What a fantastic find! The bar is cool with vintage tin ceilings and Art Deco, which provided a homey, lived in feel that is both comfortable and relaxing. I don't say this often, but Loch & Quay has a great vibe. I sat at the bar and Nicole G. took care of me by crafting a perfect Hendrick's Gin martini. Soon after, I dined on their Cottage Pie: potatoes, Guinness broth, cheese, scallions, corn, and celery, and great seasoning in the tender meat. It was fun. Great place! Come on a day that starts with "T" and you get to eat some tacos. I had the shrimp tacos done Cajun way with corn tortilla. Dang! They were awesome! We have not been for quite awhile. We had just finished a wonderful historic event held at both the Schuyler Mansion in Albany and the Crailo historic site in Rensselaer (go to these places. Waited for 15 minutes sitting at the bar, while one bartender cut limes in front of us and didn't look up once to take our order or even tell us he'd be with us shortly. We decided to leave. The best thing about this restaurant is its clever name. It aspires to be an English/Scottish pub, but it falls short in the ambience department. It's pretty much like every otter gastropub I've been to. The service was tremendously slow. It took about an hour to get our drinks when there was only one other couple in the place, and then the food came probably 45 minutes after that. There was only one person working, sadly. I'm not sure if this is an oversight by management or this is customary for the restaurant. I had the $18 smashburger, which I felt was overpriced. Some friends had other things that were extremely adequate in taste, but nothing special. It evidently has a wonderful selection of bourbons, so if you like bourbon, and you're not in a hurry, you could give it a try. read more

My wife and I were in town for the Northeast Home show on February 6th. It was freezing and we were hungry so I jumped on yelp and this restaurant popped up. When we walked in we were immediately greeted by Jordan who was very personable. There were a couple regulars at the bar and we were the only people being seated. Ate here last week with friends and it was a mostly good experience. It's got a lot of British/Scottish pub fare on the menu and well stocked bar. The biggest issue though was that there was only on guy working. He was fantastically personable, and good natured, but one person can only do so much. It took ages to get our drinks and even longer to get the food, and when it came out it was clear some of it had probably been sitting for awhile. That said, the cottage pie was pretty good, and for $20 it should be. Since we weren't in a hurry, it ended up being okay, but I wouldn't go back unless I had plenty of time to spare. read more

At my wife's suggestion we visited Loch & Quay (pronounced Lock & Key) on Fri 4/04/2025. This pub is on Broadway in downtown Albany. We went at 5:30pm because usually this area is busy. But to our surprise we found a free (no feeding the meters after 5pm) on street parking right in front - Nice! Found seats at the bar, about 10 people there. Bartender Nicole G got us our Happy Hour drinks, Pinot Grigio ($5) & Kilkenny draft ($6) and we had 2nds with our dinners. Wife had the Mediterranean lemon chicken chickpea salad - fresh & large ($18). I had the battered cod sandwich w/slaw & mac salad side ($16). Both were very good, just the right dinner we were after. Got kinda quiet after 6pm. A table of three were also there. Very nice experience. I would think that as the weather improves more people will enjoy their outdoor area. Good first impression. Visited while in Albany for a business. It was near our hotel and had good reviews so we decided to check it out, and we were glad we stopped by! The place had a fun bar vibe, with a big old wood bar. The staff was friendly. The menu had a variety of sandwiches, paninis, and other typical bar food. We wanted an appetizer and were having a hard time deciding between spinach artichoke dip and buffalo chicken wing dip, but I loved that they had an option where you could get a half order of each so we didn't have to choose! I was going back and forth but ended up choosing the chicken pesto panini and I was happy I did, it had good flavor. My husband had seen the cottage pie on the menu when looking online and had his heart set on it. He was happy at his choice, and it definitely looked hearty. The food was delicious, it all came quickly, the restaurant was pretty cool, and you could even see the cooks in the kitchen through the door making your food. We all had a pretty great experience and enjoyed our time there even though it was short. I would definitely recommend that anyone come here if they need somewhere to go for a quick bite, whether because they're waiting for a train, on a lunch break, or relaxing with friends/family. This place is tiny but very quaint! Lots of alcohol too! There was one server for the whole place so it takes awhile to get your food. Otherwise, she was super friendly. The sandwiches were delicious! They were not heavy. We ordered the macaroni salad as our side and it was soooo good. I'm not a Big Mac salad fine but this was perfect. This is a great spot to get a beer and some great architectural views. The food isn't that good. I started with French onion soup and my wife started with corn chowder. Both ice cold, and I was even warned it would be too hot because it just came out of the oven!! I can't believe I hadn't been to Loch & Quay before! My wife and I came in at lunch on a Saturday before going to an event at the nearby MVP Arena. We sat at the bar and talked to the very friendly bartender/server. She recommended The George burger to me, which I promptly ordered and it was a great recommendation. It was a perfectly messy burger - I'll be honest, I switched to a fork and knife after a few bites - and it came with a pickle spear and bag of chips. Their beer menu is pretty impressive, especially if you count their can list alongside of it. We didn't try their cocktails, but I was definitely tempted by their Betty White Russian (R.I.P.). It isn't a large space so I can imagine it might get a bit crowded and hard to find a seat during busier times, but I enjoyed it when it was a bit quieter. We'll definitely be back soon! read more

We ordered spinach and artichoke dip for an appetizer and it was almost surprisingly good. It hyped up our expectations for dinner. My husband did get his French dip but when it came, it was just a roast beef sandwich. The aus ju was not the real deal either. My turkey panini was fine, nothing outstanding. Also wondering why an Irish pub doesn't offer fish and chips? In fact there are no "chips" (fries) on the menu at all. One of the best pubs I've been to in a long time! Sara took very good care of us and makes excellent drinks. My family ordered burgers and the homemade pasta salad. The salad is definitely made in house, it's fantastic and you could make a meal out of it. The guys loved their burgers and then they set their sites on my turkey/bacon panini. Half of the panini and the pasta salad were enough for me. Service was excellent, prices were reasonable, Sara, the bartender, was friendly and welcoming, plus offered recommendations for food. I stopped by for a late lunch while driving through Albany. This was one of the few restaurants open around lunchtime with 5+ tables for outdoor seating. My server was very friendly and accommodating. I got quick water refills and was able to pick my table. Unfortunately, however, there was a lot of construction outside and I was seated near a sewer so it wasn't the most pleasant experience. My chopped salad was also underwhelming. My favorite thing about Loch & Quay is the patio directly across the street from the prettiest building in Albany: The former D&H train station, current SUNY building. The inside is nice too, a laid back 60s vibe, but on a nice day, with that view, the patio is definitely the place to be! The menu is pretty small, but there seems to be something for everyone. They have the Beyond burger for those of us who prefer a plant-based life, and it was honestly my favorite preparation of the Beyond I've had so far. I was asked what temperature I wanted it cooked, which really threw me because it's plants, but get it Medium, you won't regret it. The beer list is nice, and constantly rotating. I prefer a good draught, but the can selection here is a bit more fun and eclectic. Every bar tender I've interacted with has been attentive and funny, which definitely adds to the experience. Be prepared for it to be a bit pricey, but all-in-all Loch & Quay is worth it IMO. read more

Small menu but great food. Great tap list. Bar and building is so nice, as is the staff and the chef. I ate here 4 times before posting this review and Everything I have gotten has tasted really great. It is a little pricey for what you get in both the food and drink menu but the sandwiches are filling and the mac salad is excellent. Check our the specials and pictures of the food on Instagram. Pay attention to the specials - because the shrimp po boy I had the week of Mardi Gras was amazing and the shrimp soft tacos (another special) were great.
