The good: This park has sand, squishy mat, and wood chips. There's a fun metal roller slide, a climbing gym, swings, picnic benches with shade, a community garden, flat sidewalk areas for scooters, a seesaw for 4 people, a bridge, and more. It's a few blocks away from the ocean. The grass is very green and nice for picnics. Dogs must be on leashes. I thought the mini picnic tables for kids was really cute. I got lots of recommendations from a Facebook group I'm in for this park. The bad: The bathrooms were blocked off so I used the portable potties by the parking lot. The potties were very full and smelled more than average. I was hoping for a park without sand because my daughter loves sand so much and always ends up only playing in sand and making a mess. The interesting: The cement slides are very fast so be cautious! The parking lot has a six hour limit. read more

This is a great park with a very unique play area for kids featuring some really not run of the mill attractions that are fun. It's a very family friendly environment with some shaded areas when it's hot too. The biggest downside is that the parking lot is small (and some of the spaces are either tight or folks drive wide cars but don't know how to park properly). read more

This is such a great park for the community! There's a little bit of everything here: a walkway around the park for walkers, kids riding their scooters, learning to ride bikes, shady trees along the side of the park, a grassy area to have a picnic, to have the kids or dogs run around, baby/toddler play area, play area for older kids and a cool ropes course area! We initially wanted to come to this park to try out the built in slide along the hill, however this is now closed. There's a community garden that is positioned in front of the ropes course. This park is so cool! It has a concrete slide the kids can go down that is real fast and fun! They also have a big open field and lots of playground equipment. The best part is their shade. They have bathrooms that they open up as well to the public. Check this park out! read more

The play area has completely been renovated with a buffet of play options: There is a ropes style monkey bar play area. There are water and sand play areas that mimic natural springs. There is a fancy multi-person seesaw / merry go around. There are little green tree tepees for hide and go seek. There are swings, slides, balance bars, etc. Oh and there is the funnest 30 foot concrete slide you'll ever see. We spent a couple of hours here on our first visit! Let's hope all the fancy landscaping lasts a bit longer with all the kids trampling here, there and everywhere. WARNING: Parking is near impossible. There are two tiny lots that fit about 20 cars each and few street parking spaces within a stone throw away. If you have tiny kids in tow, I hope parking karma is on your side else it's going to be a rocky start to the day! read more

My little one absolutely loves this park. It is a hidden gem. I walk the trail and happen to see this park so I took my son there. He loves playing in the sand area with sand toys that or left for kids to enjoy. He enjoys the swing, slide and other features there but the sand and water is his favorite. There are plenty of kids his age to play and run around with. They also have a huge grass area for lounging and pick necks. You can even watch your kids ride around the grass area on the path. Bring bikes are cars and let then go. Plenty of space. The parking lot is limited and it's in between appartments but it's a cute quaint park. read more

Came here for a 7 year old's birthday a few weeks ago. Wait, it was a friend of my son's... I wasn't just hanging out. But had I been, I would have had a good time anyway, because this park is legit. Imagine you're a kid and your teacher makes you draw a picture of the perfect park. You go crazy and have these zones of fun and swing set stuff and then you draw these big cement slides into the side of one of the hills. And then imagine you grow up and build this place based on that drawing... made it reality. That's how this park looks and feels. This park has no sign to identify it as South Park....I had to ask a local for the name. She told me the nearby women's groups are trying to raise money for a sign. Awwwww......... It's called South Park because it's at the far south end of Hermosa Beach, duh. Haha! Well I must say this park has more hidden entrances than I ever suspected. I knew about the entrance and parking area on Valley Drive, but today I discovered a second entrance to a small parking area behind the community center: take Loma to the dead end, past 6th, and there you are. And....a third entrance exists....but this one is strictly a foot path. Park on Monterey & walk half a block down Fourth to the walking path entrance. It's really nice that the park has easy access from all sides, considering this is a heavily-populated neighborhood just a couple blocks from the beach. There's a nice big community center with bathrooms, and, late this afternoon there were after-school child care programs in progress. The kids were enjoying this beautiful day in the playground area. Throughout the park there are several picnic areas with grills, located off the foot path that circles the large grassy area. That grassy field would be perfect for football or soccer. In fact there was a man giving soccer lessons to a kid today. No golfing or dogs off leash, however. So....I saved the best for last: The park is home to an inline roller hockey rink. I don't think I ever saw one before. Crikey, they play hockey on roller blades! I'd pay to see that. In the Midwest we played hockey on ice, but hey.... compromises must be made in order to live in SoCal paradise! The rink is even used for league matches. It has a scoreboard and even some little bleachers. Truthfully, I had to ask the guy giving the soccer lesson just what the hell that strange-looking rink was used for...... hahaha.... Parking was not easy, btw. The two parking lots are small, and were full. That's how I discovered the secret back entrance off Monterey..... What would you all do without me..... The absolute only negative thing I could say is that the concrete slides are potentially very dangerous but there is a rule posted at the top that kids must be 5 or older to slide. We loved it here!! This is a great park for children 5 and under! Everything is brand new and quite safe. The giant concrete slide is the only thing that made me nervous. It is super fun, but the kids have to climb a lot of stairs with no railings to get to the top. (There is also a long way to get to the top with no stairs). My son especially loved the 4 person teeter totter, the merry go around (nothing like we had when I was young-this one is obscenely safe), and the giant concrete slide. The park also features a ropes course, a water element for the sand, a digger, a tiny play structure with one rolling pin slide, and swings. There is a HUGE lawn for the kids to run around. The only thing missing is shade. It is very hot. The park is going to be very beautiful once the shrubs and the community garden grow in. This is a very lovely park! This is a great park for those times when the weather is nice out but not nice enough to hit the beach. It's a great place to bring a book or magazine and read under a tree on a towel, blanket or chair. There is a small playground for kids where I once brought my friend's daughter on a Friday. She enjoyed playing in the sand and interacting with the other kids while I chatted up some of the nannies. There's a short loop you can walk or jog which I had seen parents using to teach their kids how to ride bikes sans training wheels. Naturally, when one of my 30 something girlfriends announced she wanted to learn how to ride a bike we used this area to teach her to ride as well. If you come here during the weekdays you'll just see young kids with nannies, but on the weekends you'll see actual parents spending time with their own kids! That's rare these days! They can be spotted doing things such as throwing around a baseball, or playing Frisbee etc. I like to pretend that my life is like the Truman show and that Timmy, Tommy and Daddy are all hired actors placed in this park to play the roles of the perfect All American family just to amuse me. read more

