card!

Then at 1 we were told they would open at 1:30. Finally at 1:50 the pool opens and I'm told that my rec id had expired and I need to renew with 2 forms of id or pay. I said we've been waiting for almost 2 hours and we need to leave soon by the time I go home and get that it will be too late can you just let us in. The guy said uh no. Also if there is a birthday party the pool gets packed with kids and parents. Once the pool gets dirty they close the pool and tell you to come back next time usually within the last half hour. Also at the end of the season the lifeguards start to call out so if there are not enough lifeguards the pool can't open. Also they charged me $1 more than what is listed on the website. If you're coming from far away I wouldn't recommend. If you're local and have a rec ID it's worth taking a chance but expect to be disappointed
