Before beginning any work, they checked my two fob's to make sure there wasn't an easier/less expensive fix. For reasonable price, they sold me two fob's and programmed them/cut the keys to fit my car. There was small hiccup with the fob's and they worked with me to make things right. Needed 40 keys made for our church. I gave them standard 40 blank keys. They quoted our Church $4 labor per key. Called around other places, the labor price was $2.5-$3 per key. Staff very arrogant. Would never recommend this place to anyone. read more

I needed a key made for a 2017 Dodge Caravan I just purchased so I went to Livonia Lock and Key. The tall man behind the counter said he could not make the key as Chrysler has so many difderent ignition keys its not profitable to keep them in stock. No problem, I said, Business is Business gotta make a dollar. I noticed some gun vaults and asked if he could open them, so I couls see inside. One was digital, the other manual. He was trying to open them with the combination on the price tag, but was having difficulties. A cutomer walks in the door and he leaves me there without a word. I tried to open both safes with the combinations he had with no luck. The older gentleman saw me trying to.open the gun safes and told me to "stop pkaying with them". He would be there in a minute. I'm 57 years old. When I am trying to unlock a gun safe priced at $1500, maybe he should be a little more, make that a lot more, respectful. read more

I just called to see if they could come out to my house because I am locked out. The person on the phone was extremely rude. He said he won't have anything available until later today so I asked if I could schedule something for later. He says "did you hear me? I SAID we are really busy right now". When I asked if I can get an appointment for any available opening, he audibly sighed like I was annoying him. Avoid this business. I experienced poor workmanship, and then refusal to resolve their problem. I purchased a genuine Honda key blank online from Honda and took it to Livonia Lock & Key to be cut. Livonia Lock & Key charged $35 to cut the new key, using the blank I provided. They new key does not work, and visual inspection of the two keys reveals an error in how the new key was cut. I brought both keys and the receipt back to the store within a few days. The same locksmith was on duty. He wouldn't even pickup the keys to look at them. His first explanation is that the new key was identical to the old key. The machine cuts an exact copy, so there is no difference. He's been doing it 35 years, so he knows how to cut a key. I pointed out one of the differences between the keys to him, but he wouldn't even pickup the key to look at it. Simple comparison between the two keys with a 10X loupe shows quite a few differences. Not being a locksmith, I don't know how many of these differences are critical to function, but nobody can mistake the two keys as exact copys. He then changed his story and said that it was the lock's fault. The lock had adjusted itself over time to an old key, and the lock was guilty for not accommodating itself to a new key. I couldn't believe him, so I asked him - you're saying it's the lock's fault? He said yes. I told him I deliberately paid a premium and went to a locksmith, instead of a hardware store, because I wanted the job done right. He denied any refund. My total cost is of course higher than $35, because I also bought the key blank from Honda. Of course the two different excuses cannot both be true - the new key cannot be both a perfect copy of the old key, and somehow too good and new that the guilty old lock knows the difference and won't accept it. read more

Fantastic! I got locked out of my Kia Sportage and I tried the Livonia Police Department and they could not get in my car because I guess it has some anti-theft protection on it that most cars do not have. But, Livonia Lock and Key got in my car in under 5 minutes. After they got in my car, the alarm went off but I do not have a fob to make the homking stop. These people are terrible on pricing!They charged me 8.00 each to cut my 3 key blanks.I will not visit them anymore.

This store is the definition of old school tradesmen. The owner John is incredibly knowledgeable of the industry, sales quality products and incredibly helpful. I found them about 8 years ago when I was trying to have a key cut for a fire safe that I had. Two other shops couldn't cut it for me, but they could and it worked great. I've had 3 other "odd" keys that they were able to cut for me, one from a 1915 government pad lock and they were able to match and cut it. Sure some of their lock prices are slightly higher than say Wal Mart but I much rather support a local business who actually knows their craft than a chain store.
