I wanted to provide an update to my previous review as I have returned to counseling, but this time for a different reason. Since my last session with Patricia, I've found a new partner and wanted to ensure that our relationship started on the right track. I'm happy to say that Patricia and her team have been incredibly helpful once again. In the past, Patricia helped me grow and develop so much insight. It's hard to find a counselor who genuinely cares and is as skilled as she is. I've tried many counselors in the area, but none compare to her techniques and experience. I started counseling about a year ago feeling lonely and empty, but Patricia took me out of that dark place. While I saw a few others as well, they were not as skilled as Patricia. I cannot thank Patricia enough for helping me find myself again after my relationship trauma. She has taught me valuable skills to be strong again, and I feel empowered because of her guidance. I am immensely grateful for her help and have so much gratitude towards her. She has truly helped me discover myself after the long-term unhealthy relationship with my previous partner. I highly recommend Patricia to anyone seeking counseling services. She is compassionate, skilled, and genuinely cares about her clients' well-being. I would not recommend Patricia Chan to anyone. My family hired Patricia to provide both in person and online therapy sessions - her services were unprofessional and biased. For insight on this, as well as to how she responds to criticism, take a look at how she responds to negative reviews on Yelp. She routinely hides behind her "Board of Directors" when it comes to any complaint. She commonly responds to concerns with statements like, "all decisions are made by the board" and "I have to ask the board" - however, public records show that she's the only director. It was a struggle to obtain any kind of billing records from her and her team as they were extremely unhelpful and uncommunicative. She was, however, happy to take almost $7000 from us. My family had to obtain therapy from a different, more reputable therapist because of the trauma went through with Patricia Chan. We considered reporting her but decided we wanted to wash our hands clean of the trauma and move forward with healing instead. If you're considering her services, please do your research and find a therapist with the right credentials for your individual situation. Understanding the differences between LCSW, LMFT and PsyD will be very helpful. UPDATE: I had photos of my receipts and her business name filing showing her being the only director. Patricia Chan got my photos deleted and responded to this review (in the third person - in all other responses, she responds directly). She's also using the "this person was never a client" excuse and (passive aggressively) claiming defamation. Again, she provided therapy for members of my family - not me directly - that I paid for. There are many situations where this might happen, including but not limited to: a parent obtaining therapy for a child; a child obtaining therapy for an elderly parent; etc. But I'm not surprised she used that excuse, as that was the same excuse that was made when attempting to resolve this issue at the time of conflict. There's also a difference between defamation and sharing a negative experience regarding interactions with a business - this is my honest review of my family's experience with Patricia Chan/LiveWell Therapy. I'm happy to provide copies of my receipts and emails (me communicating directly with Chan) for anyone else having issues with this business - feel free to message me. They accepted our insurance and then charged us around $1k in "fees" when we decided to leave them. Their billing department is a nightmare, calling them to refund overcharges was a part time job when we worked with them, and this is why we decided to leave them, although we actually really liked my child's therapist Emily. They disclosed they had another client with a similar name as my child's, which led to their weekly reoccurring double charges, they couldn't get figured out. It's frustrating from our end and unethical and lack of professionalism on theirs to be so unhelpful instead of learning to fix repetitive billing issues. read more

I've been seeing a counselor here for many years, particularly since COVID, and I am finally completing my medical degree. My therapist, Patricia, has been instrumental in building my self-esteem and guiding me through various challenges, including personal losses and relationship issues. I fully give credit to her with helping me overcome many of my problems. Patricia is caring, genuine, and always has my best interests at heart. Even when she was out for a few months for medical reasons, I had no issues with the other staff members. They were professional and responsive. When Patricia returned, I eagerly requested to continue sessions with her. The other therapist I saw, Sonya during her absence was also excellent and well-trained. Upon meeting her (virtually, due to COVID), I was immediately very comfortable when speaking about some of the past issues I've been avoiding/haven't talked much about in a while. Finding a therapist is vital to our wellbeing. If you are reading this, you are probably feeling vulnerable and needing guidance from a professional. Please let me warn you to do more research before coming here. Luckily, I have. This review is based on my interaction with Dr. Patricia (the owner?). I had reached out more than a month ago to inquire about rates since the website mentioned a sliding scale. Once I mentioned that, all messages stopped. I was fine with it since I am particular with finding a good fit. She reached out again with an incredible sense of urgency a month later to offer a slot that requires immediate booking on the spot to lock