Although the office manager, Tim, is pleasant, my experience with Dr. Chen was not great. She was not terrible, however, she was not pleasant also. She does not give you time to speak and listen. As I was talking, she cut me off and I am not able to express myself. She lacks compassion and bedside manner. It's all down to business and no empathy. It makes a big difference when there is customer service and a smile on your doctor's face. I do understand that Dr Chen is doing her job and she is very serious in her work, but I did not feel comfortable with her. It felt like she cared more about her commitment to her craft than her patient. It would be better if she made you feel like she cared for you as a patient and as a person. If I could give no star, I would. I just don't feel that the perfect 5 star in her review is accurate. Called around for a same day appointment for a time sensitive eye issue. The front desk staff went out of their way to accommodate me and respected my concern unlike all other offices I called. Further upon my appointment, Dr. Chen impressed me beyond all means. Incredibly knowledgable and thorough and took her time to explain everything to me. I'm so happy to have found her and will be seeing her in perpetuity. Second visit update: Just when I thought I couldn't be more impressed she was even more exceptional on the second visit. I was lucky to find Dr Chen after my previous Ophthalmologist retired. I had cataract surgery in both eyes about 6 weeks apart earlier this year. Dr Chen explained everything very clearly and both procedures were performed by Dr Chen successfully at the Queens Surgical Center. Having met Dr Chen during several office visits, you quickly get the sense she is an expert in her field. I highly recommend Dr Chen to anyone looking for a very good eye doctor. read more

This review will be based on 3 experiences. I will start with my son since he was the first to go see Dr Chen. Few years ago, his school sent home a letter requiring students take a eye exam. I wasn't sure where to take him. I happened to go to Mandarin Optical on Broadway and the owner Mike recommended Dr Chen which is just down the block from him. When we came to see Dr Chen for some, she was great. She's very thorough and great with kids. Her receptionist is very professional as well. Both of them take pride in their work. The office is one of the cleanest and most organized offices I ever been to. We came back to Dr Chen again for a follow up and everything was all good. Second person I brought here was my dad. He's been having eye problems for years without seeing a ophthalmologist. He's been seeing all the wrong doctors for the wrong reasons. I finally convinced him to see Dr Chen and he was very pleased with the outcome. Long story short, my father is getting old and his eyes are starting to get shot. Last but not least, I came to see Dr Chen for myself after having discomfort in my eyes for years. I easily get dry eyes and it becomes super sore to the point it's hard to blink and then get teary eye. Dr Chen checked my eyes out, they are healthy. So it's most likely a case of allergies. I have a follow up appointment and hopefully the dry eyes goes away. Verdict - the best ophthalmologist I ever seen. read more

Dr. Chen's office in Elmhurst is accessible, clean, modern, and well equipped. The office is just a couple minute walk from the Elmhurst train stop on the M/R and is located on the first floor (no steps for the elderly!). Her office / clinic space was well appointed and comfortable while maintaining a professional demeanor. The exam rooms are spacious enough for accompanying family members. Her staff appeared courteous and efficient. I urgently visited Dr. Chen for some eye irritation. She performed a thorough examination, explained the findings and treatment, and answered all my questions patiently and extensively. She has excellent bed side manners. I highly recommend her for any and all of your eye needs. read more

A belated review! I visited Dr. Chen's office in April 2019 for my eye pain, and had a pleasant experience based on the following: 1. I had eye pain during a business trip and had to return to New York for treatment, so I didn't have enough time to make appointments in advance. After seeing my PCP in early afternoon, my PCP recommended me to see a specialist/ophthalmologist. I was so grateful that Dr. Chen was available to see me on the same day, with such a short notice. 2. Dr. Chen thoroughly explained the tests I did, the purpose and the result, which was greatly appreciated. 3. Although I was the last patient of the day, both the doctor and the front desk didn't rush me to leave. Instead, after I was done, the doctor let me sit there for another 10-15 minutes, making sure I had no problem walking (without bumping into a wall lol). 4. At first, the front desk wasn't sure if my insurance would cover everything, so I paid some, later the insurance claim was processed, and I received the refund promptly. Overall I would recommend Dr. Chen for her professionalism, knowledge and patience. read more

Dr Liwu Grace Chen is the best. She performed cataract surgery and chose exactly the right lens' for both of my eyes. She is so patient and thorough. She made sure that I understood all of my options including cost and double and triple checked all of my results in order to choose the perfect lens for me. I can read and see far with no glasses even though I didn't have the enhanced lens. I don't know how she corrected both without costly enhanced lens but she is a miracle worker. read more

Dr. Chen did work on my 86 year old mother, and she had the patience and love of her work to provide the best care. I now go to her. Her new office is calm, relaxing, and she took time to explain various procedures that she could do to help my eye sight. Most importantly she listened. I felt welcomed. Dr. Chen is an excellent surgeon who I would highly recommend to my loved ones. In addition to having 20/20 vision with no complications, my mom had a great experience in her office with friendly and helpful staff. The surgery center where she had the surgeries made sure that she was ready for the procedure, gave her a free ride to and from her home, and they called to check on her progress afterwards. My mom was hesitant to have the procedures for years but Dr. Chen and her team put her at ease. read more