This is a generally fairly quiet park that has a little, sandy playground and a fairly large play field. It's great for group get-togethers and picnics, which is why we come here fairly often. It's easy to watch your kids if they bike/skate/razor on the walk around the field. There are quite a few trees to provide shade if you need it. And I hear that the bathrooms at the community center are well maintained. Parking is very limited so you might not want to come with a very large group. There is parking on Valley and then also through a back entrance. Pay attention to the markings anf signs because they do ticket often here. There is more parking a couple blocks north on Valley around 8th St. read more

Aww, we love this park! Wish we lived closer. There's a large grassy field and tons of play options for the kiddos. My kids particularly loved all the spinning options in the playground, as well as that big slide! We brought a picnic and set up on the grass near the playground and let the kids run back and forth. My kids could have spent hours there! Now, for the cons...parking was hard. They only have a teeny, tiny lot and I ended up having to park all the way on Hernando. I recently took my 2 kids age 3.5 and 1.5 to this park on a sunny Friday morning. The park has been recently remodeled and was a fun change from our own neighborhood park - Anderson in North Redondo. (Still the best park in my opinion). This park has limited parking spots so definitely make sure to come early or plan accordingly with strollers/wagons/bikes. There is a large grassy area with a walk path. There is also the newly renovated playground. It has a new swing set which both of my kids enjoyed and it has two areas with water and sand features that were the biggest hit with my kids. A small spigot provides water at foot level by pressing on a water fountain type lever. There is sand nearby the water and a sand/water table has been left by generous parents for everyone's enjoyment. There are also two really cool concrete slides that are like 2 stories high. My 3.5 year old was scared at first to use it but after she got over her original fear she loved it and kept going on it over and over. My 1.5 year old also went down it with me holding him. Overall it was a great park and we will definitely be back. I do wish there were more benches for sitting and eating a snack and a little more shade. read more

I love this park! The new playground that has been built is just amazing. There are two water station play areas that the little guys just love! They did a great job of making activities for a broad range of ages! I run on the sidewalk that encircles the big green playing field, just an FYI... 7 laps equal a little more than a mile... it's a fun little run because there are always tons of kids and dogs to keep you entertained! read more

This is a very nice, new, park with some fantastic play structures for the kids! The only drawback I found was that the picnic tables (plus bbq griils!) were located on the other side of the grass field, opposite from the play areas. The park could also use more shaded areas, but perhaps that will happen later? The park was very clean and free of graffiti or sketchy-looking characters. We will definitely be back soon! read more

Great place for kids ages 3-10. They love to bring their scooters to scoot around the long circular sidewalk. The slides and other play area built-ins are entertaining enough for a full morning or afternoon of fun. Great picnic areas! A large grassy area for running and playing ball. My new favorite park. Reminds me of newer Cincinnati parks which are more about exploring and investigating with surprising elements than about providing standard play ground equipment. It has a rock slide, similar to those I've seen in San Francisco. It's all about outdoor play/getting dirty and exploring the elements. Which means you're best advised to bring a change of clothes for your little one. There are bathrooms in the building at the back of the park up a short flight of stairs. read more

What a cute park! I was visiting my sister and nephews a few weekends ago and they really wanted to go to South Park. I hadn't seen it since it has been remodeled and was really impressed. I can tell the landscaping is going to look really nice once all of the shrubbery is grown in. There is a foot path leading all around the park and up the hills that is paralleled by nice rock gardens and room for the plants to grow into. The play equipment is really nice and new. I especially liked the see saw which is a four seater. There are backs to the seats and they have substantial handles. It seems much safer than the original version of the play equipment. My favorite part of the park though has got to be the two cement slides that are built into the dirt hill near the playground. They are quite tall and the kids go pretty fast. It looked so fun that both my sister and I went down them just once! It's a great park to take your kids to if you live in the area! There were plenty of other children to play with, nice play equipment, tee-pees at the top of hill, and a large grassy area to play a game of catch. My only complaint is the parking. The parking lot is super small with tiny parking spots to match. My sister's SUV did not fit in the compact spots and she had to park on a side street a few blocks away so be prepared to search. read more
