They set up an appointment and came out and within a half hour it was running. They don't oversell you on what's wrong. Very happy with how the install went and how they explained how to operate our new door and any other questions etc. *** Follow up, five years after installing the garage door we had some issues. They promptly came and repaired all of the broken part. We fully expected to pay several hundred dollars to get "back on track." This is the third set of garage doors installed by them. It was installed about 3 months ago and it needed a minor adjustment. I called the office and scheduled the appointment. Mike arrived and in 5 minutes he was done with the adjustment. We purchased top of the line door opener and thick doors with plenty of insulation. We are very happy. 2 other sets were installed in our other house and they have been working for over 10 years already without any issues. When the job was complete he says he already credited it off the the bill but never wrote it down or said anything to me. Called and set up and appointment for Tuesday 8:30AM asking to do new seals on both garage doors and want him to look at one of the automatic door openers. Man on the phone went over cost, all was good. Day of appointment older guy shows up 30 minutes late, no big deal I understand appointments can run a little longer. I show him the garage doors and he says he will have to order rubber. Thought it was weird as that's why I made the appointment and reason for call. Then I show him the motor and he says it's cheap and the bulbs caused it not to work without trying to run the motor or anything. I hit the button for the door to show him it was still working just off the track. He says it needs to be replaced without looking at anything else. So as I'm thinking if I want to replace it (couldn't be more than 10-20 seconds) he says hurry up I have other appointments. This from the same guy that was late to mine. At this point I tell him I'm all set with them and don't want to do any work further with the company and explain I'm frustrated because I now have to pay a $95 service fee I think it was for a job on the seals that was known about before and they didn't come prepared to do. He left saying not to call them again. Was evident with his assessment and when he said "hurry up I have more appointments" that he had no intention of replacing the seals or truly diagnosing the issue. For what it is worth I did not pay the service fee. I have never written a negative review for anything. I completely understand that things happen sometimes that don't go as planned. Ken: I have removed my original review since the rude and ever defensive Lizzie's Garage Doors has threatened to sue me over my complaint on Yelp that they refused to provide warranty work on my garage door after installation. I don't think it is worthwhile to go to court with these awful people over $125 to fix the problem. I found a respectable company, Fimbel, that told me there were 3 easy fixes for the problem and that they were happy to try all 3 if needed; the first worked. After seeing how pleasant and easy to work with they were, I decided to do other work with them, and am pleased. I totally wish I had read these reviews prior to contacting this company. I experienced the same level of rudeness, unprofessionalism and unwillingness to please the customer that many of the other reviewers had. This company (owner) misquoted the price for the type of springs that we needed replaced and then blamed me, accusing me of not giving him enough information. It seems as if there are only a couple of types of springs, so he could have quoted the range of pricing to me. He was so rude and disrespectful when I asked if we could come to a compromise. I would not be writing this review if he had only been NICE! I would not have minded in the least, to pay full price (which I did anyway) had he treated me in a civil manner and apologized for his misquote. The shop manager, Mike F that actually did the work, was fabulous the way he handled me and the situation, knowing how unhappy I was. The owner could not have been more offensive and insulting. It's almost like I never backed into my garage door! Drove into it as the door was coming back down (clicked door opener again, was rushing to appt) yesterday morning. Our garage door recently malfunctioned, so I called Lizzie's and made an appointment to have it fixed. One of the owners came out the next day, took a quick look, and said "I can't do anything for you." I was so startled by that response that I asked him to repeat what he had said and he said that the door was not properly installed and that there was no way to fix the problem. Before I could ask why the problem couldn't be fixed he was already walking away. It wasn't until he pulled out of tmy driveway that I noticed the sign on the door saying that it was installed by Lizzie's Garage Doors! One of their competitors came over and just fixed the problem for a very small fee. I wish I had read all of the bad reviews for this business on Yelp before calling them! read more

