I don't think that I have ever had Boston butt/pork shoulder with a pink smoke ring this expansive. Kudos to the pit master manning the smoker. This is the best BBQ pork that I've eaten at a restaurant, succulent, delicate, smokey, flavorful, esthetically appealing, and it makes me wish that we had something like this in the Atlanta area. I love fried okra, when it's cooked properly, and with that comes critical feedback; their version reminds me of how my grandmother made her fried okra (and that's the standard I use to measure all others by.) The mixed greens had a slight hint of smoky ham hock, probably could have benefitted from a little more salt, but I understand that some people have to watch their sodium intake so I bet the restaurant leaves that up to the customer. Our server was a delight, very smiley and cheery, welcoming, etc. Inside, it feels like they have preserved history and married it to classy modernity. The next time I visit Albertville, this will be on the to-do list. Keep up the good work, folks! read more

The food was great, and the ambience a bit different from your normal barbecue place. They had other things on the menu besides barbecue, but the barbecue was definitely the feature act. One piece of advice, is avoid the baked beans. They're a bit overly sweet. And to me baked beans should have some bacon in them or something like that. These disappointed a bit. But the barbecue is phenomenal. And to be honest, the thing that really stole the show was at noon they play the national anthem and everybody stands to face the flag, I love the patriotic atmosphere and you can tell that this place is run by people who care. Local Joe's is definitely a great option for a meal. The service here is friendly and professional. The restaurant itself has a pleasant enough vibe. It is a bit dated, but I found that to be comfortable. I went with the two meat meal and chose pork and sausage. For my sides, I went with baked beans and onion rings. We also had fried pickles for an appetizer. I found the food to be good. Definitely enjoyable and a good sized portion. I also thought it was cool that at noon, everyone stood and the National Anthem was played. I would definitely recommend Local Joe's. read more

What a great surprise! Had them for the first time at as catering and they were excellent! Chicken strips were tender, and tasty, unlike any I have ever had. The pulled pork reminded me of Hawaiian style Kailua pork or something down that road which is amazing to me, as I haven't had Hawaiian style pork in years. Forgive me if I'm completely wrong on the flavor, but I've had pulled pork before and the favor shows that they really took the time to make themselves stand out above the rest, instead of just filling plates, which I appreciate! The Mac and cheese knocked it out of the park! Didn't visit the restaurant so I cannot describe the ambiance, but I have driven by it, and it seems inviting from the outside. I give the place a star for the outstanding service and a star for the queso and warm pimento cheese, but that's about it. Our Chips were stale, I ordered catfish which has a distinct smell and taste and this was definitely some sponge like white fish and the rib sandwich was flavorless, it tasted roasted at best not bbq'd but the pickles on it were delicious. The restaurant is very clean and nice. The staff are very pleasant and helpful. They had a few signs that say "We stand for the national anthem" and I didn't think too much about it. We sat and got our drinks ordered and the national anthem started playing and every man woman and child stood and faced the flag and put their hands over their hearts for the duration and I LOVE IT! First time here. Impressed with the decor and cleanliness. First rate service. We got the fried dill pickles to start -- it was enough for 4 people. Piping hot and crispy. We each had the small pork BBQ sandwich . We were both impressed with the amount of meat - chunky chunks with a nice smoke ring - and that it came on a lightly buttered and grilled bun. So many times you get good meat but the bun is cold and straight out of the bag. The meat was nicely warm as well. The BBQ sauce was just the right tangy/ sweet mix. VERY GOOD! I Hubby got the fries and they were the good kind - slender and crispy - a step above just plain old fries. I got the loaded baked potato salad -- excellent. Made with sour cream and Mayo I think. We decided to try this place during a street festival in Albertville. My wife got the BBQ sandwich, which was outstanding, and I decided to try the Turkey Reuben, which was okay. The fries and onion rings were very good, and the sweet tea was wonderful. We were there during lunch when they played the National Anthem, which was very inspiring until the end, when an elderly customer started yelling at the top of his lungs about getting rid of the current President, which ruined the mood in the restaurant for a little bit. Overall, a good experience with the food, and we'll probably be back for the BBQ sandwich and sweet tea. read more

It was our first time eating here yesterday. I don't even know where to start. When we first walked in, it felt at home. It is so nice and clean in there and I love that they have different things for sale (pickles, different flavored pork rinds (and boy are they fresh!!!), pepper jelly and so much more)! We were greeted with a smile and shown to our table. The owners dad brought us a sample of the smoked turkey. Let me tell you!!!!! Besides the deep fried turkey my husband makes, that was the best turkey I ever put in my belly!!!! It was moist, flavorful and just fantastic! I ordered the smoke chicken, mac and cheese and fries. Then I ordered a side of brown gravy to dip my fries in! My son ordered the cheeseburger, fries and mac and cheese. Ee got the fries pickles for an appetizer. The fries pickles were AH-MAZ-ING!!! The seasoning was just right and they were hot and fresh! My smoked chicken was fresh, hot and REALLY yummy! My son said his cheeseburger was amazing as well. The fries were also hot, fresh and very good! I really enjoyed the brown gravy as well! It had a wonderful taste to it. The mac and cheese was okay, I probably wouldn't order it again. But everything else was SO DELICIOUS!!! The bathrooms were very neat, clean and decorated so pretty! Our server was very kind and well attentive (I wish I could remember his name). We felt at home the whole time we were there! We actually had a two hour lunch because we got caught up in conversation with the server and the owners dad (what a delight they were)!!! NATIONAL ANTHEM The first time we came here we thought it was just really good BBQ....BUT we were moved when at 6pm everything stopped in the restaurant while we were directed to the American flag up front and directed in the singing of the national anthem. It brought a tear to our eyes. Do NOT order the rib sandwich! Made me deathly ill. It was really just very charred burnt ends on a bun, hard to describe the taste but it was baaad. Had to sleep it off. Another warning - do NOT order plain ice water. Albertville municipal water has mire chlorine in it than H2O. Truly stomach turning, so chemically it actually burned my eyes! Pretty good for Sand Mountain bbq. There has always been a difference between Sand Mountain bbq and Central Alabama BBQ. This is by far more of a mix of the two with more North Alabama in it. I had a large pork sandwich. The pork itself is ok. Doesn't have a smoke taste at all. It's done over wood ( Saw a wood pile as I left). It was done well, just not a big taste. Kind of bland. Small amount for a large sandwich, maybe 2 to 2 1/2oz. Didn't quite cover the bun. Look like the perfect amount for a small bun but not the large. Come with 2 regular hamburger Dill chips, that don't really add to sandwich, and some thin sauce. TIP: order without sauce. It is thin and goes straight to the bun. Sauce is on the table. Add your own. Sauce is a thin vinager type. Fairly tasty. Not spicy at all, actually could stand a little more bite and some Black Pepper. Tabasco is available on the table along with a white sauce. I love white sauce on chicken but I had a couple of bites on some of the leftover bun. Nice taste. Quite a bit different than most alabama white sauce. No black pepper ( needs some), mild vinegar and heavy mayo taste. Not very thick but could almost be a ranch sauce. Service very good. Super A plus. Seated quickly. Server at table for drink order fast. Food within 5 mins of ordering. Owner?? Came by table twice asking if I was satisfied. Refills right on time and a Togo cup. Great job. Bottom line: This is a must try. I want to come back. Menu looked great. I've got to try the wings. Look forward to a return. read more
