Very convenient to have and a great mode of transportation. The views you get from the boat of the lake and all of Como and it's surrounding cities is beautiful. Whether your are taking the boat to a destination or just for a ride on a Sunday afternoon it is definitely worth it. I have been countless times and Everytime is just as breath taking. The staff on board are very friendly and even allowed me to use his sailor hat for a picture. Be advised that these boats do fill up very quickly and can get quite crowded. We followed the schedule he outlined and has a great visit with the least hassle. The weather was unfavorable, this being November, but he had no control over that. I want to share the info for travelers visiting in fall & winter to plan a beautiful self-guided day tour at a very reasonable rate. On a rainy day with overcast gray sky we took the red M1 Milan Metro to Milano Nord Cadorna train station to catch a morning train for the 1 hour multi-stops ride to the Lago Como Station. We had contacted the very helpful and responsive Lake Como ferry website (info@navigaziionelaghi.it) prior to our trip and learned that on a November Saturday (low season) the first FAST boat to Bellagio would be at 12:25 pm and Como Lago station is only a 5-minute walk from the ferry dock at Piazza Cavour. With ample time to spare before ferry, we toured the Como Cathedral on way to the ferry ticket office right across the street from the Hotel Metropole Swiss. The ferry ride was smooth. It made several stops at towns along the way before reaching Bellagio. Due to low season, rain and closure of the main attraction, there's not much to do in town aside from strolling and relaxing at cafes. After an hour we took a boat to Varenna (this one carries both cars and passengers)15 min.away. Varenna ferry pier is at Piazza Martiri della Liberta. Again, due of rain, late afternoon timing, and uncertainty if attractions were open, we just strolled around a bit and had dinner at one of the restaurants south of the ferry pier. The pier is just 10 min walk from the Esino Lario train station where we caught a late train to Milano Centrale then transferred to a southbound yellow M3 metro, 2 stops to Milan Duomo. We're glad we came. Although the weather was gloomy the villages were quaint and peaceful. We could picture how wonderful it must be on a nice sunny day. The whole self-guided Lake Como ferry tour cost about €20 per person.

As it was, we had to run between tracks at Milano Centrale to catch our regional connection, and just barely made it before the doors closed and it took off.) My chief complaint about this hotel is the lack of clear directions on how one finds the entrance. And look, it may have been sheer exhaustion or our vacation brains leading us to get lost - for several minutes - once we arrived, but I couldn't find anything on the airport's site, Marriott's site, or the map to pinpoint where, exactly, one entered the hotel. (For those curious, if you're taking the train in, make a left before you hit the big glass tunnel, you can't miss the doors and the sign. My husband mis-understood the instructions and led us on a merry (but not really "merry") chase through the car rental area before realizing we'd done a big ole donut and that we'd need help. Americans, amirite?!) The staff was friendly and helpful, which I've come to expect from Marriott employees the world over. The lobby was big and beautiful, and felt calm and welcoming - something I'm absolutely certain was planned because travel can be so stressful. My next observation is about the size of the hotel. It's not a complaint, more of a "whoo, didn't expect *that*!" because our room was up, over, sideways, into, out of, above and under. I kid you not, it took us almost 10 minutes to walk from the elevators to our room. My Bonvoy account is set up to request "room away from elevators" and did they ever deliver on that! It took us so long to get to our room that zero part of me wanted to leave it again until it was time to head to our gate. (But of course, the man needed dinner.) The room itself was spacious and comfortable, and the bed was just as cozy as I'd hoped. We got a good night's sleep, even though we got to bed late and had to wake up early for our flight. Was it an extravagance, booking a different hotel? Probably. Did it make a world of difference in our final day of travel? Absolutely. And I wouldn't have changed a thing.

The only problem is the pillow in the bag on top of the closet was filthy with black mocks thank God I had two pillowcases so I took one of the pillowcases off that was all dirty and it was the second pillowcase. I guess they don't check those. They have a billiard room downstairs but there's a conference table in it no pool table there's also a café or lunch coffee or breakfast place downstairs it's a buffet you pay. It's not free because $10 for the buffet. All I got was coffee charged at the room and came back up. The problem was we only had one key my wife was in the bathroom so I couldn't take the key out because the lights would go out so make sure you get two keys.

The check-in process was fast, and the staff at the front was super friendly. The vibe of this hostel is amazing. I love the whole setup, and it's conveniently located in the central area for shopping, eating/ coffee shops, and boat tours. The hostel's outdoor bar/patio area is excellent for hanging out with friends and people-watching. The staff offers food and good selections of drinks during your stay for purchase. (The bar is open 24/7!). I booked a six-bedroom dorm style for females only, and the whole dorm was clean; the beds were sturdy and beautifully painted with bright yellow color. The view from my dorm overlooked the other outdoor patio area--it would be a great spot to chill in hammocks and chairs if the weather was nice (during my stay, the weather was rainy/gloomy). Since I came during the weekend, there was an event at this hostel every night, which allowed me to interact with other groups or solo travelers from all over Europe who were also in Lake Como for a weekend getaway. We needed a place to store our bags until our AirBnB check-in, and we wanted to explore Como town unencumbered. Ostello Bello is just a short walk from the train and was easy to get to. I can really only speak to my experience in the lobby and my interactions with the staff, but the vibes upon walking in were really great - good tunes and lively atmosphere. Our bags were quickly checked in and secured, and we were on our way! It was just as easy to collect them a few hours later. The staff also went above and beyond in helping us arrange a taxi to our AirBnB. I can't say enough about how lovely and helpful they were! Although this is a hostel, you can book a private room at a very affordable rate. I would definitely recommend this place as an option for young people traveling on a budget or looking to make some new friends. It seemed like there were lots of activities for people looking to socialize. The location of the hostel is also great, close to transportation as well as a market right next door. I would definitely use the luggage storage service again and maybe next time stay for a drink at the bar!