I called to inquire about an exterior keypad being installed for our 3 garage doors (which we also purchased from them as well) and was told that they would call me to set up an appointment. When it came time to replace my garage doors, I decided to call a local company, Lizzys. Brad came out within two hours of me calling and sold me a pair of doors for $3200. The price seemed reasonable, so I was happy. I then found out that this this price did not include new motors. When I called Brad to ask about this, he was incredibly rude to me on the phone, telling me that I should have known this because it was written on the paper, even though it wasn't. When Brad came out to install the doors, he immediately told me he needed to charge me another $250 to reuse my existing motors. I told him to pack his stuff and get off my job as he was screaming at me in my own house with my children upstairs. He told me he wasn't going to refund my $1000 deductible and I agreed to pay him the $250 and let him install the doors. At the end of the day, the doors were installed properly and they look nice. I have eight other income properties that all need garage doors, and regardless of the fact that these doors were installed properly, I would rather have anybody else in the world install doors at my house then Brad from Lizzy's garage door. I have been in the construction industry for 15 years and I've never thrown a contractor off of a job before, much less at my own house. I was expecting excellent service from a local company, but without a doubt, next time I will go back to using Eastern Garage door in Lawrence. The frustrating part for me is that if Brad just didn't try and nickel and dime me and was polite, I would have recommended him 100 times over and got him much more work. I even told him that I have a neighbor looking to get garage doors this week, and his words were "I don't care, I don't need the work". DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! Never have we ever encountered such poor, disgusting customer service than with Lizzie's Garage Doors. We had doors installed by them, doors were fine but when it came time for services/repairs, its been a completely awful experience. A couple months ago we needed to have the bottom rubber and metal strip replaced. The phone call alone to the office was painful. The woman who handles the calls was beyond extremely rude, argumentative, didn't listen and has no concept of proper customer service. Instead of just scheduling time for repair to be done, she argued that we had not had them serviced and continued to lecture and berate us. We had the repair done, which was fine but now two months later(after having the doors for 10 years before any issues) the replaced part came off again. Same situation occurred when we called, she wouldn't listen, talked over me, was extremely rude, had to repeat myself over and over. Then she called back few minutes later asking same info because she didn't write it all down. Calls back again to say they would be out next day as long as nobody else had a door emergency. I explained that we cannot close our door due to the metal strip being bent so badly and she didn't seem to care and said, 'would get there when we could", She then kept saying that we needed springs replaced and it was told to us during last service, told her no such thing occurred, doors were checked and were all in good working order. She continued to argue over and over, finally asked her, 'do you want our business or not?". She said "fine" and abruptly hung up. Guy comes today (believe he is owner), looks at it and says has to order part, not sure how much it will cost. I tpld him we were not paying for the repair as its only been two months and it should not have come off again that soon. He said absolutely not, you are paying for it or I am not doing the work. I explained again that its only been two months, how is that possible it breaks already and that we absolutely were not paying. He said yes you are and I told him to leave as we would find another company to fix it. How they are in business this long and after all these other negative review, is beyond belief. They have no customer service skills and should not be in business if this is how they treat their customers. We cannot stress enough that you should not call this company. We have since called Fimbel Doors and they are coming out same day to fix and may not even charge. That's excellent service. read more

Had two doors installed and connected to my existing openers. Brad promptly came out and provided an estimate and left some literature. We ordered the doors and arranged installation for a following Saturday (~ 3 weeks later). Ryan arrived early Sat morning and spent the day taking down the old doors and fixing the openers. The openers weren't installed properly (by previous installer/owner) and he had to re-mount using new hardware (taking down the old hardware/brackets). He also re-wired the openers and made sure the sensors were working properly. He was quite knowledgeable and spent time explaining how everything worked and the required maintenance. Our installation was a bit more complicated than a normal job and Ryan was up for the challenge. read more

My garage door opener was sticking in the down position so owner (Al) came out and charged me $320 to fix (about 45 min of labor). After he left, the garage door continued to have the same problem. I called back and was quoted another $450 to come back and attempt to fix the problem. So almost $800 to fix a sticky garage door opener. And for that amount the fix was not guaranteed. Shame on me for getting taken for $320 but I was not going to get taken for another $450, so I bought a new garage door opener from home depot for $200 and spent 3 hours of time replacing the old one. I can now open my garage door with my iphone:) Really not happy with the service and ridiculous charges. In addition, the lady who answers the phone is one of the rudest people I have ever talked with. Why have a customer facing position if you obviously cannot stand talking to customers? Hi, We called Lizzie garage as the door was not working. Mike said he has to replace a part and charged $175. When I researched online after he installed it, the part was only $25. They are total rip off. He says that was their price. For labor $85 + $25 (part) it should be 110 + any extra if they want to make up for the part, but charging $$90 for a $25 part is a rip off. My experience with Lizzie's Garage Doors can be summed up with one word: sad. Just as other reviewers have mentioned on other review sites, this family-run business is run by a very rude, mean family. The seem to harbor a lot of hostility and resentment toward their customers. I'm sure they've been treated poorly at one time or another by a customer, but there's no justification for their approach to customer service. We had a nice Clopay garage door installed back in July of 2011. The installer they sent out (who was surprisingly soft-spoken and kind) unfortunately did a terrible job on the installation. The door was crooked and not even centered in the opening. When I called Brad (the co-owner) to politely discuss it, he explained (rather defensively) to me that the problem was with our floor and opening not being level and square. That sounded reasonable, so I hesitantly accepted it before going out to the garage to test that explanation with a measuring tape and level. Upon measuring, I found that our floor and opening were level and square - not perfect, but the bubble rested within the center and not off enough to justify the 4-degree angle on our garage door. The vertical door tracks consistently slanted to one side and the door wasn't level at all. I was able to slip my fingers under one side of the door when shut and not at all on the other. I believe the installer "eye-balled" his work. Still, I wanted to get other opinions before going back to Brad. Our siding contractor and an architect also agreed that the installation wasn't right. I sent a polite email to Brad expressing our doubt that the installation was correct, and he immediately fired back an email to "fire" our contractor and architect. My husband gave him a call and Brad was very rude and rather threatening, cutting him off and talking over him. A series of emails and photos ensued, with Brad and me going back and forth. I have YouTube videos and Flickr photos demonstrating our installation problems, and Brad continued to insist he was right. All I was asking was for him to come out and take a look, since he hadn't even seen it in person. Finally, I gave up and called another local garage door installer. This professional man came out, verified that it was a shoddy installation, and fixed our problem in less than an hour for $40! I am so glad I will never have to deal with Lizzie's Garage Doors again. They are rude, mean, unprofessional and hostile. If you you're a masochist and enjoy being treated like dirt, by all means, give them a call. Otherwise, do yourself a favor and stay FAR AWAY. read more

