I truly appreciated the care and effort she put into resolving this issue. She was incredibly kind, professional, and exactly the type of person I would hope to encounter when seeking support from a mental health facility. Her willingness to listen and work toward a resolution made a significant difference in my experience. Thank you so much, Lyndee. I am very grateful that you took the time to reach out and help.

Clearly shes not empathetic to new patients and much too much busy for new appointments for non-patients. I requested her specifically due to the form of therapy she does. But her receptionist, appointment scheduler just turned me away. I was referred to other 'clinical' therapists that i did not care for because they do not do the kind of therapy that Lyndee does. Lyndee's form of therapy from her website states: "Highly Sensitive Person (HSP). Empath. Do any of these words sound familiar to you? Have you ever felt or have been told that you are "too sensitive"? Maybe you have felt empathy for others on such a deep level that is hard to explain. You may feel as if you actually begin to take on the mental and emotional state of another and find yourself dealing with added anxiety, depression." Clinical Psychologist don't connect this way which was why i asked for her. But she's too booked up for new patients. So when professionals are too busy, too booked up WHY would they be open to new patients? She should perhaps CHANGE the notes in her profile that shes NOT open to new patients. She was referred by IEHP, i am only 8 min. away from her office. Her consultations dont take more than 1 hour. Yet Lyndee is too busy to squeeze in an hour of her busy schedule to take a new patient TO HELP. Perhaps her empathic ability doesn't connect to new patients that need her. Very disappointment. Yelpers, I Do Not recommend this therapist. Lyndee is too booked. RESPONSE TO LYNDEE'S RESPONSE: You told your office what to tell me. Your office didn't say what i was told. You told the lady in your office to tell me that a clinical therapist could be referred. You told your office you were too booked. Be more accountable of what you told your office what to say to me. Your reply is not full transparency or full disclosure Lyndsee. Even if you allowed me an appointment, i wouldn't even consider it now leaving blame to your office Really?

I could go on, but you probably get the point. I went into the program having never done anything like it before. It was definitely a big change from what i was used to, going from doing whatever i want whenever i wanted too to having a strict schedule and regiment for 5 weeks is a bit shocking. However, i am so so thankful that i did the program. It has helped me completely shift my life around, truly. I am now 8 months sober and so much better off than i've been in a long long time. It was the reset that i needed and I learned so much from the amazing staff!! I was there for a total of 5 weeks and I will never ever forget the people and lessons i learned along the way. I highly recommend!! (PS - I miss throwing the rugby ball with you Nicole!! Hope you and tuts are doing ok!!) - Tara

I am using a fake email and name to review this place given the sensitive nature of their services and my experience. I was admitted to Discovery around 6 months ago and was there for about a month and I'm only now feeling comfortable enough to discuss my experience. This is in reference to their Chino Hills facility adult residential program. Before going to Discovery Mood and Anxiety Program in Chino Hills I had previously attended a residential program the year prior. I had a wonderful experience at that program and they helped me tremendously, however I did not return there for my most recent round of treatment because I switched insurances and was no longer covered at that facility. I suppose I was a little naive because I assumed that since I had such a wonderful experience at that program, I could expect the same quality of care at Discovery. I couldn't have been more wrong. I'll start off with little nuanced things that made my stay uncomfortable, but could have been easily overlooked if the actual treatment component was good. I'd like to note that some of these problems may have been remedied since I was there, but this was my experience. For the first week of my stay there was no hot water and we were expected to shower every morning in the ice cold water. They advertised that dinner would be cooked and provided for us by a chef, this was not true. Either clients would be expected to make their own dinner or a counselor would scrape something together. They wake you up at 6:00 am or earlier everyday. I could have accepted all of these things if I had been receiving quality therapy. However, the groups throughout the day were not run by therapists, they were run by "counselors" who were still students and did not have their degrees. Often times it felt like they were seeing the material they were supposed to be teaching us for the first time while they were presenting it to us. I have been in therapy for years and I often found that I was more familiar with the concepts than they were. They also had random strangers come in from their other facilities to be trained. I called them the traveling circus. These counselors literally told us that this was the first group that they had ever led. This was frustrating because I felt like my treatment was being compromised so that we could be their guinea pigs. Additionally, when clients were experiencing anxiety, they would be driven to the ER and pumped full of benzodiazepines and would then return to the facility high out of their minds, it was not uncommon for someone to be passed out on the living room floor, which the staff would simply ignore. The staff was also completely untrained in deescalation techniques. We had screaming matches, women running away, women barricading themselves in their rooms, women throwing things, and the police called. When I brought up my concerns and dissatisfaction with my therapist, I was retaliated against by losing privileges. I was at Discovery for treatment for my depression and anxiety and this hellhole compounded all my issues and I left there worse off then when I began. During the month I spent there, not a single person completed the program. I, along with two other women discharged against medical advice to escape this place, and they transferred another woman out to a different facility. I'm fairly certain that this is a company first and foremost, they only care about milking your insurance for as much money as they can get, you and your mental health be damned. I implore you to avoid this company at all costs. There are good treatment facilities, but this is not one. Save yourself or your loved one the mental damage that this place will cause.

If there was a gap in us coming (due to my husband schedule) the office would call to check on us. He gave us many resources, books, shared his years of professional experience with us and we both trust him. He was so patient and when I would ask him questions he always would listen and made me feel heard even when it was difficult to hear. He always referred us to the Bible and quoted many scriptures, which was huge for us, and reminded us of what's most important. It allowed to walk and respond to the situation as God would want us to.

One of the most concerning moments was when he told me that my childhood trauma was my "perception." I shared that my mom would wake me up in the middle of the night to console her through panic attacks. I then asked him if a child being molested by a parent would also be "perception," and he said yes. He later clarified that perception doesn't mean it didn't happen--but using that word felt extremely invalidating. When I expressed that, he dismissively responded, "Okay, I just won't use that word if you don't like it." Throughout our sessions, he emphasized "self-control." When I shared that I believe control and self-control are often used to push away feelings, he immediately told me we could not work together. When I tried to explain my perspective, he shut down and refused to share his own thoughts. During that same session, he disengaged almost completely--remaining silent and appearing to stare me down. He said he didn't want to "argue," but I was simply expressing how I felt. Therapy should be a safe space to communicate openly, not one where a therapist withdraws when challenged. There was also a situation where my wife stormed out of last session because I didn't want to spend our 45 minute session going through a 50-page workbook. I preferred to do that outside of session time. Despite this, Dr. Robbins placed the blame entirely on me. And because I kept urging Dr. Robbins to look at the underlying root issues in our relationship, he acted very childishly by using that same approach in a crude way on me. My wife lost our family 500k by gambling it away in stocks and crypto. He asked how it made me feel and what trauma that was coming from. Obviously, it makes me feel like I don't matter, but I want to break the cycle of my childhood trauma where boundaries were not allowed, and I want to set boundaries with my wife. When Dr. Robbins heard that, he didn't care to respond, because his main goal was to one up me by using the root cause methods I was urging him to use. At another point, he asked, "Where do feelings come from?" I said the inner child, and he responded, "No, it comes from behavior." I am always talking to my son about feelings and emotions, and after the session I told him what Dr. Robbins said about feelings not coming from the inner child. My six-year-old son's immediate response was, "what the h*ll." Even my six-year old son is emotionally smarter than Dr. Robbins. I would not recommend working with Dr. Robbins because he uses his pain and his coping mechanisms to dictate the session. After ten sessions, we had no real improvement in our relationship.