in a special rate. She ignored my requests and made multiple calls when I told her I wasn't able to chat. Her approach seemed unprofessional and made me feel like a case study rather than a human being. After reading some negative reviews and the way she addressed them, my opinions are further cemented. I have no personal vendettas towards her and her business but I hope that people get the best care they possibly can and I honestly did not see the potential here. I recently returned for coaching and counseling. I had very productive sessions in the past. I started experiencing some anxiety and depression during this Covid, pandemic, state-of-emergency period. I've always been open to therapy but just never knew how or where to start looking for a pre-marital therapist; but also (and I didn't know it at the time) I wasn't really ready to make significant changes or hear the hard truths about myself . . . until a few years ago. Patricia is fantastic! I went to her for help and guidance prior to getting engaged so that I could be the best future husband my now wife could ever have . Having been previously divorced, I definitely wanted to make sure I was the best version of myself before I committed to marrying my best friend since she deserved nothing less. Wanted to learn more about what really made me tick in every aspect of my life. Patricia being of Christian faith really aligned with our core values as well. She really does work with your specific needs. She was very dedicated to helping me/us get to a better place in our relationship. She is a caring, compassionate, understanding, wise, loving and unique individual. She is very knowledgeable in her approach and makes you feel very comfortable. Not at any point did I feel we couldn't share something with her. She took the time to listen to both of us and really created a safe place to discuss issues, concerns, and solutions. She tailors the sessions towards both solo and couple sessions with your partner so you get the chance to give your perspective one-on-one, but then have sessions together with your partner. This was really beneficial, to each get our own time with her to discuss what we were feeling, but then reflect together in our couple sessions. She is also very confident in her craft, which is what drew me in, in the first place. I spoke to other therapists on the phone to set up an appt. and they did not seem to have a clue of what is going on. This is why I felt more at ease by choosing Patricia and her staff, definitely has had much more experience in this field than probably most. Whether you are having serious marital/relationship issues or just looking for some useful tools to strengthen yourself and relationship, I highly recommend meeting with her. They charge you differently from what you have agreed on. This place is a RIP-off. Do not trust this place, this place is very unprofessional. They do not do provide any services, yet they charge you. They pretend to call you and provide services, they only call for 5 minutes, and then charge you full price. Do not trust Patricia's work ethic. Do not be tricked. They did not allow me to get a refund. They over charge you. Make sure not to get tricked. They charged me almost over $4,000 for no services! It is very important for us to find someone who is unbiased, experienced and humble. And, Patricia Chen is none of that. She is the founder of Live Well and seemed to be desperate to find clients. During the 60 minutes of our first and last meeting, she proved to us that she is biased, unexperienced and narcissist. She spoke mostly about herself during that 60 minutes. She mentioned about her credentials more than 10 times. She seemed so insecure and desperate about gaining more clients that she repeatedly told us her credentials, current teaching job at USC and that she has 20 years of experience. OVER AND OVER! She charges $250 per session. I think that's with $50 discount. She even told us that she charges this couple in Pasadena $2000! She repeatedly put down therapists who graduated from less extravagant schools. She specifically mentioned that therapists who graduated from University of Phoenix charges a lot less because of school they attended. Hmm..I thought experiences mattered more. Not only she bragged so much about herself, she interrupts you when you speak. EVERYTIME! I even had to tell her that she interrupts too much. How will you ever help us if you can't listen?? She is a horrible listener. The main thing though, that forced us not to see her again was the scheduling. I informed Patricia before we met that we are only available on the weekends. She confirmed that she or other therapists will be available on Saturdays. As soon as I criticized her with constant interruptions when I speak, she told us that she is not available on Saturdays because her family comes first, and she appointed us with another therapist. Which was fine. A day after, she sends me a text, telling me that, she is now available on Saturdays. But, we were ok with seeing the other therapist. We were actually relieved that we can see other therapist, expecting maybe she will be less biased and perhaps, listens better than Patricia. So, I texted her and informed her that we would like to see the therapist she assigned to us. She texted back saying, there are no other therapist available for us and can no longer accommodate. This experience was a complete head scratcher. I have never met someone who spoke so highly of themselves. And, I don't understand how she can help others when she can't take a simple criticism or even listen to her patients. We've found a great unbiased therapist who listens well with in depth experience. Find someone who can actually listen to you and help you. Just because someone graduated from USC or UCLA doesn't mean they are the greatest being! read more