If you have an issue with their work, Brad immediately denies it could possibly be their responsibility and then goes on the offensive. We had a disagreement about the quote/price. Rather than speak about it professionally the owner (Al) laughed in my 38 week pregnant wife's face and told her she was wrong. When I called the office to speak to Virginia Lizzie she immediately started screaming at me and said "she's been doing this for 43 years and the customer is often wrong and doesn't listen". Called this morning because the garage door remote died over the weekend. The man I spoke with was nice. When I asked him when they could get out here to remedy the problem, he said "late this afternoon". Perfect. Mike called about 30 mins. before to let me know he was on his way. It took him 5 minutes to program a new remote. He also fixed a hanging weatherstrip and answered all of my questions; he was very nice. I will definitely do business with Lizzie's again. read more

Worst service. Garage door originally installed by Lizzie's 14 years ago. If a new opener is needed, I would agree to that instantly. Door wasn't working properly, so I called Lizzie's, since their name was on the door. Al (the owner) came out and installed a new board. $310.00 That helped for a while, but the door still hasn't been closing properly. Finally called to schedule service. Virginia (who answers phone) is very rude and dismissive. Seems she knows ALL ABOUT the problem. NOT. Called again and scheduled for Al to come out. He spent 20 minutes, installed new sensors. $160.00. Still not working properly. I read the reviews afterward. Wish I'd read sooner. The other reviews are very accurate. They are rude people. Just spoke with our next-door neighbor and he laughed when I mentioned Lizzie's and confirmed how rude they are, and poor work. I won't have them again! read more

I contacted Lizzie's Garage door to come fix a garage door opener that was malfunctioning, the door would open only partially. Mr Lizzie came and quickly came to the conclusion that I needed a new mother board, which turned out not to work, followed by a recommendation to replace the entire motor ($400). He scheduled to come back the next day with the new motor to install. After he left, I put back the old "defective" motherboard back into place and pulled out the user manual. The manual recommended to follow 3 simple steps to realign the door "up" and "down" positions. The garage door opener was miraculously fixed! I believe Mr Lizzie misled me and led me to believe that a whole new garage door opener was required to fix my problem. He charged me $95 for the service call, which I paid BEFORE I put back the old part back together and realizing the garage door opener wasn't in fact broken and only required a simple adjustment. I called and spoke to his assistant Virginia and him, both were rude, refused to listen, and maintained that I had not been misled. When I told them I'd get the Better business bureau involved, Virginia threatened to take ME to court! I asked for a refund for being charged for a service that wasn't provided. They both refused. Rude and a rip off. My garage door was malfunctioning. On a Friday I called to book an appointment and was told someone would call me Sunday night to let me know what time a repair person would be by on Monday. No call Sunday night so I called Monday morning. I was told someone would call me back in 15 minutes. 90 minutes later, no call, so I called again. I was told the person was not in the areas might be able to come in the afternoon. When the person showed up he got out of his truck and wagged his finger in my face and told me "All you need is one call, and if you keep calling you won't get any service!". I explained my husband was handicapped and I needed to have an estimated time to be sure I could be available to explain the problem. He just repeated the same statement back to me. I should have sent him away right then, but I let him look at the problem. After being told on the phone prior that all I needed were new sensors with a price quote of $160; he told me that I needed a whole new system for $395. Again, dumb move on my part, I let him install it. One day later, I had the same problem all over again. Amazingly my daughter discovered the real problem which required two staples to hold some wires in place. Did I really need the new system? I am guessing not since the same problem occurred after the $395 installation. I am an 80 year old woman with a handicapped husband. Don't make the same mistake I did. read more
