People like to throw their parties here and not clean up after themselves... Used to be lovely neighborhood park. Trash bins are always beyond capacity.

So not sure if everyone know the story of this plot of land. It originally belonged to Willa and Charles Bruce in 1912. It was a thriving resort run by African Americans and was taken from them by eminent domain by city counsel. After the land sat vacant for many years a park and a life guard station were placed on the property. In 2006 the city named the park Bruce Beach. It is a beautiful piece of land in Manhattan Beach directly across for the ocean. Fast forward to 2021. The decedents of the Bruce family have been awarded seventy four million dollars for property that was illegally taken. A right to a grievous wrong. It is a truly quaint little place to relax and watch the ocean and appreciate nature.

A major vibe!! Plus, everyone else visiting was chill and stayed to themselves. Which is a good thing when you're coming for some peace of mind. Bruce's Beach is definitely now my new favorite beach! Just be sure to make time to find parking. It gets crowded on the weekend

A nice beach, not too crowded with good sand and lots to watch: surfers, sail boats, sand volleyball and happy families. Parking is available but close in gets filled in pretty quickly. Beach kept clean, bicycling trail on inland border and lots of nearby restaurants and bars.

Enjoyed the last Sunday of Black History Month 2022 at Bruce's Beach. Brought my blanket, snacks and enjoyed the good vibes from lively crowd just before sunset. The view of the water from the grassy knoll of Bruce's Beach is breathtaking. So happy the Bruce's have had their land returned to their family - legacy!

Beautiful place to a have picnic and enjoy a delicious view.

Oh my God I love this park I love it because it has the ground like little mountain, it's very beautiful because it also have just the perfect view to the beach me and my sister like to go and work out and is very beautiful and calm. Perfect for a picnics or just to have a wonderful peaceful nap. I cannot wait to go back.

The history of Bruce'a beach is quite fascinating. It's amazing to see that the governor has given the land back to the original owners. This park has a great view of the crystal clear ocean and clean beaches. I recommend this as an outdoor spot to practice yoga since the wind pushes east. I love the San Francisco shaped hills and the children taking advantage of them.

It's a park...not a beach so don't let the name fool you. It's pet friendly (on some parts of it) but leashed dogs only since there are no gates or fences surrounding it. You get a great view of the beach as well. It's near the Lifeguard Training Center and there are restrooms next to it too.

    Bruce's beach park.

Proud that the descendants of Bruce family got their parcel of land back after the city ran them out back in the 1920s.

Nothing as cathartic as grabbing the new basketball my Granny just got me, popping my airpods in, and doing the basketball workouts I used to do as a kid when hoop dreams were all I cared about. Something about reconnecting with that part of myself just eases the stresses that come with adulthood. I think that chubby insecure kid would be proud of who I am today, and that makes me smile. It's not a destination park, but that's exactly why it works so well. It's clean, quiet, and perfect for a short break: sitting on a bench, reading, stretching, or letting kids run around the playground. What stands out is how peaceful it feels despite being so close to everything. No crowds, no noise -- just a relaxed, friendly vibe. Instead, I picked up a delicious sandwich, some deli sides, and drink from nearby Boccato's Groceries ( https://www.yelp.com/biz/boccatos-groceries-hermosa-beach ), lucked out in quickly finding a parking spot, and ate my lunch at a picnic table before reading my book for almost two hours. It was a beautiful day, and many other people were enjoying the near perfect weather and all the space the park has. There were at least three different kids' birthday parties going on, but they didn't interfere with one another, because Valley Park has multiple areas with picnic tables. It has a huge playground, a basketball court, and what seem like acres of grass to play on. There are also lots of trees for shade. As I said, I found parking almost right away, on Morningside Drive, but that meant a long walk for me, as the path from the western side of the park takes a rather circuitous route past the playground and the basketball court to the group of tables I wanted to sit at (the only ones completely unoccupied when I arrived). I could have taken a direct route through the grass, but that would have meant walking through a kids' soccer game and some of groups of kids playing. Most of the parking is along the two streets that form the northern boundary of the park, but I could see the street from where I was sitting, and those spots didn't open up often, and when they did, they were quickly taken. It got a bit windy as the afternoon passed, so I had to go chasing some napkins and the lid for one of my deli delectables at times, but it really is a nice, well maintained park. I didn't use the bathroom, but I did see quite a few moms taking their kids into them, so I'm assuming they couldn't have been that disgusting. Speaking of the bathrooms, it would be great if this Yelp listing could have a different, less puke-inducing cover photo. Please click on some other photos, people!

EXCELLENT little park!…read more we had Sofia's birthday picnic here. had to put down a $200 check deposit to secure 2 tables and a bbq pit. front and center location was where they put us. good shaded area for this warm and sunny day. the tables were slightly on the smaller side, well, for a family of filipinos and mexicans at least. the bbq was the traditional park type. off the ground and large metal grates. the area we reserved and the area around was immaculately clean. grass was trimmed nicely as well. the slopes that are typical with my little town were negligible where our spot was. further out on the fringes, you can notice them. the park has it's own private parking lot which makes it very convenient. there is a "kiddie" pool on site that was very popular on this sunny warm day. the deep end was 3ft and the low end was 2.5ft. awesome for the little ones. well, not mine since we werent' dressed for it. overall, we're looking forward to coming back to hang out here and have another picnic. maybe not as grand of a scale as a birthday party, but, a little bbq and some sun. also, we'd love to come back and have the kids check out the pool. we should get some use out of our $10 recreation card!

This summer we came the 2nd weekend and it was closed both Saturday and Sunday. When we called to ask why it was closed they said they didn't know. Today I called at 11:45 and they told me that the pool would be open at 12. When I got here we were told that they ran out of chlorine and were waiting for someone to bring some. Then at 1 we were told they would open at 1:30. Finally at 1:50 the pool opens and I'm told that my rec id had expired and I need to renew with 2 forms of id or pay. I said we've been waiting for almost 2 hours and we need to leave soon by the time I go home and get that it will be too late can you just let us in. The guy said uh no. Also if there is a birthday party the pool gets packed with kids and parents. Once the pool gets dirty they close the pool and tell you to come back next time usually within the last half hour. Also at the end of the season the lifeguards start to call out so if there are not enough lifeguards the pool can't open. Also they charged me $1 more than what is listed on the website. If you're coming from far away I wouldn't recommend. If you're local and have a rec ID it's worth taking a chance but expect to be disappointed
